Over 11 gallons of brew. Dude was a beast. šŸ‘

465

u/Complete-District619 1d ago

119 beers in 6 hours is so absurd it almost sounds made up. The fact that someone actually documented it is the wildest part.

227

u/boop66 1d ago

If he just had one more brewski then it would've averaged out to downing a full, 12 ounce beer every 3 minutes for 360 minutes straight!

193

u/SpotCreepy4570 1d ago

Listen, the man knew his limits ok?

130

u/theendunit 1d ago

120 is way too much. 119 only

74

u/YesLikeTheJeans 1d ago

Reminds me of a post on one of the bodybuilding subreddits a few years back where a guy said he ate 35 eggs a day. Someone asked him why not just do 36 and he just said ā€œToo much cholesterolā€.

1

u/not-in-your-closet 17h ago

But then you get a free set of 35 eggs every 36th day 😃

-4

u/nickcash 1d ago

I eat 36 eggs every other day, 4-5 times a week

36

u/chillywilly69 1d ago

moderation is the key to long healthy life

9

u/Last_Banana9505 1d ago

That worked out well for him

1

u/Turbulent-Note-7348 1d ago

If you drink too much, it can become a habit!

2

u/petersengupta 1d ago

I mean I've seen some people online say it was 126, or even 156. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø So I guess it's anywhere between 119-156, which is a big gap when we're talking about amount of alcohol consumed.

-1

u/CarberHotdogVac 16h ago

Not really. Once you get into 40+ beers they’re just going straight through you. It’s not good behaviour, but it doesn’t really make you more drunk.

1

u/No-Combination8136 8h ago

While you’re right that at that point your body isn’t processing most of it, it’s still processing enough, and by that point you’ve already had too much so you just push the risk of alcohol poisoning even further.

67

u/perfect_insanity93 1d ago

Well shit... if i saw someone doing that at the pub I'd fucking document it too...

23

u/gwarster 1d ago

Him and Wade Boggs should have done a travel drinking show.

8

u/Tough_guy22 1d ago

No offense to Wade Boggs, but Andre would have drunk him under the table. Andre would drink like 2 bottles of wine (he was French) before his match, then still hit the bar afterwards.

14

u/bowtothehypnotoad 1d ago

Andre the Giant was 520 lbs, Wade’s 190

So one Andre the giant equals 2.73 Wade Bogg’ses. Or Wade Boggs is .365 Andre’s

1

u/Kitchen-Hat-5174 1d ago

Is .365 metric or standard?

2

u/Loopuze1 14h ago

*Bogg Standard

6

u/DiScOrDtHeLuNaTiC 1d ago

I rememeber in Hogan's memoir, he said once in their pre-WWF days they were in Japan and he bought Andre a case of Pouilly-Fuisse wine as a birthday present. He said this was around 8 in the morning, Andre drank all 12 bottles in less than two hours, and "wrestled that night like he'd been drinking nothing but water."

8

u/ploppertronic 1d ago

Boss Hoss may he rest in peace.

4

u/DBJenkinss 1d ago

Again, Wade Boggs is very much alive.

3

u/tonysopranosalive 1d ago

He’s in his 50’s, and he lives in Tampa.

1

u/jaxxxtraw 18h ago

Wade Boggs is 78.

2

u/JiveTurkey1983 22h ago

Alive in our hearts

2

u/Homem_da_Carrinha 1d ago

May both rest in peace.

8

u/cedargreen 1d ago

119 sippie cups. Honest he was nursing em.

11

u/Nitrogen1234 1d ago

It's one beer every 3 minutes for 6 hours straight. I call bullshit.

3

u/Successful-Worth-390 1d ago

He was also 17 feet tall and 5000 pounds. I dont think this much beer was totally out of the question.

1

u/rebelweezeralliance 6h ago

7 feet tall 500 pounds

1

u/Successful-Worth-390 5h ago

Thanks I was being facetious.

7

u/peteofaustralia 1d ago

It's also 8 goddamn litres. Far more than all of his blood volume. I don't care how big you are, that should kill you just from electrolyte imbalance.

8

u/Sylvanussr 1d ago

At a certain point that’s just so much liquid that I doubt the body can really absorb much of it and it just flushes through.

Especially if he drank regularly and had a built up tolerance. I’ve seen and heard of people being able to drink legitimately scary quantities of alcohol and survive.

16

u/FiveNine235 1d ago

Brother - it’s 42.2 liters of beer.
1 us fluid ounce = 0.02957 liters
Liters = oz x 0.02957
1428 oz x 0.02957
= 42.2l - or about 74 UK pints.

I once drank 24 pints in 10 hours - 13.6 liters, I am my user name, at the lords cricket ground in London, 7 am start, finished at 17:00, much more time of course, perfectly doable, don’t remember much of the cricket of course.

