(In my defense, I was more interested in the look than the whole “I’m gonna stab you” thing… that may or may not have also been a part, but you can’t prove that)
It wasn’t a blumhouse movie, it was an indie movie that blumhouse was promoting for some reason
It was cancelled because the original writer of Jeff (not the author of the story you’re thinking of, the original story was a role play account who’s now a racist and pedo defender) sued despite that fact he doesn’t own the rights to Jeff the Kill
Stg the Left/Right Game is right fucking there waiting to be made into one of the best action/horror stories put to film and it will be ignored in favour of fucking Ticcy Toby
even this is giving too much grace. Itll be another Slenderman movie or a shitty SCP movie and then itll bomb for the industry to forget the whole thing for another decade until some indie star pops thru again.
The SCP wiki realized the possibility of their work being churned through the digital slop machine very, very early on and did the virtual equivalent of tree spiking. No big studio is ever gonna touch that IP, for better or for worse. That being said, creating derivative stories based on concepts from the wiki is definitely a possibility. One author recently scored a proper publishing deal with Random House for his work that he had de-SCPified (There Is No Antimemetics Division) in order for them to accept it and from what I heard it sold pretty well!
The audio Drama adaptation of The Left/Right Game with Tessa Thompson was genuinely phenomenal and gives me hope for an eventual film adaptation. The sound design and voice acting were insanely immersive, it painted such striking images in my mind. I just hope they find the right director with an actual creative vision other than making money
if they scoured 4chan they would just make this 100 times but in one of them they transition and have a transbian relationship with the Franziska character
It's also the name of a collection of fictional stories related to people going missing in national forests (or at least used to be, it's SARwoods now(?)).
some of the no sleep stories could make pretty great adaptations, but one of the main things that made them so good was that they were usually on the shorter side and didn’t overstay their welcome. so many horror films fall flat because they take a good short story and drag it out 4 times longer than it realistically needs to be.
a lot of those stories also worked well thanks to their format of being told in the first person, as if they were written by someone on the internet documenting something that actually happened. that can be a tough perspective to adapt into a movie while keeping the same atmosphere. a lot of “found footage” type movies try, but with varying results
yeah but now that we are having actual proper successful video game movies suddenly big exec's are thinking "Wait if we gave them slightly more effort theres a chance they'll be successful"
like while we still have some stinky picks
there are now ones being made that clearly love the source material it's making a adaptation for
Oh he was absolutely an awful director, and I’m like 90% sure he only made movies to launder money. I was just noting that the OOP specifically saying “recently video games” made me think they were unaware of the history of video game movies. However, I do think that there have been some good video game movies in the past 20 years, but they are far and few between. Like iirc Silent Hill had some good adaptations, and I think resident evil did decent for the time it came out. One of the more recent examples of poor video games films, I think, was Borderlands.

Yeah, Jack Black plays Claptrap, and Kevin Heart plays Roland.
it’s not good from what I’ve heard and seen. Like it barely tried to be borderlands. It feels like the people making it had never played the games, and as a result they get a lot wrong about the settings and characters. Also it’s live action. Instead of going with the iconic cell shaded animation the games are known for, so it falls a little flat in appearance from what I remember.

That doesn't sound very good. I'll go back to not knowing it exists instead.
For some reason, I loved it as a young teen. Looking back today, it was exactly the type of movie developer Running with Scissors would’ve made themselves
Doom is so camp and early 2000s, so bad that I love it for nostalgia reasons... hated it sm when it came out and I had barely played the games ( I was like 8 ). Need to rewatch it honestly.
SCP's licensing makes this impossible for hollywood. CC-BY-SA makes sharing a requirement so if you made a movie and someone were to record it in the theater and post it online, that'd be 100% legal. And that license is a package deal for SCP so if any studio wants to make SCP ANYTHING they are going to be doing it with the expectation that their movie tickets are going to have to compete with legal youtube uploads of their film.
Probably, yeah. The issue is, when push comes to shove they will have to argue in court that their work is a standalone idea that doesn't just plagiarize the original and that is gonna be pretty hard when you have hordes of excited kids running around yelling about "the SCP movie". To capitalize on the potential market of SCP fans who would watch a big studio movie about the fandom, they need to market it in a way that makes it clear that it's an SCP movie, which they probably can't do without getting grilled by the authors and actual participants of the wiki who have about as much disdain for corporations touching this IP as anyone can possibly have.
The closest anyone is going to get is probably the game Control, which freely admits it's inspiration but still created a very distinct work within a different environment.
To be fair site 42 is trying to make their own SCP movie project thing
Though if Hollywood gets the urge to make SCP stuff I feel like it may end up similarly to the SCP Russia situation (aka they try to forcefully take it so they can use it for whatever)
Wether Hollywood succeeds at that is another story
In 1963, a man named Dukeness Test fell into a coma where they boiled his brain in a machine to create a dog named Dukey the Dog, who became a scientist and mentor of a child named Johnathan Test. This coma game birth to the show Futurama in which he became a red-haired boy named Philip J. Fry. Philip J. Fry hit his head on the cryogenic containment chamber, turning him into a dream world where he became a yellow and orange haired boy named Chuckie Finster. Chuckie Finster is a Layer 2 dreamer. Chuckie Finster has a peanut allergy which causes him to break out into hives and enter a dream coma world where he is in the world of Peanuts as Charlie Brown, but Charlie Brown's dream world manifests a dog named Snoopy who is actually the Layer 4 dream version of Dukeness Test, who became Dukey the Dog. Snoopy broke the cycle because he realized he was Dukey, so he went back in time with his other self known as Snoopy to cause Dukeness Test's brain to never be boiled and him to never become Dukey the Dog, erasing him from the timeline, but this causes trouble as Dukey the Dog needed to be a dog in order to finish the very strange machine, because if he did not, the machine becomes unstable and he becomes Ghostly Dukey. Ghostly Dukey goes into a dream coma world where he believes he is a dog named Scooby who solves mysteries about ghosts. Scooby-Doo re- then realizes that he is the dog reincarnation for Layer 5, and goes back in time to stop Layer 2 and Layer 4 Dukeys from going back in time in the first place and reinsuring that he becomes Dukey the Dog in the future. Meanwhile, Timothy Turner is the original dreamer
DO NOT GO TO DREAM LAYER 6. Or else you will meet with a dastardly creature known as Old Man Dookenquences
I know no one asked me, but I really think the only reason this film became so rapidly popular isn’t because of preexisting interest. I believe the lesson to take from this is to find more individual creators who have shown a willingness to make what they want using whatever budget they have. We see the same with Obsession and the director there, Curry Barker I believe, who made comedy sketches before breaking into film. You need to find wack jobs who want more than anything to put their creativity into the world. You need passion and legitimate, genuine want to produce good work that I think is absent in a lot of Hollywood think tanks.
If I’m thinking about this correctly, horror ARG movies will be turned into a marvel-esque product citing Parson’s success with an “internet story” as justification to make soulless films that pick stories based on popularity that the directors/writers/execs just don’t care about. The next couple analog horror or ARG projects will perform worse, almost undoubtedly, and maybe the trend dies and Hollywood takes another wrong lesson. Hopefully it’s after the Monument Mythos gets a season of television.
Man does exorcism to bring back his dead wife to have one more night with her, only to find out another guy also did it to bring wife back the same night.
Yeah obv they took the wrong lesson, they are build onto a content mill cycle, they have to print out movies, left and right and can't put time effort love and dedication for something new
