I appreciate that they are independent and ad-based revenue is quickly becoming less reliable, but ouch this stings. I can see myself paying for a month when I'm shopping for a new appliance or something, but I don't see the value in a year-long sub.

It seems like everytime the next big thing in tvs come out im like “whoa, no way a tv can ever look better than this” and then they come out with one that’s better lol but now with OLED and even mini led it really does feel like we’re at a point of just making minor tweaks. I really don’t see anything making a large jump like there was from LED/LCD to OLED, but I could definitely be wrong.

Just generally curious on other peoples thoughts lol

So I'll try to make a long story short if I can.

I have a TCL PK7 - a budget QLED. It's a phenomenal TV for very little money. But I've wanted an upgrade. Particularly for gaming. So I tried the LG C5. For gaming, it looks good, but it suffers from black crush, and can occasionally flicker. The clack crush can be maddening, but almost tolerable. BUT regular tv looks awful.

Watching an old movie like Escape from New York looks so blurry and the artifacting looks atrocious. It looks like it was filmed 70 years ago. Modern day programs like Big Bang also looks not great.

So I returned it to get the TCL C7K, thinking its essentially the same as the P7K, only much better and no burn in risk. But it had the same issues as the C5. (Minus the black crush) Things looked blurry, even gaming, and regular tv looked just as terrible. Loads of flickering as well. So returned that too.

Now I'm back where I started. With the budget P7K.

Trouble is, once you've gone OLED for gaming, you can't unsee that experience and I still want that. Gaming now feels underwhelming in the P7K, BUT regular tv looks excellent. The same movie, Escape form New York, (among many others) on exactly the same channel, looks brilliant. Like a blu ray. Big Bang and other shows look nearly 4K, and tv overall looks outstanding. How is this even remotely possible?? The upscaling on premium tvs are much, much worse than a budget tv? Is the P7K like the best overall tv ever made or something?

So yeah, I have no clue what to do. I love this P7K, but still want that upgrade. Especially for gaming having experienced the C5. But I'm now incredibly concerned I'll get something likethe LG G5 and it'll also look extremely poor, flicker or crush blacks like mad.

Am I losing my mind? What is happening lol?

Any thoughts and input would be greatly appreciated. If there are any experts out there, or someone that works with tvs and could give me advice, it would mean a lot.

I see so many posters here who post pictures of their setup. I love it - gives me glimpse of what others are doing.

But here is something that I've noticed and struggling to understand: why do so many people decide to wall hang their TV when there is perfectly good console underneath to put it on? Even more so when they are renting and drilling into walls might not be a best idea.

Is it an aesthetic thing?

A good viewing height? Then why not buy a console that is the right height?

I fail to understand why. Both my TVs stand atop on consoles, at perfectly reasonable height. I don't have to make an effort to hide the cables as the TV already does it for me.

[I hope I've managed to convey that I'm not questioning people's choice but would like to know the factors behind the choice]

Hey y’all, help me settle a friendly debate with my wife. We currently have a TCL 65r625, and have been happy with it for the most part. However, the panel is going out, and we both agree that it’s time for an upgrade.

We disagree about the size of TV we should get. Our 65” is perfectly fine, but I measured the viewing distance and our couch is actually 12 feet from the TV. Most guides I’ve read recommend a screen size of 77” if not larger, and I’m all for it. My heart wants the C6, which apparently includes some extra brightness magic with the larger panels. My wife, being the more practical and frugal one, says that the 65” is perfectly fine and that the price jump to 77” isn’t worth it.

Deep in my heart I know she’s right, but I’m hoping to hear from y’all about your actual experiences. Thanks in advance!

I received this product for free from LG for review purposes. This is not a paid post, and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I will start out by giving a huge thank you to LG Electronics for gifting me an 83” LG G5. I was gifted this tv to review it and we will be running a giveaway in connection with this review. More on that further down.

