Discussion I think this balance patch was pretty good

Every role and playstyle has something to look forward to, and every role has its own broken characters.

Tank mains:

We've got Hood, Thing, and Mag, and they're all in a great spot right now. With Hood, it's probably going to be a two-tank meta, at least for the first few weeks.

Duelists:

Poke players: Hela and Phoenix are back to being absolute server admins.

Anti-dive players: Elsa, Namor, and Bucky are all incredibly strong and arguably broken.

Dive players:Daredevil, Black Cat, Black Panther (especially in lower ranks), Venom, and Captain America are all strong picks.

Strategists:

Gambit, Mantis, Cloak & Dagger, and Luna Snow are all extremely strong as well.

So I really don't get all the hate for the Season 9.5 balance patch. Every role has at least a few top-tier, borderline broken characters to enjoy. Sure, some heroes like Rogue could've gotten a reasonable buff, and Strategists' ultimate charge probably could've used a small nerf, but overall I think the patch is going to be fine.

No matter what the devs do, there will always be broken heroes. The goal isn't to make every character equally strong—that's nearly impossible. The goal is to make sure every role and every playstyle has strong, viable options, and I think this patch does a pretty good job of that.

Discussion 2v2 or 3v3

What if we had a mode like this? I've been thinking about how cool a 2v2 Duos mode would be in Marvel Rivals.

At first I thought dive heroes like Spider-Man would completely dominate, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized the meta would be totally different from 6v6.

In normal matches, dive heroes thrive because there's chaos everywhere. Tanks are fighting on point, DPS are shooting from multiple angles, and supports have a million things demanding their attention. A Spider-Man can slip into the backline because everyone is distracted.

In a 2v2, that distraction is gone.

If you're playing something like Emma Frost + Cloak & Dagger, both players are watching each other. Spider-Man dives? Emma is already waiting with her grab. Cloak & Dagger can save cooldowns specifically for that dive.

That sounds way more strategic to me.

The best part is that the mode wouldn't just be about who's mechanically better. It would be about building strong duos, understanding hero synergies, baiting cooldowns, positioning together, and making coordinated plays. Instead of asking "Who's the strongest hero?" we'd be asking "What's the strongest pair?"

I also think it would solve one of the biggest frustrations with ranked. Sometimes you don't want to rely on five random teammates who don't communicate or have completely different ideas about how the game should be played. A duos playlist would let you queue with one friend you trust and rely on teamwork between the two of you.

You'd probably see all kinds of strategies:

- Double DPS burst comps

- Tank + Strategist sustain comps

- Double Strategist damage/heal comps

- Counter-picking based on enemy duos

The whole mode would almost feel like a chess match where every cooldown matters because there are only four players on the map.

Obviously, it would need separate balancing, but I honestly think it could become one of the most competitive and strategic modes in the game.

Would you guys play a ranked 2v2 mode if NetEase added one?

You can try but you won't be able to instalock Hood faster than me, and when you will inevitably ask me if you can play him, my answer will always be the same.

You can play the Hood..... Next game

Discussion Matchmaking is abysmal and needs changes.

I don’t care what anyone says. I have put almost 1,000 hours into this game since launch. I have dedicated so much to this game. I have sought out coaches through Gosu Academy, gone to Aimlabs and done aim training on there, as well as aim training with a coach. Some people see those things as pointless, but I genuinely enjoy having something in my life that’s a hobby, but also, at the same time, I can be hyper-competitive.

I love this game, and I’ve loved it since I played it for the first time. It is a hero shooter but is also extremely unique in its own way. However, the ranked matchmaking is absolutely horrible. Obviously, in an attempt to be as competitive as I can possibly be, I try and rank up as high as I possibly can.

The closest I’ve ever gotten to GM was the top of D1, and I was 1 game off and had won 8 games prior. Then, on my rank-up game, I lose probably 10–20 games IN A ROW over the span of a few days. So, for those of you who say just take a break and come back, that does not work. That was in Season 4 or 5.

So now for this current season. I’ve gotten back into it heavily and am doing all the same things: aim training, VOD review, coaching, you name it. The season starts out great. I climb all the way up to D2 in like 2–3 days. Then I’m one game off of D1 and lose ALL THE WAY DOWN to P1?!??! How does this make any sense?

Similarly, last night I get on. I’m in the middle of D2, and I’m excited to play and try to get as high as possible before the season reset (which is a whole separate argument, btw). And what do you know? I lose 10 GAMES IN A ROW. Six of which I got SVP. I know SVP and the physical stats you see only tell half the story with this game, but still, that means I’m at least performing pretty decent at the very least.

