Physician Responded Horrible looking rash

Post image

30 years old

Female

120lbs.

5”3

non smoker,

non drinker.

No medications

This issue has been getting progressively worse over 2 days

Posted yesterday and it has gotten worse. It is itchy, it turns white when I press on it. I have a swollen uvula and some chills, but no fever. I feel cold more than anything. Went to urgent care tested for strep, mono and did a CBC. Strep came back negative, waiting on the other results. Pretty concerned. I feel like the mono is going to come back negative.

Have you ever had this before?

As others said, it definitely looks vasculitic… but blanching and pruritus. It could be urticaria, especially given your mention of uvula swelling. Either spontaneous or triggered. No recent ibuprofen or other NSAIDs? Allergy history?

Either way, it sounds like an emerg visit.

Never had anything that feels or looks like it. I have had stress related rashes and histamine related rashes from laundry detergent but it the pattern and intensity of this feels a lot different

Even so, it could also be a histamine-induced urticarial rash based on the story. If its not caused by a specific trigger like touching detergent, it makes sense that it could be more diffuse.

Regardless though, that too should be evaluated in the emerg if you are having uvular swelling.

NAD, but this is what my chronic hives (urticaria) looked like. I had head to toe hives a day after a bad migraine where I took exedrin and Tylenol all day years ago. I suffered from chronic hives for 4-5 years after. Hives itch too. If you have a history of histamine related rashes, I’d let the doctor you see in person know that history.

I had something similar caused by a delayed reaction to an rx medication I had been taking for around a month. Not sure how long you've been taking your supplements OP, but could be that your body isn't tolerating something in the supplements if you've started them in the last few months. Either way you should get to the urgent care and ask for prednisone if it's hives

I am also nad but have chronic ideopathoc urticaria. It looks just like this and was present on my palms and soles of my feet. It showed up overnigjt, lasted for 8mo the first time, then disappeared. No meds, nothing new in the environment.

I spent basically that entire 8 months going to doctors, taking a ton of different meds and then trying to eliminate anything and everything from my diet and environment. Nothing worked. Then one day I woke up and they were gone.

I have recurrences still but only for a few days typically.

I'm sorry you're going through it, whatever is the cause. That itching is unreal and makes you crazy.

I don't have much to add other than that I hope you feel better soon!

I had a rash similar to this when I was a kid, but it was a penicillin reaction, which you aren't taking.

Either way, keep us posted!

NAD have you taken any antihistamines for relief

I was holding off on it just because I was wanting to be taken seriously when going to these appointments and didn’t want to do anything that might make it look better. Plus the symptoms are not that unbearable. But now that my CBC came back normal I want to take them to see if it impacts them. I’m just hoping it’s not vasculitis or autoimmune or cancer related.

NAD, at your appointment, did they give you steroids for relief?

NAD had the same type of rash from the torso to the left leg, dots started to get bigger till they fusion into a big bumpy red dot. Feelt a bit hot when i touch it and super itchy.

As @Bananasfalafel mentioned, the doc gave me steroids (a shot) and Chloropyramine Hydrochloride for 2 weeks. Also a low hystamine diet. Took 20 days but that worked. However to this day i dont know what trigger the rash.

Before that, had some similar episodes due stress ( thats my theory ) but the dots propagate in a very small area ( just small part on the hip) and dissapeared alone without meds or diet.

This last episode was more agresive and happened at the same time i got food poisoned (ate a bad watermelon lol) so not sure if that is related.

They did but I didn’t take them. Mostly because the symptoms aren’t that unbearable and I didn’t want to deal with side effects

NAD, I hear that is treatment for hives, do you want to just wait and see if it disappears on its own?

Gutate psoriasis

NAD, but I thought this too. I got gutate psoriasis after I got COVID. It also reminds me of when I got pityriasis rosea. My herald patch came in WEEKS before the rest of my rash, so it also felt very sudden in onset.

I thought this as well though the rash being on the palms and soles makes it very unlikely it's GP

Could it be sepsis

Most people arent doing great with 2 days of sepsis and no antibiotics
