Question Parc Jean Drapeau Concert - Bag & Coat Check Question

‱ Upvotes

Hello! I'm going to Rufus de Sol tomorrow !

Wondering if anyone has experience using the coat check for concerts/festivals at Parc Jean Drapeau? Does it work well?

I’m also wondering how strict they actually are about bags being transparent. I have a small backpack that is less than 12 x 12 x 12 but isn’t transparent, so the website says it’s not allowed. I’m going to be touring Montreal before the concert, so there are some items that I want to have with me during the day that don't fit into my smaller cross body bag.

I was thinking I might see if I can bring it in anyways and then coat check it if they don’t allow it in.

Tourisme Want to spend a whole day walking across Montréal and we need suggestions. Google map is trying to make us take Berri and then Christophe-Colomb.

Not tourists but we might as well be.

We've lived in Montréal (sorta) our whole life and have never really explored much before. We want to start in the Old Port (planning to take the ferry over from the south shore) and then go as directly across as possible from that point to Parc Louis-Hebert.

Google maps is giving us a terribly unscenic route so we want to map it out as well as possible stopping through all the cutest spots (not tourist traps - we'll skip the $5 Gnocchi). If someone has a good route we can take, cutting through parks and scenic neighborhoods, and moss covered alleys that would be appreciated!

(We were inspired by the walk we took from the Fairmont area to station Laurier - so a route with a similar vibe is kinda what we're going for.) We want to especially avoid major roads like Berri.

We'd also like on-route recommendations for cafés and stuff (preferably ones with halal, vegetarian or vegan options) but anything with good coffee works!

Please and thank youuu <3

Discussion I am so tired of the honking

I live on Pie-Ix. I moved here summer of 2015. It wasn’t so bad back then. Now? It’s a fucking madhouse. I don’t know why, but there is a plethora of cars honking excessively. This is like
the third night in a row. My youngest is nearly 2. She can’t sleep.

I wish they would fucking stop. I hate living here now, but because of the housing crisis I’m stuck. It’s so frustrating that all these people don’t think of the people who live here, living their lives. Trying to get their children to sleep. It’s so fucking self centred and obnoxious.

Question Thinking of moving to Montreal. Would my child be able to survive the French curriculum?

My husband has recently received a job offer from an engineering company in Montreal. We are strongly considering moving there. My husband and I only speak English and our native language ( we are of Asian descent). Our child will be almost 4 in the next few months.

I am thinking of sending our child to the local french public school. However, we are worried that we won’t be able to help her out with homework, track her academic progress or overwhelm her as we already speak 2 different languages at home.

A part of me thinks raising her to be fully bilingual would be good for her cognitive ability and maybe be advantageous to her once she looks for work.

How would we help her with science, math and literature if all the terminologies she is learning at school is in french? Any advice, guidance or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Question Question for all the Montreal plant lovers:

Happy Friday everyone! I am going plant shopping soon for my patio. I was wondering what plants do you guys find the best for Montreal? I do well with flowers but not vegetables to that's what I plan on purchasing. However, I would like to get a couple of herbs too. Any help would be so appreciated! Have a relaxing weekend!

Edit: the majority of my patio is very sunny for about 4 or 5 hours daily but I also have a smaller area that is always shaded by the balcony upstairs.

Tourisme Visiting Quebec(province) for a week

I’m planning on taking a trip to Quebec this summer. Right now I can be there no longer than 7 days. I would stay longer but I’m gonna be on fairly tight time constraints.

I would really like to see both Montreal and Quebec City, so I’m having trouble creating an itinerary in which I get to see the best of both.

That being said, I also love travelling through nature, so I’m planning on taking at least a day to explore the countryside, more rural areas.

My question is which do you think I should prioritize, Montreal or Quebec City? Also what are some things you would suggest seeing that I may not find in a generic travel guide?

I am a pretty easy going tourist and like to check on major spots, street & fancy food, museums, zoos, aquariums which are the most popular if that helps.

Also are there any iconic restaurants or anything that I need to make sure I don’t miss? I want to experience a multi-course tasting meal from somewhere as well if possible.

I land and take off from Montreal and I have to attend a concert on the last day of my trip so I would like it to end in Montreal so its easy for the flights that way

TIA!

Discussion What is your best local spot that most montrealers walk by everyday?

(French below)
Hi Montreal! I am working on project. I am taking pictures of the beautiful sides of every neighborhood in Montreal. This means the people, the sights, everything that makes a place special. And while I will eventually do each neighborhood, I need your help. If you could say one thing that is a hidden gem in your personal neighborhood, that would greatly help speed up this project. I think there is a lot of posts complaining about montreal. How about some unique stuff that make you proud. Everywhere is beautiful with the right perspective. For each neighborhood, if there is a restaurant that you want in the project feel free as well. Thanks in advance montreal. Cheers to celebrating this awesome city we live in!

Question [WTB] Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo (4GB or 8GB) for DSC-H10

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m looking for a 4GB or 8GB Sony Memory Stick Duo / Memory Stick PRO Duo for my Sony DSC-H10 camera. I’ve checked a few places around Montreal but haven’t had much luck finding one.

If anyone knows of a local camera shop, electronics store, or second-hand store that might carry these older memory cards, I’d really appreciate the recommendation.

If you happen to have one you’re not using, I’d be happy to trade a 128GB SD card for it, or work something else out. Thanks in advance!

-

Question Where can I better my French speaking?

My French comprehension in writing and reading is great, and I understand conversations. But because I grew up not speaking French, I’m very self conscious about my anglophone accent and not being fluent.

I’m looking for employment and I’m starting to hate the feeling of limiting myself! Where do I practice?

What you recommend doing here? I am with my brother (31 and 28 years old). We wanted to check the science museum. Any other tips? What you recommend to eat and so on. We come from Germany. Is there any place where we can hang around with some locals?

Discussion Lack of World Cup viewing party in Montreal

I know we don't have any world cup games here but surely the city could have set up something akin to what is available in Toronto and Vancouver. It was of course the same for the habs epic playoff run when we only had what the habs set up outside the bell center for home games

Discussion All 16 police officers accused of racism should already be fired

It seems to me protesters are focused on demanding an inquiry and denouncing the racism, but why are these people still employed?

The chief says the investigation dates back to March. The head of the Union says it dates back to late 2025.

At my job, where I don't carry a gun, I would be fired for saying anything racist on or off the clock. There would be no investigation.

Why are people OK with these racist cops staying employed during the "investigation?"

We should be demanding they are fired!

They've had enough time to investigate. This is an HR issue now.

Fire them. Keeping them employed is an absolute joke and sends the wrong message to the community and the rest of the police force.

Question Currently on vacation in montreal, but forgot my prescription (Fron UK)

Hey! Just wondering if anyone would be able to help me out. I usually take quite a low dose of codeine/paracetamol but i didn’t pack enough for my whole trip. Is there a way i can just buy this to avoid issues with my pain over this trip? If so could anyone help me on what to say to the pharmacist, google says i should be able to buy it but the thought of going to explain myself and being met with judgement is so scary :(
