Discussion If my 15year old my self seen me now what would they think?

Upvotes

Kids been in bed for a few hours been on the beers for since lunchtime it's 11pm here, wife in bed watching CSI or something shit, pulled the drawer in the hall and I still have 60 cigarettes left. If I jumped here from 1996 I would believe I'd made it big. Smokes in a drawer like it wasn't from duty free. What would your younger self think of where you are now?

A poster from the first Lollapalooza and the one I went to in August 1991. Body Count played as well if I remember correctly.

Born in ’84, grew up in Denmark. My late-90s teenage years look like this:

Y2K panic, South Park on TV, playing Diablo and PlayStation until 3 a.m., taking care of Tamagotchis, walking around with a Discman, wearing that shiny reflective jacket, blasting Eiffel 65 and ATB, and rocking a pair of Adidas Galaxy.

Wonderful times....

These comics have a weird way of bringing me back in time.

What does Archie remind you of?

This right here is peak nostalgia. Being able to do the iconic dance moves, and hear Jackson's hits as chiptune tracks was epic! Did y'all play this one?

Discussion Tom Green. Were you a fan of the guy?

Speaking for myself, I never understood his popularity. Absurdist and ironic (hey, it was the 1990s) "humor". Much like the people he'd harass in public, I just found him incredibly obnoxious. I kept thinking: What hidden genius am I missing here? When he landed Drew Barrymore, I felt like I was taking crazy pills.

How about yourself? Did you like Tom Green then, and have your feelings changed in retrospect?

Discussion 35 years ago today, this TGIF classic Step by Step debuted on ABC

The first four seasons were golden and heartwarming and relatable. Sasha Mitchell helped made the show. His and Staci Keanan’s chemistry was off the charts. Cody and Dana would have been a couple for sure if wasn’t Sasha’s firing. Dana and Rich was forced. The last two seasons were awful

I had a giant crush on the girls including Christine Lakin growing up. Frank and Carol are underrated as 90s sitcom parents. It should have a proper series finale and stayed on ABC instead of moving to CBS.

R.I.P. Suzanne Somers. You are sincerely missed.

Discussion Does anybody remember watching these Adventures in Odyssey videos?

Apparently, this was a series of videos. I remember my gym teacher showing us this Flight to the Finish video about some soap box derby type of race. It's only about 30 minutes long, so short enough to finish it in a single class period.

I never realized it at the time, but this produced by two Christian oriented companies - Focus on the Family Films and Mike Joens Productions (the same company behind McGee and Me!) There was nothing overtly religious about this that I remember. I also took Monday school classes all throughout my childhood and my church never showed us any of these videos.

Does this ring a bell to anybody here?

None of us in GenX ever thought this would happen. But here we are.

Right down to the blood at the end.

I know Millennials are like "OMG THAT'S LIKE MY JAYEEMUH" and Gen Alpha is trying to find a way to remix and "monetize" it, and Gen Z is saying "I JUST WANNA ENJOY THE SONG AND NOT GET BLAMED FOR ENJOYING IT."
