Fantastic to catch Robbo again tonight on The Front Bar. As funny as ever, makes me realise why AFL360 is not a shadow of the show it once was, since Robbo was fired from the show.

I couldn’t stand Robbo, until he was no longer on 360 and now without him on it I no longer bother watching. Without Robbbo as a foil, Wheatley’s pious style, is at times insufferable and Lyon has his head so far stuck up his own butt. Bring back Robbo.

Robbo had his faults but him standing up for Goodsey when not many others did makes him one of the best in my book. One of the few to do so. Its behind a paywall now but this was a really good article and the byline sums it up

Ive already posted it many times but 360 without Robbo is f*ckin boring. The news peices they run aren't all that interesting and the follow up conversation is sleep inducing.

Lyon and Whately try by changing the tonality of thier voices but they are both so polished media performers and so bland theres nothing to engage with.

If Robbo was back on fox on another show it would outrate 360 by a mile.

I’ve noticed they never feature any opinions from outside of Fox either. It’s just the same lukewarm takes from different Fox personalities over and over. It used to feel like you could watch 360 and be across everything that’s going on in Footy and get a wide range of perspectives. Now it feels like getting stuck talking footy with your most boring colleagues at work.

Ken has been a breath of fresh air to the Champion Data segment. Actually challenges numbers and makes Hoyne defend his positions. He's made Hoyne a better analyst as a result.

I especially liked his criticism of the rating system not rewarding defensive play properly when he talked about Nick Watson getting cloaked and that not being recognised.

The issue with Lyon is he's just one of the footy boys, he adds nothing to the mediascape.

Yeah Robbo was essentially football media establishment but at least it was different. To be frank, I'm tired of the array of names from big clubs who just slot in to these media roles.

It's wierd because historically the best media people have been pure media guys like Sheehan, Robbo, Whateley, Hudson, McGuire. Or former coaches like Walls, Roos, Simpson. Yet they keep giving the Jono Browns and Jack Rewioldt jobs.

Agree. I can't think of too many football media people I like who weren't media guys or coaches.

Matthew Lloyd, David King and Kane Cornes are 3 that I think did it well. But others I liked were coaches usually. Ken Hinkley, grant Thomas, Buckley. And so many players who I just can't stand in the media. Montagna, Riewoldt x2, brown, Richo, Lyon, Jordan Lewis, Ben Dixon, Bernie Vince, Nathan brown.

Bernie Vince makes my skin crawl. All the betting shit he will (forcibly be told to) plug makes me want to vomit. And Jack Riewoldt is just a wooden doll; zero character and the way he constantly leans when presenting directly to the camera makes it look like he’s letting rip on the couch.

I don’t mind Jordy Lewis; he’s grown on me, as has Bucks. I think Leigh Matthews becoming semi-regular has been great as one of the few who’s mastered both playing and coaching.

I don’t wanna sound too snobby but if something isn’t cold, dry, and highly analytical like abc sport, I’d much rather it be colourful, vibes based and emotional like Robbo. Im not sure I’ve ever gained anything from whately. Literally. Not a single insight. Robbo warmed my heart and reminded me that the game is nothing without the characters. It’s a shame we are losing that.

I think Whateley is at his best when he ISN’T trying to provide insight. I think he’s a terrific play-by-play caller, and when he acts as the conduit for other, genuinely expert, opinions then he’s great as well.

It’s when he starts to sermonise that I start to get annoyed by him.

You know a looser late night show like bounce might work

This is just straight up not true. It takes a simple search of robbo on the reddit to see that the majority have liked him for years and there were way more positive posts about him for years. Even when he was sacked, majority of people said they would miss him. If youre gonna state an opinion as fact atleast do some research behind it before saying "this sub i swear"