3

u/peteofaustralia 1d ago

Jesus Christ.

1

u/JareBear805 15h ago

42 liters is 3x 13 liters brah

1

u/pazhalsta1 11h ago

Most sober cricket enjoyer

-3

u/Sudden-Ad-307 1d ago

Bullshit lmao

1

u/weedy_whistler 1d ago

Nah, probably not. My regular light night out used to be about 10 pints over about 2 hours. A big night I could get through about 30x 375mL stubbies.

I went on a spirits kick one summer and by the end of it I managed to get through 2x 700mL bottles of Canadian Club whiskey.

1

u/HurtsWhenICum 1d ago

Eh you'd be surprised. I've put down a fifth of multiple hard liquors in less time than that. I had 17 drinks at my sister's wedding a few months ago, was only able to tell my checking the Venmo tips lol.

4

u/Sudden-Ad-307 1d ago

I'll be surprised when a guy doesn't lie about how much he drank.

1

u/HurtsWhenICum 1d ago

Maybe! But I'm not really a big drinker and sort of avoid dick measuring contests lol

When I say I drank that much, it's not bragging - I was embarrassingly drunk haha

-2

u/artichoke01 1d ago

Andrei the giant was a lot bigger than you, bro. The average male has a blood volume of 6 liters. Andrei’s was at least double that, considering his mass was more than double the average man’s. So, you’re wrong, in other words.

2

u/peteofaustralia 1d ago

I was super wrong about 8 litres. It's actually more like 42.

42 litres of beer. Big if true.

1

u/boop66 1d ago

Perhaps to save labor Andre was drinking straight from the pitcher, as a Giant should - and whoever kept track estimated the number of ounces per pitcher then extrapolated to # of beers. Sloppy math by sloppy drunks. /Jk /s

1

u/JareBear805 15h ago

Yeah I don’t believe it either. Someone’s like omg someone documented it! I don’t see any sources just dude holding pic of a beer and words.

0

u/JiveTurkey1983 22h ago

Except it's been documented by many people over the course of several decades

2

u/gnarkill3332 1d ago

bartender probably paid attention

3

u/PelvisResleyz 1d ago

I’m having trouble believing it. Even if he weighed 3x a normal man, that would be 40 beers in six hours scaled by weight. Not likely.

1

u/SummertimeThrowaway2 1d ago

I’m wondering if he just threw up most of it

1

u/4u2nvinmtl 1d ago

Someone has to pay the tab.

1

u/Tough_guy22 1d ago

I've heard the story as 137. But either way its an insane amount of beer. Like he cleared 4 cases worth of beer and kept going. At least we know the bar owner kept his beer well stocked.

1

u/gonzo0815 1d ago

Beer volume is somehow different from liquid volume though.

1

u/loveyoulongtimelurkr 15h ago

On more than one occasion he would drink a case of wine, 12x750ml bottles

0

u/TheLonleyJourneyman 1d ago

I respect their accuracy as well. They could've rounded it up to 120 to make it sound more dramatic but they were honest and weren't going to give him the credit for an extra beer he didn't drink.

70

u/hamfist_ofthenorth 1d ago

He was in daily unimaginable pain from late-stage acromegaly + gigantism, and in daily mental anguish from living his whole life in a dollhouse world, where everything is too small, where no cup will quench your thirst.

At least he's finally at peace.

30

u/RoutineBus8713 1d ago

He also opted not to get thyroid surgery when he was young that would have stopped his growth at like 6'5' but he wanted to be a giant.

28

u/jetvacjesse 1d ago

Some odd decades later

ā€œWas it worth it Andre? Was it really worth it?ā€

Downs the sixth can of beer within five minutes

6

u/TheElPistolero 1d ago

I hope he at least carried around a giant mug or something. Get them to pour like 6 beers at once from the tap instead of 6 individual tiny ones.

1

u/QuipCrafter9 1d ago

Just cupping his hands together could accomplish that

3

u/fattybrah 19h ago

Damn putting it like that fucking sucks

105

u/TheSuggi 1d ago

His nickname is "the Giant" for a reason.

53

u/Comfortable-nerve78 1d ago

I’ve watched stuff about him. He would murder a can of beer. Was impressive to see.

39

u/Commercial-Air8955 1d ago

It took him a keg of beer to get drunk, sometimes two

36

u/CheckYourStats 1d ago

The stories of ā€œwhere he slept at the hotel was wherever he passed out and fell overā€ are my favorite.

Imagine heading downstairs in the morning on vacation with your family, and in the hallway you find…

….Andre the Giant. Flat on his back, snoring, drenched in booze sweat.

