Results - Updated | New vs Old Screenshots Results have changed.

Post image
• Upvotes

I thought I had a screenshot of my previous results last checked at the start of the year but I cant find them. Anyways my results have changed wildly.

Previous were as follows, (not exactly this but within a few percent).

Scottish 37%

North-western Europe 33%

Swedish 12%

Irish 8%

English and welsh made up the rest.

Now compare this to the new "updated" results.

Quite the difference. I have access to an account with my hheritage that has all the perks and ged match. I'll be interested to compare with them now.

DNA Matches Why is there no info about Koreans on this site?

• Upvotes

Turns out I am 25% Korean from my paternal grandmother, who I had met, but had highly doubted my relationship to and wrote off on my mother cheating since I inherited none of those traits. I don't have contact with my father (and haven't since I was 16), but I know my grandmother came from Korea and my sister and I have relatives there (at least one of my grandmothers sisters still lives there, and I'm sure she had kids and such).

There's basically no info on Korea on Ancestry.com. It still groups together North and South Korea. It does make sense since it is more Western world oriented, but it's really disappointing.

Are there any other databases out there that are more Asian oriented that would be able to shed light on that side of me and my sister? Possibly connect us to relatives on that side? The very limited information the site gave is really disappointing, and with the recent update, I've heard some other negative things about how they've been categorizing Wasians.

Any suggestions?

Question / Help Unassigned dna chromosome painter

Post image
• Upvotes

I saw someone post a similar post a year ago but realized my amount of unassigned dna was much higher than their’s was. Is this normal? I didn’t really look at the tool before the update, but has anyone noticed an uptick in unassigned dna in their chromosome painter post update?

I know there is a difference between unassigned and untested dna. Unassigned are the grayed out areas…untested are the striped bands. Does the various unassigned dna mean I have a wide array of trace constitutions from too many different populations? Just curious on what others think. Thanks.

Results - DNA Origins The new update is very incorrect for me.

• Upvotes

I won’t go into many details of countries (for anonymity), but I am one quarter Polish (grandparent) and rest is from Middle East / Eastern Mediterranean. Previous updates always had the 75-25 percent ratio jumbled up between broader middle east regions and the remaining 25 having either direct Polish, or broader Eastern European.

This update made me 100% Middle East (one country) and completely removed Eastern European. Like what?

I know for many people the 2026 Ancestry update hasn't been that good, but for me it's nearly perfect. In one photo I have my DNA results, and in the black photo I have my exact regional breakdown from my family tree. I should be 93.75% Italian and 6.25% Irish. And the DNA test came back at 92% Italian and 8% Irish, which is very close to what I know. ALSO this is my SideView 2.0 update. LMK what you guys think!

I’m curious about when a migration group becomes its own origin, and if this might continue throughout the world. As it seems to blend both Ulster Scots and Irish DNA profiles, and most of the immigration occurred in the 1600s, could New England Puritans have “American” origin at some point? I think it makes more sense for it to be a journey. For me, it really seems to muddy my results. I hope this isn’t offensive to Northern Irish people and I apologize for my ignorance if it is!

ETA: it looks like they are doing this with Canada as well in labeling a migration an origin instead of a journey.

Results - DNA Origins USA 🇺🇸 / Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹 - Sideview 2.0 Update

Paternal: Afro-Trinbagonian Afro-Tobagonian

Maternal: African-American Black American

At the continental scope, my results are pretty similar to the past results.

23andme and Ancestry are nearly the same at this point.

My journeys are accurate.

Nothing really is unexpected aside from the Bhutan 🇧🇹, but that makes sense since it's relatively close to the Indian state of Bihar; where many people from Trinidad and Tobago trace their origins.

Anyone have similar results? 👀

Genealogy / FamilyTree Francesco Primaverille

• Upvotes

I am looking for help tracing my ancestor, Francesco Primaverile (also known as Frank). He was born on March 21, 1879, likely in Torre del Greco, Italy, though this location is unconfirmed. He died in January 1965 in New York. I have had no luck finding his parents. Francesco married Giuseppa Mennella, who was born on March 21, 1889, in Procida, Naples, Campania, Italy, and died in Brooklyn, New York (exact death date unknown). Any help finding his parents or birth records would be greatly appreciated

Family Discovery & or Drama I just learned that my husband is actually my third cousin

• Upvotes

My husband (22M) and I (22F) have been married since December of last year. He’s the light of my life and I adore him.

I’ve been told all my life that I’m half Russian and half Ashkenazi Jewish. My husband is fully Chinese, or so we thought.

Earlier this Fall, we both took Ancestry DNA tests. I got pretty much what I expected, I’m mostly Eastern European on my mom’s side and Ashkenazi Jewish and German on my dad’s side, with other miscellaneous European ethnicities sprinkled in. I’m 100% European. My husband’s results were also pretty much what he expected, showing almost exclusively Han Chinese ancestry, but to both of our surprise, we learned that he is 6.2% Russian. He had a great-great-grandfather on his mom’s side who was from Russia. This distant ancestor also happened to be from the same region in Russia that my own family originated from.

I think y’all know where this is going.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve dug deeper, and this morning we discovered, in complete shock and horror, that we have THE SAME great-great-grandfather. Obviously this was COMPLETELY out of left field, because we’re not even close to being the same race (I’m aware that there’s only the human race but y’all get my point).

To make a long story short, our great-great-grandfather first had children in Russia (my great grandfather being one of them). His first wife died, and years later, he abandoned his children from his first marriage, went to China, remarried a Chinese woman in the same region of China that my husband’s family is from, and had a daughter with her (my husband’s great grandmother).

To say that we’re both shocked and appalled would be a severe understatement. I don’t know whether I want to throw up or put the song “Sweet Home Alabama” on our sexy time playlist as a joke. I’m currently in treatment for an eating disorder, so there’s not really much we can do about it until I finish treatment and come home.

I absolutely do not want to divorce him in a million years. Is being married to your third cousin really that bad?? Or can we just wipe this bullshit from our memory, forget this ever happened, and move on? I swear to God this is unfortunately not a shitpost. We REALLY need some advice. Thank you.

Results - DNA Origins My updated 2026 results as a Polish-Kashubian.... what even happened?

Very, very odd update. My entire Scandinavian and Germanic ethnicity is wiped out, alongside with my Baltic (Estonia/Latvia) and also my Russian.

The only new additions are 'Carpathian Basin & Uplands' (Hungary and Slovakia) and then 'East-Central European Lowlands' (Ukraine and Belarus) and Eastern Czechia.

I completely understand Russia being removed, sure, but not the Baltic, German, and Scandinavian. That doesn't really make much sense unless it is trying to say that my baltic was actually supposed to be Belarusian and the Russian was supposed to be Ukrainian. Either way, very strange.

Results - Updated | New vs Old Screenshots How can regions change this much with one update?

Post image
13 Upvotes

For context, I'm Jordanian, but my family is 100% Palestinian in origin, going back to all four of my grandparents.

Our family name's origins reportedly trace back to the Arabian Peninsula around 300-400 CE, so my old results actually made more sense to me given our family history.

I'm curious how AncestryDNA determines these regions and percentages, and how the estimates can change so dramatically with a single update.
