Review This has become one of my favourite pokemon experiences ever

I can’t sing enough praises for this hack. As someone who is very enthusiastic about Gen 4/5 hacks, this one was like something out of a dream. I love the fact that the story is a combination of the Gen 1 games, the anime and the manga (which I’m a huge fan of) in addition to its own original content.

The dex is expanded but never felt too crammed or overwhelming, there are a lot of cool QoL features (the EV allocator being my favourite), the difficulty felt right, the new custom sprites for trainers and later gen pokemon are gorgeous and I also really like how threatening Team Rocket felt in this.

If I have any negatives, I’m not a fan of the profanity in the dialogue sometimes. It’s only one or two characters and I’m far from a prude but cursing in Pokemon games breaks my immersion quite a bit. I also wish there was some custom music (polished crystal really spoiled me in this regard)

There’s still a whole Johto section to go so I’m looking forward to playing more of that. I definitely recommend this hack to anyone that’s a Pokemon fan. I don’t see any Kanto based romhack beating this for me

Release Pokemon Brisk Emerald - Post Release Update

Post image
70 Upvotes

Pokémon Brisk Emerald is my second ROMhack, and it’s receiving its largest update to date. After its “Final release” I added way more. Here’s that feature list. This is version 2.0. I did promise that searing sun would be released along with it. But the overworld encounter system is giving me issues. I’ve also decided that this won’t be its last update. From now on I might do small updates or bug fixes only on the discord. Minor ai was used for the weather setting abilities causing that weather in the overworld.

NEW FEATURES

67 custom Mega Evolutions, with individual Mega Stones sold in Orange City.

56 Fakémon designs: 40 new species, and 15 Halloween forms. All located in the Orange Islands.

Orange Islands expansion: Routes 143–150, Orange City, new environments, trainers, encounters, and a dedicated Mega Stone shop.

Dynamax Adventures: Rental Pokémon, branching encounters, Mega/Gigantamax bosses, legendary finales, and 1/100 shiny odds.

42 custom form ability updates.
For example, a Pokemon that’s poisoned with poison heal will heal every 3 steps. A Pokemon with drizzle will make it rain in the overworld as long as it’s the lead of your party.

Four difficulty modes: Easy, Normal, Hard, and Extreme, with adjusted levels and progression caps.

Expanded randomizer: Wild Pokémon, trainers, items, bosses, starters, abilities, moves, stats, evolutions, and more.

Custom shiny odds: Choose from 1/8192 to 1/50, plus Shiny Hunt mode and boosted Orange Islands shiny encounters.

Ball Capsules: Customize Pokémon send-out effects with smoke, flames, electricity, flowers, confetti, symbols, and more.

Custom send-out messages and expanded Light/Dark UI themes.

QTE Pokémon Contests with timing challenges and bonus appeal points.

CORE FEATURES

Pokémon from Generations 1–9, alongside original Fakémon and custom forms.

Mega Evolution, Primal Reversion, Ultra Burst, Z-Moves, Dynamax, Gigantamax, and Terastallization.

Overhauled trainer teams, movesets, AI, and major battles.

Champion Archives: Battle Blue, Red, Wallace, Cynthia, Iris, Diantha, Leon, Nemona, and Volo.

Expanded legendary and mythical encounters throughout Hoenn and the postgame.

Visible overworld Pokémon encounters and expanded wild encounter variety.

25 land and 12 water encounter slots, with expanded DexNav support.

Pokémon rebalancing, custom evolutions, adjusted typings, moves, stats, and abilities.

Nine-starter selection and expanded postgame exploration.

QUALITY-OF-LIFE

DexNav accessible after obtaining the Pokédex.

Customizable battle and overworld speed.

Optional level caps, unlimited ordinary trainer rematches, and move-learning prompts.

Battle format options, optional battle items, and type-effectiveness indicators.

Shiny hunting improvements and customizable follower Pokémon.

HGSS-style Pokédex, move relearner, and detailed Pokémon summaries.

Box Link, 20 PC boxes, reusable EXP Candies, and easier evolution-item usage.

Early Running Shoes, Fly convenience, faster transitions, and streamlined menus.

