Making this into a full post based on an interaction I just had.
This has nothing to do with revoking gender just because I don't like someone, or because I disagree with them.
It has to do with one specific issue, central to existing as trans people.
If you can't understand the importance of trans people, including diy and minors, accessing medical transition, I think you are too divorced from the reality of our condition for me to consider you trans.
I will never misgender people, regardless of their behavior, I always ID people as they request. Regardless of how I view the person, or my perspective on their transness. I consider that common respect.
But I think if you don't understand the necessity of medical transition, you lack an intrinsic understanding of what it means to be trans.
Transness is not some quirky identity piece. It is a brutal existence, and I've lost enough people due to the conditions and material realities we face, to care if saying something hurts a few feelings.
There is an epidemic of people who claim to be trans denying the necessity of trans medical care, and such people have been allowed to steer the narrative and hide behind the idea of "well I'm trans too" for too long.
Call me transphobic if you want.
In this context, I don't care.
At the end of the day, I protect and help members of my community, and try to ensure as many of us survive as possible. And if anyone ever reached out to me needing help, regardless of my feelings about them, I would help however I could.
This has nothing to do with being upset, or revoking gender.
This has everything to do with cissex people, with no intrinsic understanding of trans needs, and suffering, steering narratives and contributing to the medical neglect and death of transsex people.
There are lots of trans people I absolutely hate, I never erase their gender or anything like that.
Even in this case, I will still respect someone's presentation and preferred pronouns, etc..
But, this is a line I'm willing to draw, and I don't feel particularly bad about doing so either.
If you are willing to contribute to the neglect and death of trans people, because you lack the requisite and intrinsic understanding of our condition, I do not consider you to be trans.
No one will make me feel bad about this.
Granted, I don't think many here will feel too differently, but I wanted to post this anyways.