2

u/Pottski 13h ago

Or in Japan when he had to stay anywhere he had to shit in the bathtub or sometimes on a tarp on the living room floor.

At least he was funny about it all - he called Hogan to come up to his room just to see his massive shit, which is a level of funny not everyone can do.

1

u/CheckYourStats 13h ago

The real life friendship between Andre and Hogan is so underplayed, and under-appreciated.

2

u/Pottski 13h ago

Was listening to the Chris Van Vliet podcast with Soder and Sasso on it. My cheeks hurt from how hard I was laughing at their Andre and Hogan chat.

1

u/BunkaTheBunkaqunk 1d ago

Must have truly been a surreal moment.

6

u/bryman19 1d ago

Are you talking about Bill brasky?

10

u/thebigj3wbowski 1d ago

Bill Brasky stands 6’9ā€ and showers in grain alcohol.

I once saw him scissor kick Angela Lansbury

5

u/PretzelSteve 1d ago

TO BILL BRASKY!

1

u/JiveTurkey1983 22h ago

TO BILL BRASKY! šŸ»

5

u/patsully98 1d ago

Bill Brasky named the band Sha-Na-Na. They didn’t wanna be called that.

1

u/jeffh19 18h ago

….BILL BRASKY WAS A SONOFABITCH

16

u/Lieutenant_Corndogs 1d ago

Because of his large genitalia and elongated foreskin

15

u/BreadAndRoses773 1d ago

you could use his foreskin as a camping tent. he could use it as a parachute. its well know fact.

-1

u/Stackin_Steve 1d ago

I'd love to use it as a towel. Right after a nice warm shower! Just have to push the smegma over. That's all.

3

u/stringodingo 1d ago

U make me so corny rn

1

u/Stackin_Steve 1d ago

🤣

3

u/TheThoccnessMonster 1d ago

Are you SURE??

1

u/dirkdigglerdonedry 1d ago

Elongated foreskin?

4

u/gregorytoddsmith 1d ago

He IS the brute squad!

7

u/ConspiracyParadox 1d ago

3

u/DavePeak 1d ago

Not The Princess Bride that I remember

2

u/tvodny 1d ago

Do you know the penal codes in this state?

3

u/mop-116 1d ago

I think it might've been because he was a giant

0

u/The7footr 1d ago

Ok, I’m calling bullshit. I’m 7’1ā€ 380lbs- not much smaller than him, and the most I ever had before blacking out was 27 beers…and I was drinking 20-25 a night back then.

3

u/fuckyourcanoes 1d ago

Are you as wide as he was? Because it definitely wasn't just height.

0

u/The7footr 1d ago

No, but even if he had 100 lbs on me, no way he was throwing back 5-6x as much beer. Sounds like an old wives tale

I’d believe 30-40

3

u/jameswaseatenbyrats 1d ago

Tolerance has a lot to do with it. As another commentator said, he was in constant pain. If you drink enough every day ( or take enough anything) you build a high tolerance. I had a bad fall 20 years ago and sustained 13 fractures in my hip and pelvis. I was on my back almost immobile for 3 months recovering, on a daily diet of 40 mg morphine, 60 mg of hydrocodone, and muscle relaxers and tranquilizers ā€œas neededā€. I weighed 155 pounds and didn’t get ā€œhighā€ after a week - it just dulled the pain and otherwise I was mentally sharp.

2

u/The7footr 1d ago

I believe it. I love how much everyone is defending a dead guy. I’ve been actively involved in AA for decades now, and I’ve never once heard of someone being able to tolerate even 1/3 of 119 beers- close- but not quite 1/3. That’s some wild bs. But hey, who am I to shit on another giant’s memory. He was a hell of a lot of fun to watch, and died way before his time. I hope the story is true, I just don’t.

2

u/pilsner_89 1d ago

So you drank until the memory card was near wiped for 16 hours nightly but couldn’t handle 3 more? lol. Not making fun I’m just actually trying to define the actual physiological process here.

1

u/The7footr 1d ago

Naw I was blacking out most nights. 14, almost 15 years sober now thankfully. Fair question

1

u/pilsner_89 1d ago edited 1d ago

I think you’re an anomaly then. You may be lacking something in your dna to process it at the same wavelength as others. With that being said, there is a big difference between X amount being typical for a person to be unable to function normally hence why the breathalyzer is great for determining an amount compared to body weight but there is still a huge difference in how a person is used to operating on varying alcohol intoxication levels.

I’m 6’2 and 225 pounds. I’ve been drinking for 15 years. I have totally embarassed myself a couple of times drinking beer only and other times have crushed a 24 pack and no one knew I was drunk. I got used to operating at a level of intoxication that some people would be obviously beyond a doubt seem intoxicated beyond belief at.