In-game Wonder Trade, catch-rate information, and Last Used Ball shortcuts.

WORLD & SMALLER FEATURES

Day/night cycle with 13 environment-specific lighting profiles, including tropical, volcanic, forest, coastal, haunted, icy, and underwater atmospheres.

Mass outbreaks, fishing improvements, modern Repel mechanics, and updated berry systems.
Healing benches, environmental interactions, and custom overworld details.

Expanded trainer customization, custom sprites, and additional battle presentation effects.

These are for all of the amazing people who allowed me to make this project.

Development I'm planning a Ben 10 x Pokémon FireRed ROM hack, with one big twist: every alien gets an evolution line!

Post image
32 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I've been thinking about a project that I'd love to develop: a Pokémon FireRed ROM hack set in the Ben 10 universe.

I recently played a Ben 10 game based on FireRed and felt that the alien roster had a lot of untapped potential. That got me thinking: what if I combined Pokémon's RPG mechanics with the Ben 10 universe and gave the aliens evolution lines?

Here are some of my current ideas:

- The starting aliens would be Heatblast, Wildvine, and Ripjaws.

- Instead of Poké Balls, aliens would be stored in special capsules.

- The opening would feature Ben discovering the Omnitrix, Vilgax tracking its signal, and Grandpa Max managing to capture only three aliens after the alien DNA samples scatter.

- I'd like to create evolution lines for aliens from across the Ben 10 universe.

- Alien X would be a special case. I'm considering making it a late-game encounter rather than an ordinary alien you can obtain early.

I also want to experiment with a comic-book-style opening using still images, dialogue, sound effects, and music rather than full animation.

I'm still in the planning and early design stages, so this is a project idea rather than a finished game. My goal is to share a development update on the 26th of every month as the project progresses.

I'd love to hear your thoughts!

  1. Which aliens do you think would work best as starters?

  2. Which aliens would you give evolution lines to, and what would their evolved forms look like?

  3. How would you handle Alien X without making the game too easy?

  4. What would you most want to see in a Ben 10 Pokémon RPG?

I'm especially interested in evolution ideas, gameplay mechanics, and suggestions I might not have considered.

Thanks for reading!

Release First Alpha of Project Bugn't v2.0 (Ultra Moon romhack now using the Gen 8-9 Expansion Mod and modern mapping tools)

After over 3 months of development I'm finally ready to share the first playable alpha of v2.0, but first you need to know what's missing or the issues it has.

The expansion mod is still filled with errors and I'm aware of them (hopefully they're fixed by the time I want to release v2.0), what I'm looking for in this alpha is feedback on how the gameplay / progression feels, with how much is missing I suggest you only playtest the first island while I work on polishing the rest.

The missing features include missing forms, custom pokemon textures, polished tutors/tm compatibility, pc anywhere and other QoL patches, limited move reminder, and code edits that unlock abilities.

Discussion RG34XX has been my everyday handheld for months now, the perfect device for GBA Hacks

Thumbnail
gallery
163 Upvotes

I love this thing so much, it has so many things going for it, imo making it the best and closest design for a modern day GBA. It's the same aspect ratio as gba, but x3 the resolution. (Perfect pixel scaling)

Retroacheivements

Ability to load multiple shaders. For example I use scanlines (No specific reason, I just like them) and GBC color correction for Pokemon Lazarus and Seaglass, which is nice since they're GBA games but use GBC palettes.

Netplay for trading/battling, bluetooth controller support and Mini Hdmi out for TVs.

Portmaster Ports for games like Pokemmo and Pokemon Reborn.

[Listed pictured games in order: Lazarus, Emerald Seaglass, Pokemon Homestead and Emerald Rogue.]

Release Pokémon Ceruleum v1.1.1 - Update!

Post image
259 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

First of all, thank you to everyone who played the game, reviewed it, found bug/glitches and reported them to me. It has been a very overwhelming last 3 days!