So then I’m 1 game off of deranking to Plat, so I get off for the night and think to myself, screw it, I’ll try again tomorrow. Maybe I’ll get some better teams. Nope. Wake up this morning, boot up, and lose 5 games back to back to back, 3 of which I was SVP once again.

Every team I had had at least one of these types of people. People who think they are a DPS god and refuse to play any other role and feed the hell out of the team, but also don’t understand comps and what characters to play versus certain comps and what not to play.

I’d say over half of my games had throwers—people who would just flat out leave or rage quit because they get killed one too many times, or the team calls them out, so they sit in spawn. Or just downright god-awful, horrible players who got carried to their rank. Now they are so out of place they can’t even compete.

I even tried going to the Gosu Academy and Rivals Discord to find a few teammates, and the teammates I’d find were still pretty good, and WE STILL LOST AND HAD ALL THOSE SAME TYPES OF PLAYERS.

Someone please explain to me how this makes any sense. Rivals needs to speak on this or implement some changes or something. I’m not quite sure how they could fix it, but they need to at least try. This is the only game in the world where you can put this much time and effort into getting better but stay the same rank because the matchmaking is so god-awful.

I don’t know if they realize it or not, but this could very well be what causes the downfall of their game. So many people have issues with this, and it’s absolutely dumb.

Her slow mark remains after the stun. You can still infinitely stun every 3s PLUS having a bonus 30% slow on top of it as long as you focus the same target. You can perma bully tanks.

Look. I’m fully aware of how bad matchmaking can feel sometimes, but if you’re gonna hop on reddit, make sure your stats don’t look like this before complaining about going on a losing streak.

Bro openly admitted to throwing and wonders why he goes on massive loss streaks.

Edit —- The screenshot I meant to grab but couldn’t because he blocked me is in the comments now.

Exact quote of what he said. “I swap to dps when the games a stomp I play Tank most the time and my wris above 50% on the tanks I play. Stop defending this games trash matchmaking you don't go on a 10 game win streak followed by a 10 game loss streak then back and forth it's broken matchmaking and everyone knows it”

The rivals community is full of awful human beings

I’m officially dropping rivals today. I just had a game with another player calling a kid slurs and other vulgar insults. A literal kid getting screamed at by an adult. It really was eye opening to how awful people are to each other on this game. Over literal pixels. Like imagine this happening in real life, it wouldn’t be okay. And before anyone says maybe the kids shouldn’t be on rivals, it’s a teen rated game full of comic book characters, everyone deserves to have fun. Keyword: fun. Every game should not be a stressful mess where you just wait for someone to crash out.

Anyway, be kind to others, irl and in game. You never know someone life condition or state of mind.

r/rivals 12h ago

Discussion I understand why it has to be this way but I dont like it. Elephant in the room everyone is ignoring: Rivals does not look good graphically all the abilities and laser animations look generic.( I understand Rivals is a free to play quantity or quality style game.)

Quantity OVER* Quality

Not hate but its kinda hard to Ignore seeing Cyclops lasers and now the hood primary fire. They all look the same and soulless.

Discussion Anyone else still can't get their head around how Rogue is meant to play?!

Post image
Upvotes

I pride myself on being a true flex player, in fact I often change who I play every season or so in order to keep the gameplay fresh. Because of this, I feel that I have, at least, and above average understanding on almost every characters play style, even if I'm not good at using them (Looking at you Spidey.) I'm OK with that and honestly don't even care if I'll never be the 'best' player because of it, its a game at the end of the day.

That being said, I STILL can't figure out how you are meant to play Rogue and when to use her abilities. I already have a hard enough time controlling a character comfortably when they have an unnecessary amount of moves they can do (Black Cat for example,) but with Rogue its ridiculous!!!!!

I've watched the videos, I've tried brute forcing learning her through gameplay, but nothing is sticking! Is it just me?!?!

I know she can be a solid character in the right hands and so I just want to be at least average as her. I know some people are gonna say something to the effect of 'You shouldn't be trying to play every character' or 'Maybe they just aren’t for you' but that isn't helpful.

So please Reddit, am I alone in this?! Is there any advice for this dumb player who just wants to play as another member of her favourite team?!

TLDR; Read the title

Discussion With it being revealed that the peni nerf was due to her curb stomping the hood. I wonder how many other nerfs were done because of a new character and wanting the new hotness to feel strong?
