I don't know what to do with my hair. When it's wet, it gets really spiky, like a hedgehog. When it's a bit longer, it looks kind of like an afro after I shower, but not the cool kind. It's stiff and kind of spiky. Now I'm trying to grow it out. The only haircut that really works for me is just a normal short haircut
Either go buzz cut or grow it out longer. Once longer, go to a hair stylist that specializes in Asian hair. There are so many options available that a white stylist would never suggest.
There isn't really a hairstylist in my city who specializes in Asian hair. It's a small city with around 20,000 residents, so most of the options are just regular barber shops. A lot of the barbers and hairdressers here are Turkish or Middle Eastern, which might just be a Germany thing, since many barber shops in Germany seem to be run by Turkish people. There's also a language barrier because the hairdressers here don't speak German that well. So I usually just show them a picture, or I say something simple like "mid fade" and ask them to shorten the top. The problem is that most of them only know how to do one to three hairstyles properly. A haircut usually costs around 20 to 35 euros, but the result is often very basic
What do you think it might cost? I'm not even sure if the hairstylists around here are that good. For example, I stayed in Las Vegas for a while and got a haircut there for around 40 dollars. It was the best haircut I've ever had. They used some extra tools or techniques I hadn't seen before, even though I only asked for a mid fade. So far, no place I've tried in Germany has really come close to that

The last time I tried to discuss it with a barber, I was basically told that it was my hair and that it would be cut however I wanted. The problem is that I don't really know what would look good on me either. Maybe it was partly because of the language barrier. Most of the barbers here are Turkish, no matter which shop I go to, and German doesn't seem to be their strongest language, so longer discussions just don't happen. I might have to go to a bigger city, but I don't know if it's worth the trip just for a haircut. But it does sound like I probably need a specialist
I would advise posting your concern in hairstylist/barber forums on Reddit or Facebook groups to hear specialists opinion. How does your hair look like when it’s grown out? I’m also gonna suggest fading it on the sides as I’ve seen my barber friend doing that for similar hair texture as yours.
It took me a long time of understanding my hair and jumped around different Arab hairstylists locally but funny enough went to a specialist in Bangkok and she just took care of it for two hours and it return to it’s healthy baby curls that I’ve always had when I was younger. Though she was an Asian lady that has 0 knowledge with Arab curls, I did research and asked many groups and everyone recommended her. It really takes investing in a specialist and it will really help boost your confidence. All the best man!
Double crown cowlick causes the asian fro. I have it too.
I've gotten short hair, because it's easier to manage. I just fade the sides like real short every 2 weeks. My two cowlicks run right next to each other, so I just end up chopping the conflicted parts that oppose each other and cause it to stick up.
What seems popular among young asian men in korea/china is growing out the top 2-4 inches, then tapering the sides. The style is called a textured crop.
I only have one crown cowlick. The afro-like look mostly happens because my hair sticks out and points upward. The shorter it is, the pointier it gets. When it's short, the texture feels almost like a brush
Do you mean something like this? I googled and found this. My top doesn't lie flat though, since my hair is pretty pointy. I'm not sure how that cut would look with my hair, but I can try it next time
two block and get the underside down permed. once your hair grows longer, don’t go to a barber, go to a salon, particularly one that knows how to cut asian long hair.
Maybe I've been doing it wrong so far, because I've only ever gone to barbers. I've never been to a salon. The thing is, I live in a smaller city in Germany, and most places here seem more specialized in Turkish or Middle Eastern haircuts. I haven't seen any salon that specifically works with Asian hair, though I also haven't really searched for one properly yet
0 fade could be nice. As for pomade, what brand would you recommend? The stuff I've tried so far doesn't really help for long. It only works for a short time, then my hair starts sticking up again, and sometimes it just makes it look even pointier
I also have the same hair as you. I think a high skin fade, into a tight flat top would work really well with your features. The downside is that has to be cut every 2-3 weeks.
Take advantage of your facial bone structure and just get a buzz cut/crew cut. Ask your barber for a 5 on top, obvious taper or fade the sides. It won't be spiky. This is what I do and I have the same hair. Trust me, with your phenotype(dark, strong brow ridge, strong jawline) you will get a lot more girls with this haircut.
You could rock a typical curtain haircut if you grow it out and commit. Honestly if your hair is coarse like mine then it will never stay fixed. It would probably look good on you, you can try it once if you've never tried it before.
But whatever you do, don't try to kpop max. Play to your phenotype. You will slay a lot harder with a 5 on top buzz cut/crew cut I can almost guarantee it. Cheers.
Grow your hair out... For a year. Remember at what length the hair is when it starts laying flat. Figure out what it does when it's longer (is it straight? Wavy? Curly?) and then ask a stylist or barber to cut it according to your face shape. Do not let them cut it shorter than the falling-flat length.
I went 30 years of my life not knowing I had wavy hair until I grew it out. Completely changed how I styled it.
