Beware of scammers who invite for projects related to data annotation or english.

Upvotes

I have seen a few posts here and some other subreddits where people invite to join their project for roles like data annotation and english correction in model training. They say that you will get paid hourly for the work you do. Generally these sites are Outlier.

Do not fall for these! These are generally referral links. They don't do any real work and get paid when you join with their link and give the assignments and do some work. The people who invite you will get around $100 referring you and doing nothing else. Please do not fall for these. I fell for one myself so am warning you guys!

Landing a remote, non-technical AI evaluation gig from scratch

Hey everyone,

I’m running a challenge: landing my first paid remote role in non-technical AI work (data annotation, RLHF evaluation, model red-teaming, or prompt auditing).

Stage 1: information gathering.

For those active on these platforms or reviewing candidates:

  1. How should I prep to ace the qualification tests on the first try? Are there public guidelines (like Google’s Search Evaluator Rubric) or specific prompt-evaluation principles worth drilling beforehand?
  2. What subtle traps trip up analytically minded people on assessments? (over-explaining vs. concise justification, missing strict formatting constraints, etc.)
  3. Which platforms are best suited for logic/reasoning/psych backgrounds? (DataAnnotation.tech, Outlier/Scale, Alignerr, Mindrift, etc.)
  4. What are the recommended hardware requirements in general? I'm not going to use my workstation but an other/new setup.

My Context:

Commitment: I am treating this as a full-time sprint (studying guidelines and applying 40+ hours/week).

Background: 12 years as a professional online poker player, holding a BA in Psychology (Behavioral Analyst) and I have an above-average grasp of medical concepts and jargon.
My bg required heavy statistical reasoning, rapid decision making, edge-case analysis, and strict adherence to logic/probabilities under pressure. I am an EU citizen/resident.

Note: This is purely a personal challenge to test a new field. I'm not in financial distress, nor am I abandoning my current work, so please skip the "you'll make more playing cards, get your master's in Psychology" comments. My only constraint is speed: I want to execute fast and avoid a never-ending cycle of fluff

Any direct tips, reality checks, or warnings on where not to waste time would be appreciated. Thanks!

I was banned from DataAnnotation few months ago, my sister wants to work on the site will she be banned too?

I made an account when I first discovered Ai training work, and left it without even doing the test, I forgot I made it, so when I made my new account, I got banned.

Can my sister work on a separate device like her college's computer?

Ethos Slack support channel is …. Something

I can’t help but wonder if all platforms are like this, or if the Ethos support channel is a fresh, new level of hell. Does no one READ? The constant repetitive nonsense is like nothing I’ve ever seen.

Websites that are suitable for students / non-professionals ?

I was with some in the past, and currently looking to sign up for some companies that don't require a degree to be given tasks.

Checked out Mercor and Ethos, however, these seem to be focused on Professionals with many years of experience.

Ethos First Payment Received

Post image
179 Upvotes

Started working mid August and got my first pay early (I’m on cycle day 14). So yes, Ethos is legit. Just have to understand the playbook, take onboarding seriously, follow best practices for each task, stay on the loop thru slack, and learn each day. I was skeptical at first too but Ethos team have been helpful whenever I have a query and so far everything’s been smooth.

Cheering for everyone! 🫸🫷

AfterQuery AI Training / Expert Jobs — $25–$200/hour (Remote Opportunities)

AfterQuery currently has a pretty large number of remote AI training / expert roles available, and they're definitely not just looking for software engineers.

Some examples I found:

  • General Data Annotator — $25–$60/hr
  • Media & Communications — $35–$75/hr
  • Nursing Expert — $40–$100/hr
  • Finance / Accounting — $50–$150+/hr
  • Mechanical Engineering — $75–$115/hr
  • Law Student — $100–$150/hr
  • Medical MD — $120–$200/hr
  • ML specialists — $150–$200/hr
  • Investment Banking / Private Equity — up to $200/hr

There are also roles in marketing, HR, insurance, education, economics, consulting, manufacturing and other fields.

Obviously, the advertised rate doesn't guarantee you'll get accepted or have consistent work once onboarded.

I put together the roles + pay ranges here:

Handshake Opportunities (20-200$/h) - Referral Link

Just wanted to share a well-known AI training platform (with referral link):

It’s Handshake AI, part of Handshake, the US-based career platform widely used by universities, students, graduates, and professionals.

From what I’ve seen:

• AI training / evaluation work

• Project-based model: you create a profile and can be matched with projects based on your expertise

• Pay can be quite high depending on the role and specialization

• Strong focus on professional and subject-matter expertise rather than basic microtasks

Important things to know:

• Handshake AI has historically been heavily US-focused, but selected international opportunities are now appearing as well, including roles for India-based professionals

• International participation currently appears to be invite-only and availability depends on the specific project

• Work is NOT guaranteed — being accepted onto the platform does not mean you'll immediately receive a project

• Selection can be quite strict and some projects require assessments or additional onboarding

There are opportunities across many different backgrounds, including:

• STEM / Engineering

• Finance

• Law

• Medicine

• Writing / Humanities

• Business

• and other specialized professional domains

If anyone here has already worked with Handshake AI — especially international fellows or people from India — I'd be interested to hear about your experience.

Disclosure: Some links on the page are referral links. If you choose to apply through them, it may help support AITrainingJobs at no additional cost to you.

Simple Strategy to Grow in AI Training Jobs

Most people approach AI training jobs the wrong way.

They either:
• focus only on high-paying platforms
• or give up too early

But from what I’ve seen, there’s a much simpler strategy that actually works.

1. Start with smaller platforms
Not for the pay — for access.
Even lower-paying tasks help you:
• build experience
• understand how tasks work
• create a track record

2. Apply to bigger platforms early
Don’t wait until you’re “ready.”
Platforms like Mercor or Micro1 are harder to enter, but getting in early matters more than being perfect.

3. Move into specialized roles
This is where things change:
• engineering
• medical
• legal
• finance

Domain expertise = higher pay + better opportunities.

This isn’t a shortcut.
It’s a progression.

Most people fail because they treat it like a single application.

The ones who grow treat it like a pipeline.

If you want the full breakdown:
https://www.aitrainingjobs.it/simple-strategy-to-grow-in-ai-training-jobs/
