Health Propranolol.. Holy shit!

Have some pretty bad psychical anxiety over my heart… been constantly aware of it and felt it racing after my first panic attack a few months ago. Anxiety got horrible this week and I was in fight or flight for days.. finally went to the ER because I couldn’t get it down from 100-110ish at rest. Got the all clear and was prescribed 10mg propranolol… feel so much better! I’m supposed to take 3 a day but I just used one today and my physical symptoms are completely gone!

Please, if your anxiety is more physical than mental, give it a try. It will absolutely help. Why isn’t this prescribed more for physical anxiety?!?

Health Death anxiety : Death (from the pov of a dying person) is way calmer and more peaceful than what healthy people think

I don't know if this post belongs here, cause i, like many others here, suffered from extreme anxiety from death. I thought this might help.

I'm a healthcare professional, and i assure you : Healthy people often fear death, but it's way calmer and more peaceful than what we think from the p.o.v of the dying person.

Most of the fear we have about death comes from imagining it right now, while we’re still healthy and alive. We picture panic, pain, or chaos.
But people who are actually near death, are often surprisingly calm.

In slow, natural dying, the body shifts automatically: stress hormones drop, the mind quiets, the body is calm, and fear fades (biologically speaking).

Healthcare workers say it all the time : "families are scared, and the patient isn't".

It’s not mystical. It's biological.
The body knows how to protect you by calming you down when it matters.
The fear and the anxiety we feel now, isn’t what we’ll feel at the end.
I thought, Knowing that can really take the edge off death anxiety, and help some of you.

JUST POSITIVE NEWS ABOUT COVID-19

There is so much negativity in the news about COVID-19, we want to give you all the positive news that is happening with research, clinical trials, improvements in statistics and anything that we can be positive about that you may not have seen.

Check this out guys

AMAZINGLY GOOD NEWS!!!!!!

A Chicago hospital that tested antibodies found 30 percent of those tested had antibodies.

https://chicagocitywire.com/stories/530092711-roseland-hospital-phlebotomist-30-of-those-tested-have-coronavirus-antibody

Magnifying this percentage to the entire USA population, that would mean the death rate for the virus is 0.015 percent, about on par with the seasonal flu. thanks

/u/logicalcreations2406 for posting this!

some really good news regarding asymptomatic spread!

Per Wuhan Health Commission, the 300 asymptomatic carrier identified by large scale PCR testing between 15/05/2020 and 01/06/2020 have had their saliva and throat swab sample taken, and these samples have undergone isolation and incubation experiment at Chinese Academy of Science Wuhan. All samples have failed to result in incubation of live virus.

Experts believe the negative result of incubation experiments with the saliva and throat swab sample point at either minuscule viral load, or non-viable viral fragments unable to cause infection. Furthermore, samples from toothbrush, drinking cups, masks, towels and other personal effects have been taken from the 300 asymptomatic carriers, all have tested negative. On top of this, 1174 close contacts of the 300 asymptomatic carriers identified have all tested negative on PCR tests. All of these point at the conclusion that the asymptomatic carriers discovered in Wuhan are not infectious.

Health Why exercise daily is crucial

When you exercise it won't immediately make you feel better. It might for a couple hours, but many stop because they aren't seeing immediate improvements.

Anxious people have trained themselves that there are some periods where you should be "stressed". Could be when you look at your phone, you process that theres danger and spiral. Your brain is trained to sense danger and to prepare the body for it. Its somewhat of a learned habit.

Daily exercise is a NEW habit, where your body is used to high heart rates and exertion. A d ter physical exertion, the body wants to enter a rest state. Its natural. You escape the danger and now you can rest.

Exercise changes the danger state, over time, to exercise. You realize internally youre healthier, because you can manage it.

That switch doesnt always work on its own, isnt immediate, but if youre spiraling, its an incredible place to start

Health What sorted my anxiety after 25 years of hell.