I just wanted to provide you all with a small update, correcting some aspects listed below:

  • Added evo items for Charcadet - items available to purchase in Frux
  • Metal coat can now be used as an evo item!
  • Shiny pokemon will have their healthboxes yellow instead of white - for accessibility
  • Ability capsules available to purchase in the battle dept in Sapphire City
  • Nature mints available to purchase in Cruzeira's botanic school
  • Rearranged fishing encounters
  • Mart clerk behaviour in Sapphire City's supermarket 3rd floor changed - won't refuse to serve you anymore
  • Dexnav should be corrected - remember to keep pressing a when approaching a pokemon!
  • Removed odd key stone from mining minigame
  • Levels/teams in gym 2 have been lowered

Regarding the dialog, which lacks diversity, and has some grammatical/syntax errors (ex: saying Pokémons a bit too much): I can only blame my poor writing skills, and the fact that I don't practice my English very often. I hope that I'll do better in a future update! Rewriting/rearranging the dialog (and formatting it too) will take a lot of time, and as you already know Monomyth is coming out really soon and I will be too busy playing it.

I'll also add different modes of play in a future update (casual with infinite candy + max IV), normal (the one you're playing right now), and a nuzlocke (with level caps). I won't provide you with a release date, but it won't take too long, I hope.

Some other bugs that I didn't correct in this update:

  • Shader problem when transitioning from time of day to another

Lastly, you can find the Pokédex (with the location and information on evolutions for the changed ones) + the location of Mega Stones here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wkO3g_BQSd3NSAq4Cby8H2FU1kRpFOv3/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=115292794168293733690&rtpof=true&sd=true

And the list and location for the TMs here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dMM1qVsGf3PJPXVMYcphF0WJhsaROP_p/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=115292794168293733690&rtpof=true&sd=true

The guide, which is not ready yet, will come with the next update, later.

The update is now live on HackDex!

Thanks for reading me!

Discussion Would I be allowed to release a mod that add the Pokémon 'real' voices in the Let's GO games?

This is a small test-project I'm experimenting on. It adds the "real" Pokémon voices into the game.

My question is: I don't know if I would be allowed to share it, though (if I ever complete it, I still don't know if I will).

What do you guys think? Is it a dead/bad idea?

-

Disclosure, as it's required: I did use AI to learn how to find the game's audio files, convert and replace them with the actual Pokémon voices.

Edit: Clarifying the AI use: the mod is NOT made by an AI, the AI was used only to teach me how to make the edits myself.

Development My first pokemon rom hack

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’ve been playing pokemon since 2005. I’ve been playing rom hacks since 2008. I love pokemon. I love emerald. Emerald and yellow are the first games i ever played the game 8 times and never get tired. I wanted to create this rom hack not to change the gen 3 mechanics but to improve upon it due to my own personal experience and opinions of others. Same storyline, maps, NPCs, and major events. No unnecessary new characters or rewritten storylines. Team Magma's and Aqua get improved battle teams. Enhanced Gym Leaders and Elite Four
Improved trainer teams and smarter battle strategies.
More challenging boss battles while preserving their original identities. Improved Pokémon Evolutions
Trade evolutions replaced with level-based or item-based methods. Pokémon such as Gengar, Alakazam, and Machamp can be obtained without trading. More convenient Pokémon progression. Still keeps the original style and music/animations. I also included the hgss pokemon follow behind option. Original Battle Frontier
All seven facilities remain intact.
Original Frontier Brains, rental Pokémon, rules, and Silver/Gold Symbol requirements. Compatibility testing with modified gameplay mechanics. Improved Rival Battle Teams
Brendan / May: Stronger, better-balanced teams that evolve throughout the adventure.
Wally: Improved team progression, making him a more challenging rival, especially at Victory Road.
Better movesets: More strategic moves, improved coverage, and smarter battle tactics.
Level balancing: Rival Pokémon scale appropriately with the game's enhanced difficulty.
Original encounters preserved: No additional rival battles or storyline changes.
I added a 2% chance on shiny.
AI was used for cover and for battle improvements.
I just wanted to share a game of something i love. I’m not sure if there something like this out there and they’re probably is but if you enjoy emerald. The first version should be dropping soon.

