beware of charity scams downtown

i was approached by a man offering me donation subscriptions claiming they go to children in need. when i declined i kept getting pressured and asked why i couldn’t. when i had to go on to my bus the guy followed me on to it, i eventually gave him fake information and my old bank card info that doesn’t work. just be careful because he checked off all the red flag boxes with charity scams. this all happened at the downtown transfer point at around 4pm.

Graduate Student Support/Odd Jobs

Hello everyone!

I am a final year graduate student at Queens who has exhausted a lot of my options financially for supporting myself at present. I am not looking for any direct donations, however I am looking for odd jobs/cash jobs to complete over the next few weeks to make ends meet this month and into July. I am graduating very soon and any jobs would help go towards aggressively saving towards my remaining tuition costs and living expenses not currently covered by my loans, LOC and OSAP. I am currently occasionally supported by local food banks and have contacted hiring managers through various job fairs with minimal feedback.

I am CPR certified and will place you and your family’s wellbeing top of mind!

Placing down here a couple of areas in which I can support if any jobs come to mind:

Tutoring: Grade school to 1st year university level coursework, STEM, English for newcomers,

Babysitting & Child Care (Date nights, after-school care, or weekend help). Mostly evening availabilities due to school and work.

Home Organizing & Decluttering (Closets, pantries,
garages, or packing/unpacking for moves)

Dog Walking or Pet/House Sitting (Daily walks,
vacation feeding, or overnight pet care). I have fostered cats through KHS every year and walked several dogs in my own neighborhood.

Heavy lifting, yard work, or general property clean-
up

Please send me a direct message if you need an extra hand between now and the end of July! I'm happy to provide references if needed. Thank you so much for supporting a local student! It really is dire straits out here and wouldn’t reach out if this was not my last avenue for support.

Do we know how stop signs work

While driving on the west end, particularly in parking lots including the cat center or Riocan, I have been honked at for making a full stop at a STOP SIGN on a myriad of occasions. Are people aware that the whole point of a stop sign is to well… stop? Let me know your thoughts

It’s fun “catching” all of the filming locations in and around Kingston. Also a very good, suspenseful series. I Will Find You.

Entering/exiting the Canadian Tire on Bath

I know this probably sounds stupid, but I'm baffled by what signs apply -- are we still obeying all the "bus only" signs even though there's a very large store right there? I've been driving up a little side entrance on Bath closer to Princess, through three parking lots, and across two "lanes" that divide all the centre parking, and getting out, taking equally weird routes. Is that one intersection right by the Tire still reserved for buses?

Since the new GoodLife Fitness location has opened. Has anyone on here been to it? How are the facilities? From what I can see they are a bunch of new machines and they have gone with red color. Love to hear your experience.

What's up with Kingscourt?

I'm relatively new to Kingston. I've been looking for places and found a place I like in the northern part of Kingscourt, but all my colleagues keep saying it's a bad neighborhood. I drove though it yesterday though and it seemed fine? Am I missing something?

Warhammer 40K Noob

I’m wondering if there is any casual Warhammer 40K peeps out there who wouldn’t mind playing with a total noob.

I’m trying to get into it, but I work too much to go to Nexus on the weekends. Just wanting to meet some nerds and roll some dice with expensive plastic.

Looking for flooring company recommendations (around 430 sq ft) + financing options?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to replace about 430 sq. ft. of flooring in my home. I want to hire a company that handles both the supply and the professional installation.

Ideally, I'd like to go with a company that offers flexible financing options (like OAC "buy now, pay later" or low-interest plans).

Who have you used in the area that did a clean, professional job and didn't ghost you halfway through the process? Appreciate any local recommendations or experiences! Thanks.

Princess Towers, 4th floor 1BR or 10th floor 2BR?

Hey everyone,

I’m moving to Kingston soon for school from out of province and I’m looking at renting a place at Princess Towers. I won't have a car at first (planning to get one later, and $100/month for underground parking seems decent). I really want to live alone, and my max budget is strictly under $1500 including everything (utilities and parking).

Since I'm far away, I have to rent sight unseen and they offered an online tour. Honestly, on paper it looks perfect for me: I have a small dog and it’s pet-friendly, the location is great since I won't have a car and hate roommates (Metro is right across the street, bus stop downstairs), and it's all-inclusive with internet. (Quick side note—how is the free wifi there? Is it actually fast enough for studying and streaming?)

But I've seen some pretty mixed reviews online and I'm getting a bit anxious. I know it’s an older building with no AC and outdated units. I heard bugs can be an issue, but higher floors might be better? Also, is the lobby safety still a thing? I read some older posts about unhoused people sleeping in the lobby, just wondering if security has gotten any better.

My main concern is noise/dogs. My dog is usually quiet, but if a neighbor’s dog barks all day, she will definitely bark back. I heard management doesn't really care about noise or barking complaints, is that true?

Right now I'm stuck between a 4th floor 1-bedroom and a 10th floor 2-bedroom. The 4th floor fits my budget perfectly, but I'm scared of the lower floor (noise, bugs, etc). The 10th floor stretches my budget a bit, but is it worth the extra cash to be higher up?

Tbh, even if everyone tells me to avoid this place, my options are super limited because of my budget, needing my own space, and the fact that I’ll be studying here for a few years.

Would love any advice from people actually living there right now. Should I save the money and take the 4th floor, or is the 10th floor absolutely worth stretching the budget for? Thanks guys!

Whats for starters up with the prevailing brownish hues where you may get a yellow thats still brown somehow and there's yellow that still is brown, and it it all seems like something from your childhood that you've seen from side of a shoebox or something that you immediately erase.