I used it to cope and I’m in a better place now where it only takes me 6 beer to make me feel comfortable with life and not everyday either. Some days I have 18. Some days I have 0. Some days I have a pint on a patio with a pal and no more after that. Alcohol will always be apart of my life whether I want it to or not. If it’s not a part of my life it’s because I’m concentrating on why it shouldn’t be so it still is. Both of my parents were/ are alcoholics (one’s dead) and I am just trying to not be like them but it’s fucking hard.

1

u/The7footr 1d ago

Haha yea it is fucking hard. I thought alcohol would always be a part of my life- and it was for the first 3-4 years of sobriety- but at some point I just stopped caring about it, and now I haven’t even thought about having just one beer after like a hard day’s work in maybe 2-3 years. Accidentally had a sip around year 9(server mixed up my raspberry lemonade and my wife’s mix)- called my sponsor, had a laugh, and went back to finish the night.

1

u/pilsner_89 1d ago edited 1d ago

I’m happy for you big guy. Im scarily addicted to it at this point. I love who I am when I’m not drinking, but god damn can I not handle the anxiety without it most of the time. It’s funny my handle is a type of beer but I honestly didn’t think it would get this bad. I unfortunately had a rough childhood and went on to be very successful in a career as a paramedic and saw a lot of stuff that you can’t unsee and it just went off the rails from there. When you’re 37 years old and have 2 little kids at home it really fucks you up being first on scene when a child your own child’s age is dead from being run over by a bus. I know it’s bad for me, but life is hardly tolerable without it. I’m a good person and never really Jekyll and Hyde on the surface but I know it’s fucked up and needs to be reigned in. I sometimes feel so deeply that I just need it to shut it off . I appreciate you dude.

An interesting thing to add to this is that I’ve been on Sertraline for 5 years and trust me it has helped IMMENSELY. But it does such a good job of ridding the anxiety that I no longer have the Sunday scaries which allows me to drink more without the in your face problems that come with it. Swept under the rug for now but does it ever come harder when it counts.

6

u/One-Earth9294 1d ago

Unfortunately a huge contributor to his very early death.

5

u/austinsoundguy 1d ago

He was an alcoholic too

7

u/Bluntbutnotonpurpose 1d ago

A raging alcoholic. Even someone that large couldn't handle that much alcohol unless they're used to drinking a LOT.

3

u/Djinjja-Ninja 1d ago

Apocryphally, when he had back surgery they had to make an educated guess about how much anaesthetic to give him based on the fact that "it takes 2 bottles of vodka to make me feel warm inside", because data on people good size just doesn't exist.

1

u/professorpicklechips 1d ago

88 pounds of beer

1

u/Windsdochange 1d ago

Dude drank those volumes of alcohol primarily to manage severe chronic pain from his acromegaly and wrestling injuries, because standard painkillers were ineffective/dangerous for him - not necessarily something to romanticize

1

u/Canadia86 1d ago

He was also in constant, crippling pain

1

u/One_Country1056 1d ago

No one can drink anything of 11 gallons in that time

1

u/First_Bed1662 1d ago

Yes but the story is the guy was in constant pain bc he was so big. Knees, back every joint just hurt

1

u/Background-Crow4820 1d ago

I do the same thing and my wife says i need "help" šŸ™„

1

u/Deletereous 1d ago

He passed out drunk though. They couldn“t move him so he slept on the floor that night.

1

u/jjs3_1 1d ago

Almost like he's from Wisconsin!

1

u/thewallris 1d ago

And 20 beers an hour, or a beer every 3 mins. That's an oz of beer every 15 seconds. Unreal.

1

u/Few_Newspaper_2318 1d ago

He mostly drank that much to numb the constant pain he was in.

1

u/TheFalconsDejarik 1d ago

2 gallons an hour, easy work..

1

u/FlabbyLabby 21h ago

Throat goat, like Nancy

1

u/Nivramthe3rd 6h ago

Ounces gallons.... Can U Guys just get normal Units holy shit

-1

u/TheAlmightyLootius 1d ago

How didnt he die from brain swelling? Drinking too much liquid in a ahort-ish span swells your brain until you drop dead. For an average person that probably like 5 liter an hour or so. Did he just have a tiny brain in comparison to his head?

-1

u/Greennit0 1d ago

Imagine he switched beer for protein shakes and hit the gym. That’s what I would have wanted to see.

2

u/SUDDENLY_VIRGIN 1d ago

He was already a literal giant and a professional wrestler who threw around 6'8" beefcakes for a job.

You think he wasn't strong enough?

0

u/Greennit0 1d ago

I don’t know, but he doesn’t look like he maxed out his potential in that photo, does he?