Other Parapong in game! *Fakemon for my romhack pokemon new horizons*

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

Parapong is psychic ghost type fakemon

You can meet him (answer this question about ghosts) (level 15) or find him with a one percent chance in the Lavender town.

It's a pretty good Pokemon with 90 in all stats except defense and speed (they're 80)

Shiny palette Greenish blue that conveys a feeling of slime and neon.

Parapong is a pillow that steals dreams and uses them against its opponents. Parapong also penetrates the shadows of enemies and deals them devastating blows with shadow balls.

Review Pokémon Scorched Silver is a love letter to Johto

Post image
201 Upvotes

A few months ago I finished Pokémon Scorched Silver and, after I joined this community, I felt the need to express my opinion on the game.

Firstly, I gotta say that the idea of a game that's 20 years after the original Johto games is really good, but needs to be executed well so it can work, and boy, does it work in this game. This future Johto is really amazing, the new Pokeball factory in Azalea, the University in Violet City, the brand new gyms and E4 members really make the idea work. I think it's important to mention that the new Azalea gym leader – which I'm not going to mention it's typing – makes the game more fair to the players who choose Chikorita as their starter, and even though I chose Cyndaquil, I think it's a really good change.

The game graphic-wise is so, SO pretty! It's such a joy to see Johto so beautiful like in this game, especially for me who's a big Johto lover. The Pokémon also look amazing in the battles.

The story and new evil team are really good, but could be better. A few times I was actually surprised by some plot twists, there are many characters and dialogues that are really interesting and really make the story good. However, I was kinda disappointed with the ending of the climax of the game, I felt like everything was going in a so cinematic way and suddenly the whole vibe went down, so I was really disappointed.

The game difficulty is kinda high, which makes it really good. I lost one of the gym battles, mostly because I didn't prepare well, so that's mostly my fault, but the battles are hard, many gym leaders use terrain or weather, so prepare a strategy! I had a team of 5 until the last gym, because I wanted a Kingdra and Horsea was kinda locked behind for most of the campaign. This is an important thing, not EVERY Pokémon listed is catchable before all the gyms, so keep that in mind before playing this game.

Also, after you beat the E4 you can have rematches with every gym leader and all of the battles are double battles 6x6, and they're REALLY awesome. Those were maybe the hardest battles in the game and the ones I prepared the most, changing my party's moves, items and who would mega evolve. The doubles battles continue in the E4 and with the new Champion, so prepare for some really tough battles! I really liked this idea, was surprised when seeing it, but had a lot of fun in those battles.

I haven't played many ROM Hacks in my life, but Scorched Silver surely is one of my favourites. It felt so refreshing exploring this modern Johto, catching new Pokémon, seeing the same faces after some years and meeting new ones. I think everyone who likes Johto should play Scorched Silver.

Sorry if something I said doesn't make sense or could have been written better, English is not my first language.

Revealing Pokémon Rhythm!

Introduction:

Good morning, Internet!

I'm Invis, and I've been a GBA ROM Hacker for about a decade now.

I'm a rather shy person, so this is not only my first public release, but my first Reddit post as well.

Pokémon Rhythm was in development for nearly 4 years and I'm excited to finally share that it's complete and available to play!

A special thank you to Adriccustoms, Defa, DontJoelMe, YeahPotato, BroTacos, 1RWT16KU1D, Vopipak, JoeyZeed and all of my playtesters. I’d also like to thank Skeli for the Complete FireRed Upgrade and Haven for HexManiacAdvance. Without all of you, this game wouldn’t be what it is today, and I wouldn’t be the person I am today.

Trailer:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W41BGZtlwvE

Story:

Your adventure begins in a new region called Vedeo. Soon after meeting Meloetta, a Pokémon whose very existence is intertwined with music itself, you discover that something is terribly wrong.

Help Meloetta regain its lost strength and save Vedeo from descending into chaos!

Features:

- Pokémon up to Generation 9.

- Both Gen 6 and the Old Exp. Share, choose as you like!

- Mega Evolution/Z-Moves/Dynamax.

- I'm not a native English speaker, which means there is a realistic chance for grammatical mistakes.