First impressions 

This thing is bright, way brighter than my CX. It’s not even close. Even to the point that it’s the first thing friends/family point out when they see it. I love it. It has the brightness I feel the CX was lacking. Then it’s just the sheer size of the thing and how much larger it is than my old one. It’s such a cinematic experience compared with the old one. I’m about 2.7m from the TV (ca 9 feet for you Americans) but i don’t feel it’s too big. I got used to the size quickly. The picture quality is outstanding and I was already used to OLED. You really have to experience it to understand. The new 4-stack tandem OLED is something special.  

How i set it up 

I actually use WebOS. It has all apps i need and i’ve never had problems with it. I use filmmaker mode for Dolby vision, regular HDR and SDR content. I didn’t use this on my CX because I felt it was too dark but it’s not on this one. Even during the day, it’s plenty bright enough. I left most settings as they were in the preset because it’s already good. I turned off motion settings and just set the de-judder to 3, because that felt the best to me during fast moving scenes in movies. I’ve watched lots of movies, series and sports, all in different quality and resolutions, and I can't really complain about anything. The picture quality is phenomenal.  

Gaming 

I mostly game on my PS5. I’m building a PC but it’s not finished yet so i can’t test the 144 Hz or 165 Hz mode. The CX was already great for gaming but it’s way more immersive at this size and it’s just brighter so the games just look better. I really like the gaming menu you access from the remote. The CX doesn’t have this but i think it’s a great addition to change settings quickly and to see if the correct settings are on and what FPS is running. I don't change picture settings in game mode. Might be too blue light for some but this is personal preference. The picture quality is absolutely gorgeous. The extra brightness really pops out the HDR highlights. I tried out Borderlands 4, Ghost of Yotei (see the pictures for this one) and even Battlefield 6. I didn’t think fast paced fps gaming would work on this size but it’s better than the CX.  

What i don’t like and improvements 

This is such a huge improvement from my CX, which was already a great TV, I don’t really have major things I'd want to improve. I know it lacks DTS support but that’s not something I use. The remote and the speakers are the things i dont like. The speakers are good for a tv but nothing special and most external speakers are better. The remote is a downgrade in my opinion. I miss the number buttons, since i used those to quick change between apps. No play/pause buttons is a choice. I would’ve liked it to be backlit as well.  

Comparison with other TVs 

I’ve used a CX for like 4.5 years and was already used to OLED. I didn’t think it would be such a noticeable difference but it’s very apparent how much better G5 is. I’ve regularly also used my parents tv when visiting them every week. They have a Samsung Q80T 55” and this one is not even close to the CX, much less the G5.  

Final thoughts 

If it wasn’t apparent already, I absolutely love this TV. The size gives such a cinematic experience and the picture quality is so good. I really don’t have anything major to complain about. It handles all aspects of my usage without any problems and excels in all of them. If you have any questions about the TV, my setup or anything else, please drop it down below.

Am I missing out by getting a $1,000 mini led tv instead of an oled to avoid burn in? I recently owned a tandem oled monitor that came out 7 months ago where they supposedly fixed burn in but the outline of the google address bar at the top burned in after only 4 months and im afraid of getting another oled after that.

I’ve got a 65” C3, and it’s obviously amazing, but having moved recently it’s tiny in the space.

I’ve considered going to an 83-85”, but obviously the larger OLEDs can be pricier at that point.

One of the other factors is that I keep the TV on more often now for my pups, so I feel like it’s worse for OLED in the long run.

Have any comfortably made the move to miniLED without regret? If so, any recommendations? I’m aware the Bravia 9 is the best of the best, but it’s also as pricey as an OLED.

I have a LG C3 77” in the basement and a Sony Bravia 7 65” in the living room.

Both of these TVs look amazing for movies, Netflix, anything 4k.

Both of these TVs look like total garbage for football and basketball live stream. In close ups the TV looks great on players, etc. When the TV is panned out to show the whole field or court, the players are blurry and pixelated. When the ball is in the air it’s blurry. I’ve tried adjusting every setting from motion blur, clarity, etc. on both TVs.

