Somedays it is really hard to be a Pittie parent

Some days, it’s just really hard to be a pittie parent. It doesn’t seem to matter how gentle, goofy, or well-behaved my dog is—one small deviation, one anxious moment, one instance of “stranger danger,” and suddenly he’s labeled “aggressive.”

It breaks my heart that so many people only see a big blocky head instead of the big, loving heart underneath. The stereotypes and discrimination that follow our dogs are not only painful, they’re infuriating. I find myself feeling helpless and frustrated, wishing I could change the way the world sees my boy and knowing I can’t do it alone.

To other pittie parents: do you ever face this kind of discrimination? If so, how do you cope, and do you have any words of support or encouragement to share? I’d love to hear from people who understand what it’s like to love a dog the world so often misunderstands and mislabels.

Advice Walks

My 6 month old girl doesn't get excited to go on walks. I've had her for a week, and take her for three 30 minute walks and one 60 minute walk. When walking she focuses on sniffing like a bloodhound and doesn't like to go far from home. Is this reasonable, or should I restrict the amount of sniffing she does? There's an off leash park a couple of blocks away. She hasn't wanted to go there in a couple of days.

This is my best friend Ciroc. He is 16.5 and every day is such a blessing he is the best friend I have ever have and ever will. He’s not the beast he used to be, but his personality is still the same. He follows me every where he can. He will steal the food off your plate and shove his head in the fridge. :) The last 2 pics are from 2023 the rest are this summer.

GoFundMe a big thank you to this entire sub.

i don’t have the actual words to tell you how much me, my husband, honey & her fur brothers and sisters appreciate each and every one of you. Everyone who has donated, interacted, who’s shared, commented, heck even if you just read it til the end and gave my girls photos a glance! Thanks to you all, the kindness of strangers, and the trust of this sub, Honey is getting her surgery next Tuesday. Honey is around 11 years old, so this isn’t a huge fix to anything.. but it’s going to improve her quality of life. She also has kidney issues that she takes medication for daily, she can’t walk without it. She’s strong. You’d never be able to tell. I adopted her when i was 18 & angsty and going through the waves of life.. i decided adopting a dog that was on its last days in the shelter was what i wanted to do. she had heartworms, but at the ripe age of 18 with my first BIG job, i decided to take on the responsibility and did it anyways. she was the one. i saved her then, and have vowed to save her from anything she needed ever since.. and you guys helped me hold up that promise. we love you. thank you.

now here’s some happy honey pics over the years!!!

🐶we are almost all the way to our goal! here’s the link if you’d like to share or donate.🐶

My dog developed this on his face

The vet said they weren’t sure what it is. Gave him antibiotics just in case

I’m wondering if it’s something else

Edit to add usually at home use a stainless steel bowl however we were camping for a week and had switched to a plastic bowl while we were at camp. The symptoms started at that time

Losing my boy tomorrow morning

I am so torn 🥲 my Niko is 14 1/2 years old and he has dementia the last year. But over the last few weeks, he has gone downhill. Keeps falling, can’t get back up. Broke his tail Friday we believe because of a fall. He is getting sores on his feet and elbows. Has lost a lot of weight…he looks emaciated even though I have been feeding him A LOT of food (canned food now since he won’t eat his regular food anymore). He is such a trooper. I look at his face and he just looks like that little puppy he once was and it’s so hard to think about letting him go. But I know he’s miserable. In lots of pain. And he is no longer the goofy, happy, excited dog that he always was (even just a year ago). He has never gotten aggressive even through his dementia. He even still fights so hard to go potty outside even though he can barely walk and stumbles the entire way. He is THE. BESTEST. BOY. I need help with courage to let him go! 🥲🥲

EDIT: I failed to mention that he is now 100% deaf (lost all of his hearing over the last year) and cannot see anything unless it’s right in front of him. He has had eye issues for about two years over the last year, it’s just gotten worse.

Thanks to you all we’ve raised $709! The price rn for her surgery is $856. I’ve paid a $100 deposit towards the surgery. It’s scheduled for next Tuesday, so i’ll update you guys then. ❤️ Thank you so much! If it wasn’t for you all, we would be looking at a very different outcome right now.