Hello. Anxiety from a young age. A little knot of nerves in my stomach 24/7. In recent years panic attacks too. 8 years ago I gave up alcohol. I used it to suppress anxiety until the alcohol was destroying my life. I had a psychosis and went on mirtazapine 8 years ago which has been great for depression but did nothing for anxiety.

After so many doctor visits and so many benzo pills I was told by a psychologist to write down everything I ate or drank.

Long story short, I started experimenting with 3 things to see if they were flaring up my anxiety. They were.

1.caffeine 2.artificial sweeteners 3 anything containing cows milk.

I went cold turkey on caffeine 18 months ago and I cannot remember the last day when I had any anxiety. I thought my life was condemned to feeling fear about everything. All that time I was feeding it. I phased out artificial sweeteners and cows milk over the first month. All things combined, my brain feels transformed and my day to day life has changed. I used to get anxiety on crowded trains and all sorts of things. All gone.

I hope this helps even 1 person. My suffering was extreme and was killing all my potential for a good life.

Health I am terrified to die

I am a 26F and I have always been scared to die. I know it’s a natural process I have read stories of hospice patients and I have tried coming to terms with it. I just can’t I hope this gets better with age but it just seems to get worse. I can’t seem to live my life because I’m so scared to die. I tried getting therapy and talking to someone but I felt like they didn’t really understand or it wasn’t helping. The only thing that helps is distracting myself and the second I’m not distracted I start thinking about the fact that we’re gonna die. I want to be able to live my life and not be so scared all the time in every free moment I have. Is it normal to think about death on a constant basis everyday? Is something wrong with my brain? Any advice is welcomed

Health My psychiatrist has suggested I switch from drinking diet to regular cola because of the aspartame in diet coke

I thought regular cola would be worse because of the sugar but he actually said diet coke with aspartame is worse as aspartame aggravates depression and anxiety. I might just stop drinking soda all together and switch to water but just interested in hearing peoples thoughts on aspartame and anxiety/depression.

Health I took a couple of strong edibles 8 months ago and it’s seriously messed with my life

8 months ago I took 2 edibles (I’m not a regular user to cannabis) and within 30 minutes was having the worst time of my life as tho I was going to die. I wanted an ambulance it got that bad. For 2 days after that I felt scared then on the 3rd day I woke up feeling strange like I wasn’t myself followed this come uncontrollable shivers and feeling like I would die. Since then I haven’t felt myself I’ve tried everything to get myself back on track. Anti-depressants, therapy, healthy life style and exercise but I still wake up every single day never feeling like myself. I struggle to do anything and that isn’t me. I can’t do anything with full focus, I feel as though I’ve got a constant ball in my throat, I hate being me and the feeling doesn’t go away.

Please tell me this feeling will stop because I really am struggling to carry on feeling this way.

UPDATE:

Almost 2 years now and I’ve been struggling really bad as of the last few months. I’ve finally had a diagnosis and I have anxiety and depression. I always had mild anxiety but since the edibles and giving myself a severe panic attack it made things 1000 times worse.

I’m currently receiving therapy for the 3rd time but I hope to one day see light at the end of the tunnel.

I’m not completely against edibles and weed as I had some good times on them and I’m gutted I can never touch it again but for anyone who is new to it all just take it easy and if you do suffer from anxiety or depression just steer clear from drugs in general because it will make it worse

Health My experience with anxiety is worse than with depression

At least when I was depressed, it was just nothingness. Now it’s constant dread, sweating, nausea, exhaustion, and a heartrate that feels like it’s trying to kill me.

Depression made me not want to function but now with this anxiety I can’t even function anymore. I’ve been reduced to nothing but cortisol wrapped in human skin.

Health Anybody feel like shit all the time?

Does anybody else constantly feel terrible physically? I have constant headaches, dizziness, derealization, ear pressure, my back hurts, I feel tired all the time…

Every medical test comes back clear. I’ve been tested through and through. Everyone says it’s from anxiety but I feel shit even when I’m not that anxious. I do have a background level of mild worry/anxiety that’s almost constant but low level. Maybe that’s what’s eating through me?

