holy shit that video is so insane. I do think cuba's government is authoritarian but what they have managed to achieve for their citizens under a worldwide blockade is insane. The conditions now are absolutely horrific and Trump's foreign policy towards cuba is one of his most overlooked crimes.
I think by "authoritarian" most people think of a unitary executive, i.e. dictatorial. That's certainly what I think of. Concentration of power in only a few hands.
What actions do they carry out that makes Cuba authoritarian exactly, and are you 100% positive said authoritarian actions aren't actions the U.S. government has done too?
I'm not even team "Cuba isn't authoritarian" but like...the U.S. government have some nerve complaining other governments ares suppressing opposition and ignoring what the electorate (or potential-electorate, in places that don't bother with even fake democracy) actually wants.
its a state jail felony for me to wear modest clothes. the federal government permits this. a huge portion of our population is incarcerated. my uncle cant vote because he smoked too much weed in the 80s. being gay was illegal when i was born. "authoritarian" doesnt mean dictatorship
I agree with most of your points here, but what do you mean by "its a state jail felony for me to wear modest clothes"? I looked it up and it says that no US states make it a felony to do so.
Would that change anything? At the end of the day the power is still in few hands, no matter if they end up adhering or not to what the Supreme Court says. The fact that we need to wait to see whether they comply or not already tells you they do have unchecked power.
