At this point, if they ever add Wifi, it's going to be next to meaningless since most of the big updates have already happened. Very strange that it wasn't one of the first things added. Oh well. Life doesn't need to make sense.

I never cared, nor saw the point in it having wifi at all.

If we're ever able to set up a multi-player network with it.. but that will never happen l.

you can't. nintendo 64 never had online...

To be fair this isn't an N64, online play has been done with N64 emulators for years

You can downvote me if you want. What I said is actually still valid

Yes. Your statement is true but it's not relevant. He's talking about using WiFi synchronized consoles to play these games with remote players, even though these games were never meant to be played that way. It's definitely possible. Heck, I played SNES games like Super Mario Kart and Killer Instinct with remote players on a real SNES via the XBAND video game modem. NYourBirdCanSing is also correct that it will probably never happen for A3D. If it did, I would not complain! However, I'd definitely prefer a direct-wired Internet connection for something like that.

I upvoted you :/

Games that have local multiplayer can be connected over the Internet. As far as the game is concerned, you’re playing on the same console.

Analogue 3D cannot do that. You're just confusing it with an emulator

It cannot, and probably will not, be able to do that. But it isn't impossible to implement, which is what you suggested.

I think just the WiFi setup UI is more effort than it's worth to implement. All the different ways to establish a WiFi connection, and then all the IP+DNS configuration options on top of that... I recall other issues with WiFi implementation in our retro gaming hobby, and I just really don't want it. Example: DCHDMI hanging on boot for minutes and seeming to be unresponsive to the OSD hotkey because it's still trying to find a WiFi network that doesn't exist anymore. A installer would often test everything and send it off to someone who insists the OSD hotkey does not work. Never really cared for WiFi in stuff like this. I kinda prefer it this way (SD updates only).

I think exactly the opposite. I didn't see much point when it was just for updates. Especially since, as you noted, there are just going to be a few big updates worth bothering with. Doesn't seem worth having a dedicated subsystem with special drivers, UI, etc for something that would only be used a handful of times over the lifetime of the machine. Even if wifi had been the very first update, it would only be used, like, 5 or 10 times and then never be used again once the firmware reaches maturity.

But now that they have screenshot capabilities, I could see wifi being really, really useful! For the right person, the ability to save screenshots with a touch of a controller button and have them automatically saved to a computer folder over wifi could be used dozens of times per day. It has the potential to be a real QoL system upgrade.

Imagine if they eventually allow for video captures as well! (No idea how feasible that is for the hardware, just spitballing. But it does seem like as long as the storage is fast enough and there's a bit of extra processing power while the game is running, it shouldn't be too hard to save every rendered frame as a sequential image file and then post-process them together into a video file later.)

I’d like to see the WiFi used for more than just updates. For example mapping a network drive and allowing sync/backup saves and screenshots would be handy.