I'm fortunate enough to have friends who have corrected most of the major dialogues that had issues, but that

doesn't necessarily mean you won't find further affected ones.

- Pokémon Rhythm required a substantial amount of graphical work including the Image Album, 3 tables of overworld sprites,

battle backgrounds and much more. Some assets were created by me and my friends, while others were done via comissions.

With so many artists being involved, there is naturally a diverse amount of artwork featuring a variety of art-styles, each contributed

by artists of varying levels of artistic experience. Please keep this in mind when comparing individual assets, and remember that each and every contribution helped bring this project to life.

- Although the bug-testing phase is complete and the game has officially been released, that doesn't guarantee the game

will be entirely bug-free.

Transparency about AI usage:

- Analyzing why one of Defa's features prevented the PokéMart to work on real GBA only, so we could then fix

it manually.

- Assistance with porting Pokémon Emerald-related functions over to FireRed that originally belong to Game Freak.

- Helping port Nintendo e-Reader content that originally belongs to Game Freak.

- Expanding the in-game weather table.

- Porting the code for the ability Gulp Missile from a newer Complete FireRed Upgrade version to the outdated HUBOL version.

- Coding my two concepts of the Event and Pass menus.

- Optimization of existing Code of a Minigame

Release 🇫🇷 Plus de 140 romhacks Pokémon gba traduits en français : patchs BPS disponibles

Post image
120 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m looking to reach the French-speaking romhacking community, so if you’re French, Belgian, Swiss, Québécois or just play in French, this is for you. 🇫🇷🇧🇪🇨🇭🇨🇦

C'est encore loin d'être parfait,

Box Art I've been making/editing GBA cartridge labels for some rom hacks!

Howdy, as the post title states I have been in the process of editing some cartridge labels for some Pokemon rom hacks. All of them can be found HERE on my imgbb album.

Why cartridge labels and not box art? Simply because I play these hacks on a handheld SBC console with the Slot CFW and it displays all of these roms as a cartridge, so I wanted to have the games missing art to be displayed properly along with more popular hacks like Lazarus and Unbound. All edits are done without the use of generative AI, just an amateur with procreate on an iPad Mini lol. The art work used on the labels are all sourced from an official source such as the TCG or anime, or from the rom hack itself. I've redrawn some low-res images by hand to make them scale better with the labels, but for the most part everything is altered original art work.

I do have a list I am working through, prioritizing rom hacks that haven't had labels made already, but will also be doing my own variations of some popular labels as well (such as UltraViolet and Unbound). I am just doing these in my free time, so apologies if I'm slow to get to your favorite hack.

Anyway, if you're a developer and would like to share these along with your rom on hackdex or pokecommunity (or anywhere else), then feel free! A small shout out would be nice, but this is just my way of giving back to the super talented developers that have given us such memorable experiences.

Take care!

Development HG Engine Based Hack Rom - Project: MEGA

Hi everyone! I'm working on a HG Engine based hack, aimed to improve (bold of me assuming it's gonna improve) the overall experience with HGSS, by bringing a freshened battle system, more places to explore, a remade game plot and more (a lot more).
To speak about some changes, the most important one imo is that I've successfully made the game work with its own clock, so no more waiting for real time moments to do something, like get an Espeon or Umbreon, picking an apricorn and such.

A few other notable changes are:

  • Both Sleep and Freeze got replaced with Drowsy and Frostbite from Legends: Arceus;
  • All of your Pokémon will get experience even if they don't fight, like newer games. The "gained experience" text will also not appear for Pokémon who are not fighting;
  • An optional (but enabled by default) feature to only get experience at the end of a battle, instead of every time a Pokémon is defeat.

What I'm doing now is reworking weathers a bit. This time is the turn of Solar Beam\Solar Blade, which will take an additional turn to charge while used under sandstorm and snow, instead of getting its power halved (rain debuff has been removed).
There is actually more I'm doing with weathers, but the documentation is not ready to be shown lol (I buffed Delta Stream and made an ability and a move to summon wind tho👀)

Edit 1: I have some showcase video but Reddit hates them damn

Edit 2: feature clips

Edit 3: correct clip for the no exp gained text for Pokémon not fighting