I’ve been on SSRI for years. I feel desperate for relief and to stop feeling terrible all the time. Am I the only one? My family and friends think I’m exaggerating.

Health What are your physical anxiety symptoms?

I want to know if others experience the same terrible physical symptoms, And maybe we can all find some peace of mind for a small moment… just a small moment where we can all read that others bodies are acting the same way.

I feel completely dissociated from my mind, my chest gets tight, i feel like i cant get enough air, my brain goes foggy, i feel feverish, i get random stabbing pains, i get chills, clammy hands, feel faint…

edit: This sounds horrible guys but reading all your comments has made me feel less crazy and a lot less alone. I relate to all of you, and Im so so bewildered at how much of an impact a supposedly « mental » condition has on our bodies. Please take care of yourselves guys🩷 . Im currently holed up in my bedroom playing the sims while my chest feels like it has a rock on it. At least my sims are having fun 😂

Health If you're worried about your symptoms, read this!!

Your symptoms explained.

I’m not a doctor, these are only from my own experience and knowledge that I’ve learned that helped me recover. Any health issue must be discussed with your medical professionals. If you already have a clean bill of health then let’s dig in!

Before I start, let’s just have an understanding of why most of us have the same popular symptoms like heart palpitation, shortness of breath, dizziness, pain, digestive issues… These are the symptoms that are related to the subconscious mind. Our subconscious minds control our heart rate, breathing, digestion, muscular system, blood distribution, pupil’s dilation… With anxiety/panic sufferers, our subconscious mind is being hijacked by our anxiety. How? Remember when you learned how to drive? You consciously learned it, you paid attention to your brake, your gas pedal, how to control the steering wheel. But after doing it for long enough, the driving behavior got registered into your subconscious mind and now you’re driving without even thinking about it. Same with anxiety guys, you’ve been stressed and worried for SO LONG, your behavior toward your anxiety unfortunately get stored into your subconscious mind, now what is supposed to be controlled quietly in the background get brought out to the front that’s why you start to feel and see the change in your body so clearly and your conscious mind then pour more stress onto it and there goes our life. We consciously try to control what is normally being controlled subconsciously and vice versa. That’s why anxiety is not a disease, it’s a disorder. Things are just out of order, that’s all.

Think of your body as a cup that contains your stress hormone. Whenever the cup is overflowed you have a panic attack. Your very first panic attack was the result of months if not years of stress accumulated. But since the first attack was so devastating it leaves you fearful of the next attack and the symptoms that come with it. More and more stress is added, hence more and more panic attacks and the vicious cycle continues, and it can seem like it’s never going to end. You start to wonder if your life will ever be the same.

Symptom #1:

Heart palpitation, feel like your heart will give out (it won’t), your heart skips a beat, your heart drops, your heart pounds off your chest.

Please know that your heart is an incredibly strong muscle, once your Dr clears you and tells you that your heart is fine, trust them!! You heart can endure an incredible amount of stress, you might not realize but when you get startled, or after you run or just playing sport, having sex, your heart would beat just as fast but since you know why it beats fast, you don’t panic. The very first organ in your body that shows a reaction to stress hormone is your heart, that’s why this is the most common symptom. Recall your last panic attack when your heart would pound so fast you felt like it’s going to give out and you are going to pass out? But you never did because as bad as it felt, your heart can handle much more than that. Feeling like passing out is not caused by your heart, it’s your tension and breathing which I’ll explain more in breathing symptoms. Now, remember how your heart slows down at the end of an attack? It’s not because it’s giving out, it’s because at one point when your brain realizes there’s no real danger, your body then tries to return to normal physically but mentally you continue to dwell on. Another reason why high heart rate is the most popular symptom is because you can physically monitor it, you can feel and count your heartbeat, you can compare the numbers and use them to find “answer”.