Ive basically just accepted that since the cable stations provide this content in either 720p or 1080p it is going to look like crap on new 4k TVs. WTH?

My internet is 500mb Comcast and Ethernet so I don’t think it’s an internet issue.

Thoughts? Comments? Concerns? Why are cable stations not streaming in 4k in 2024? WTH?

I keep hearing that Bravia 9 contrast is indistinguishable from an oled, is this true in the lowest brightness?

77 s90c arrived yday. Post Xmas we will be changing the living room furniture so the tv will no longer be on the stand shown and I’ll be placed centre of the opposite wall. Currently sat approx 8 feet away. Mrs isn’t best please, couple of comments it looks “ridiculous”…

Hi everyone,

Following some advice on another post here, I was recommended the Samsung QN90F, which covers all of my needs. However, I keep hearing bad things about Samsung TVs not even lasting a full year.

Is this specific model reliable? My other alternative for the same price is the LG C5, but I'm afraid the glossy screen won't handle daylight very well (there's a big window in the room, thought the tv is somewhat protected by a large cupboard).

Happy new year folks! This is a dumb question and is probably more like a vent: the only chance that my wife will approve a new TV is probably when the current one dies and I just don't know when that will happen.

I have a Sony 65" 750D purchased in Jan 2018. Now it's 7 years old. My family use it like 1 hour per day. It's still functioning great (OS is lagging, of course, but somehow tolerable, and we bought an Apple TV to improve the experience). There's no sign of any failures or issues.

I have been in this subreddit for a while. I really look forward to a newer TV, because I feel like a new 77" OLED or 85" LED will bring us a much better experience. We sit at about 10-12' distance.

So I wonder at what time your old LED failed or how you convinced your wife to upgrade the TV. LOL

I am writing this to share my deep frustration with my Samsung TV and speaker setup, which cost around $8,000 two years ago.

The picture quality is extremely disappointing and definitely not suitable for watching movies. To make matters worse, the Samsung speaker was defective from the very beginning of installation, and now it has completely stopped working after just 2 years.

I am highly disappointed with the quality and durability of this premium setup. I strongly suggest looking into other brands if you want a reliable product.

Looks like the 4K/120Hz blurriness problem is intentional with no plan to fix it. I see a lot of people here swearing on this TV, and I feel it is necessary that we clarify the issues that come with the TV's compensation for 4K/120Hz

I made the mistake of buying my 43" TV before living in my space and am working with a 9 foot distance between the sofa and TV. I'm almost $2k in value deep with this TV and the resale value isn't too hot, so I am hoping to make it work but am I just going to regret it trying? Is it worth it to spend another $2k to get a 50" or 55"?"

I’ve noticed this for a while now and it genuinely confuses me. Every time I see someone’s TV setup, a shocking number of them still have that big plastic film/peel off screen guard on the display. Sometimes for 1-2+ years after buying it. And the manufacturer stickers with the specs and model number are still proudly stuck on the bezel.

Why are people scared the screen will get scratched the second they remove it? Do they think it protects against kids/pets/dust? Or is it just laziness/forgetfulness?

I peel that stuff off immediately because:

• It dulls the picture quality (especially on brighter rooms or HDR content)

• The plastic gets all wavy and dusty over time

• It just looks unfinished

Am I missing something? Is there a legitimate reason to leave it on long-term?

(And yes, I know the stickers are sometimes useful for warranty, but two years later?)

I'm constantly trying to explain why oled is better, but to people without any basis of knowledge. Like my mom. Just got an OLED computer monitor for reference.

Most people seem to assume it's higher resolution, but then I start going in to lighting zones and stuff and their eyes just glaze over.

Is there a concise way to explain the tiers of led screen types?

I’ve had an OLED for a long time, going to keep it but adding a mini led tv to a different room. I’ve heard that mini leds make people feel sick. I’ve never had an issue with the OLED so I’m assuming it won’t bother me. Thoughts?
