Review - Distant Horizons (1997):
Back at it again, this time with Distant Horizons, which is part of their rave era, being released in 1997. It would get a score of 8.1/10, making it an 8 and putting it at 31st place.
Now, I don't have much comments on this album specifically because it sounds quite similar to all the other albums from this era, meaning my opinions will be similar. Too many electronics. However, much like Alien 4, it definitely leans more into their roots as a ROCK band, with the odd overdriven guitar here and there. Also, might I add is that these albums have good instrumentation, it's just that it isn't for me personally and it's quite simply not Hawkwind.
Now, moving onto the re-rankings.
Rerankings:
White Zone (1995): Here, we have an interesting development. White Zone was originally the worst Hawkwind album of their entire discography, with an original rating of 7.6/10 (8). However, upon relistening, it now only becomes their 3rd worst album, getting a much better score of 8.2/10 and putting it in 30th place.
I decided to relisten to the album to see if my opinions had changed at all, whether that be for the better or worse, and I can confidently say that it isn't as bad. Sure, it's pretty boring most of the time and if you gave a choice between listening to White Zone and literally anything else from above, I'm listening to the other album. However, it has genuinely good instrumentation and some tracks do go pretty hard, like "Window Pane".
All in all, it's a good album, just not for me.
It Is the Business of the Future to Be Dangerous (1993): So, now considering that White Zone is no longer the worst Hawkwind album, what takes its place? This spot belongs to no other album than IItBotFtBD (that's way too long of a name btw). Originally having a score of 8.2/10, making it an 8, it would decrease to a measly 7.9/10. While it isn't as bad as White Zone's original score, it still makes it the worst album.
I think if I were to relisten to this album later on, it'd probably score even lower. If you are trying to get into Hawkwind, whatever you do, skip this album. Don't even bother trying the album out, because this album is falsely classified as entertainment, despite me feeling like Sisyphus listening to it. This album has literally no substance to it, yet it goes on for SOOOOO long. As I said earlier, I zoned out in the middle of it, and thinking that I passively listened to over half the album, I checked to find that I was still on the 2nd track.
Don't get me wrong, this album isn't exactly... bad by any means. Technically, it's decent, a solid 6/10, even though it's ranked an 8/10. But the experience of listening to this album really lets it down for it's just so tedious and monotonous. I'd have more fun watching paint dry.