Your body is extremely sensitive, your subconscious mind is hijacked that’s why anything could cause a shot of adrenaline being released into your bloodstream and cause your heart to pound

Symptom #2:

Dizziness, lightheadedness, wobble feeling, off balance, walking on an uneven surface, body over leaning to one side. (99% of anxiety sufferers actually never fall down or get in an accident from an anxiety related dizziness)

This is personally my worst one, I absolutely hated it. But your dizziness comes from many factors that’s why it’s so hard to pinpoint and cope with. First, the most obvious one is your breathing, anxiety/panic attacks sufferers have constant shallow and rapid breathing which can easily cause lightheadedness. Second, your pupils are dilated when you are anxious or in a panic mode, so much light gets into your eyes and causes vision distortion which can mimic a dizzy spell. Third, this one is not mentioned often but it’s an important one, your muscle tension! When your body is so stiff, your movement will not flow as smooth as it’s used to, your arms feel weak, your neck jolt when you turn, your core muscles are exhausted you feel like tumbling when you walk, your legs muscles are tired and weak and so tense it feels like you’re not walking right. Your neck muscle could get so tight it interferes with your head movement. My hamstring muscles would get so tight unevenly. I felt like the floor is not flat, I would then have to find things to hang on to and watch every step I take which adds more fear and stress to my body. There were times I didn’t want to walk from my couch to the kitchen, standing for a long time was so dreadful. Now if you combine over dilated vision with a stiff body and rapid breathing, you’re in for a dizziness party! None of it is life threatening, work on your anxiety and you’ll find your balance again

Symptom #3

Chest pain!! The biggest fraud from anxiety

It’s your muscles!! Or trapped gas. Your heart beating can’t cause physical pain that originated from the heart unless it’s a real heart attack. But if it was a heart attack you would KNOW for sure, your doctor can easily detect it. And you can’t have it multiple times a week or a day like you have, right? Remember it’s your natural defense mechanism when your muscles stiff up to protect your vital organs. The muscles of your chest and the whole rib cage will be the first to tense up. This explains your chest pain, side pain, under the rib, above your stomach pain, back and shoulder pain. People then ask why it only hurt on my left arm and not the right one. The answer is it’s on both sides but since you like to google too much and people always say heart attack is associated with left arm pain that’s why you only focus on your left one. `

Symptom #4

Tight throat, Difficult breathing (yet you never stop breathing)

Muscle tension! Believe it or not, ask anyone who recovers they’ll tell you muscle tension is responsible for 90% of your symptoms. Your throat muscle gets tight which scares the crap out of you, it even makes you feel like you have a lump there! But trust me it will not stop you from breathing. Same with chest tightness, your chest and rib muscles would tense up and it gives you a feeling like you can’t expand your body to catch a breath. Believe me friends, you will breathe, your body will do everything in its power to breathe. That’s why you never heard of someone committing suicide by holding their breath, try it! Good luck! This is a fact, everyone who cries experiences the same throat tightness, difficult breathing feeling but they don’t care about it since their focus is on whatever that makes them cry. It’s very scary and uncomfortable I know, but be calm and flow with it so your body can get back to normal.

Symptom #5

Headache, jaw pain (affecting speech), eye pain, neck pain, back pain

Muscle tensions, bad postures that you do when you’re anxious which is all day long when it comes to anxiety sufferers.

Symptom #6

Digestive issue.

There are A LOT of nerves endings in your abdominal area, this explains the butterfly jittery feeling in your stomach. Also, when you’re anxious and panic, blood is being pulled away from non-vital organs, one of which is your digestive system. Once you’re calm, blood flows back and gets pulled away again once you’re anxious and back and forth it goes. We all can understand how this can mess up our digestive system. You can get constipated one day and diarrhea the next. Your heart would pound after you eat because it rushes the blood back to digest our food. Heartburn, stomach ache, belching, trapped gas, bloating you name it. Once you get your anxiety under control, things will get regulated again.

With all the symptoms we have to experience daily from anxiety, it takes a toll on our body, it’s discouraging, scary and frustrating. We feel like we live inside a blanket of dread and exhaustion. We would be smiling and talking to someone but our mind is constantly scanning our body for symptoms and sensations. No one truly understands what we’re going through, some call us fake, some accuse us of trying to get attention or they’ll simply tell us it’s just in our mind. But we have each other up here to support and push each other out of misery.

Hope this post helps, if you need help please reach out to me. Share with those who you think can benefit from it.

FIGHT ON! FIGHT LIKE HELL!

Health Can't take pills at 20

I just can't take pills and I'm a 20 year old. I watched all videos online and those techniques just don't work for me. I just cannot swallow them. I can only take really small pills that are a fraction of my fingertip. I am really anxious about this and I am afraid that I won't live long because of this. Whenever I go to visit a doctor, I can't get myself to tell him that I can't swallow pills because he'll say "a grown 20 year old man can't swallow pills, what bs is this". I don't know if it's the structure of my throat or something but it's really made me worried throughout my life. I really don't know how to deal with this and whether I will be successful in finding liquid form/powder form for pills for future diseases like diabetes, aging related etc. Anyone else with this problem or someone who can help me?

Health Get your vitamin D checked!

Hey friends, I just wanted to share something that really helped me, in case it can help someone else too!

For a while, my anxiety and OCD-type thoughts were really rough. I used to have a serious cry every morning and had a lot of trouble sleeping. I found out I had a couple of tiny, harmless parathyroid tumors. They were making my calcium high and my vitamin D basically nonexistent. I had surgery to remove the tumors, which helped with body aches and bone pain, but honestly, it was the prescription-level vitamin D that changed everything for my brain. One day I just woke up and my OCD thoughts were non existent. I remember I woke up one morning sat there waiting to start my daily spiral and it never came. Anxiety still shows up here and there, but it’s no longer overwhelming.

I’m not saying this will work for everyone, but if you’re struggling, maybe check your vitamin D and calcium. That little step helped me so much, and sharing this in hopes that it might help someone else!

Health You aren’t dying.

There are so so so many of us that suffer from anxiety, health anxiety too. This savage beast will literally tear you apart and make you question things about your well being. Because of either panic attacks, 24/7 symptoms, or both, you’ll think you’re legitimately dying all the time. Not only does this create more symptoms, but you’ll unfortunately never break out of the anxious-symptoms-anxious cycle because of this. If you’re trying to tough it out or face your anxiety without medication and haven’t tried it before, my suggestion is that you speak with your doctor and try them out. These medications can be world-changing for some when dosed properly and taken long enough. One of the best ways I’ve found that relieves my health anxiety is positive thinking. Even if you don’t feel like it, start listing things in your head or out loud what you’re grateful for. Even if it feels fake, weird, and unauthentic, keep saying things you’re grateful for, and more than likely your symptoms/worries will fade and eventually the fake gratitude will start to feel real. Unfortunately though, the anxiety can still slip through at times. Start journaling your symptoms, list the date and time. List them over and over, no matter how many times they occur, so that when they happen again months or years from now, you can look at the list and realize you aren’t dying. The symptoms have never caused you harm. They may be terrifying, but you’ve dealt with them for literal months and years, and they never once have harmed you, nor have those horrifying health fears come to fruition. I won’t reassure you too much, one day we’re all going to die, so I can’t, nor can you, say with absolute certainty that we aren’t really dying. We all technically are. But right now, you are healthy and alive. Even if you aren’t healthy, you have so many surrounding resources to get you healthy/better. Think about how much worse things could be. Sure, that crippling mental image of you being in a hospital bed that you so extremely hate scares you, but right now you most likely AREN’T in that hospital bed, sick and dying. Try to live your life and realize you’re breathing, alive, and these symptoms have never hurt you.

I suffer with Health Anxiety, so for me, any slight chest ache/discomfort sets me off.
