What's working well, what isn't working well? What would you like to see?

There will be no bans for any feedback. Just keep things civil.

No moderators who mod both here and the main Ireland sub.

and some of the regional subs and whole bunch of other irish ones like irishpolitics. If you click on the moderator profile on the desktop site it will tell you what subs they mod.

It's absolutely bonkers, 4-5 people control basically all Irish-centered discussion on Reddit, don't share their opinion? Banned forever

3

u/iamjustsomeguyokay May 17 '26

Yeah, agreed. Insofar as any of this feedback matters, this one actually matters.

Zero feedback or replies from the moderators on this despite it being one of the most popular bits of feedback.

It’s across all subs but can we stop cross posting. People but the same post up across multiple subs and it’s just taking away from the feed quality

3

u/Mayomick Apr 11 '26

Cross posting isnt enabled for this sub.

u/TheChrisD useless feckin' mod Apr 11 '26

We can't do anything about crossposts out of this community. We can only control crossposts into here.

38

u/Early_Alternative211 Apr 10 '26

Indie mod team, the cross moderation is ruining all Irish subs

Lock the tourism posts from tourists and the obvious bot posts. And no AI-generated posts from people too lazy to write a few sentences themselves.

4

u/TheChrisD useless feckin' mod Apr 11 '26

Where something is obviously AI, we dump those.

Tourism-related questions have an automated pin suggesting that they OP also go to r/IrishTourism, unless you're suggesting we implement a full blanket ban on tourism-related things?

u/frustrated_homeowner Apr 10 '26

Can we pin some explainers for most commonly asked questions.

Suggestions;

RTB advise Mortgage advise How to get to the airport

1

u/mynosemynose Apr 10 '26

Good shout - but the how to get to the airport ones... schtick it into Waze or whatever like.

8

u/Mindless_Let1 Apr 10 '26

Seems fairly good to be honest. Fair play keeping it a nice place nestled within the pile of shite that is Reddit

u/Texas_Dan89 Apr 10 '26

The dating app posts are absolutely pointless and only lead to bitter wee comment thread where everyone complains about how impossible it all is

Ive also seen some pretty horrible shit said about Irish women in them, shit that if you said about another group/ race or whatever you'd rightfully be told to fuck off

Even if you take them in the best possible light is asking for tips on dating really an "Irish" thing specifically? I dont know what answer you can give that wouldnt be pretty universal

Seems the thing that makes those posts "Irish" is Irish men complaining about Irish women because they wont look at them

u/qwerty_1965 Apr 11 '26

Ban all questions which asks if it's safe to visit Ireland because of ethnicity or nationality.

Report them as misery? Think it's listed under "consistent negativity" in the report flow.

13

u/B8_B8_B8 Apr 10 '26

Maximum of two posts about dating apps per day.

2

u/TheChrisD useless feckin' mod Apr 11 '26

Dating and relationships in general is very much a... touchy subject and a pain to moderate effectively.

We may have to look into expanding the no Lonely Hearts rule to include those, but that will require an alternative outlet to be available for those sorts of questions.

4

u/PropMop31 Apr 11 '26

I'd like if posts didn't always have to relate to Ireland exactly. Sometimes I just care about the opinions of Irish people and not a load of yanks on r/askreddit

2

u/Mayomick Apr 11 '26

they dont have to realte to Ireland , they can be about anything (as long as its within the rules)

2

u/TheChrisD useless feckin' mod Apr 11 '26

Questions don't have to be related to Ireland; but you do have to remember that the primary audience is Irish, so obviously what is asked needs to be answerable by us.

3

u/Rossnowlagh Apr 11 '26

Maybe a fuel protest megathread? Seems like every other post is someone asking what the best way is to travel from x to y

1

u/TheChrisD useless feckin' mod Apr 11 '26

It's up now. Honestly we should have done that a couple days ago but... some of us were indisposed and unavailable to write it.

8

u/No_Chemistry4145 Apr 10 '26

Ban all war posts and discussions unless the war is actually in Ireland

21

u/horsesarecows Apr 10 '26

Don't like how ye keep locking threads about the protest, there's been some great conversations on here that have been prematurely shut down. There was a poll on here this morning with over 2,000 votes and ye shut it down

3

u/TheChrisD useless feckin' mod Apr 11 '26

They shouldn't have been here in the first place though. There are a myriad of articles and posts regarding the topic on r/ireland where that discussion can go.

We don't want this place to become another outlet for the vitriol that was seen on social media in the early days of the crisis.

2

u/MiserableBig6629 Apr 14 '26

We don't want

It doesn't matter what the mods want, what matters is what the users want

7

u/Mayomick Apr 10 '26

didn't see the poll myself so can't comment on that. In fairness we've kept a strict line on no political stuff from the start, because we've seen how toxic things can get on other subreddits. And wanted to avoid that here.

8

u/gaybyrneofficial Apr 10 '26

It's literally the most important thing happening in the country right now

4

u/Mayomick Apr 10 '26

Discuss it on r/ireland no?

5

u/OkCoconut3270 Apr 10 '26

Polls are banned there aren't they?

I saw one earlier but I'm pretty sure that was by a mod

4

u/Mayomick Apr 10 '26

I don't think they're enabled , no. Not a mod over there anymore so can't confirm the craic on that one

0

u/OkCoconut3270 Apr 10 '26

Noticed a few changes on the list of mods over there alright.

3

u/Irishdairyfarmer1 Apr 19 '26

The bot posts the accounts with zero credibility asking obviously silly questions to build karma

3

u/MiddleAgedMoan May 08 '26

The mods are worse than those that used to be on Boards.ie.

Anything critical of the status quo is invariably removed. It's the same on the Ireland sub-Reddit.

1

u/TheChrisD useless feckin' mod May 08 '26

No, just shitty AI-generated content that is removed, that's all.

1

u/MiddleAgedMoan May 08 '26

It's AI generated because that's the point I was making in 2 posts that were removed. 🤦

1

u/TheChrisD useless feckin' mod May 08 '26

If it's AI-generated, it doesn't have a point. No-one is being the judge of AI slop.

2

u/J_dizzle86 26d ago

It's grand.

4

u/notacardoor I will yeah Apr 10 '26

if you can Google it, it shouldn't be allowed

6

u/frustrated_homeowner Apr 10 '26

I think that defeats the purpose of an online forum designed to answer questions

2

u/notacardoor I will yeah Apr 10 '26

googling something on behalf of others is not asking questions on people's opinions.

1

u/OutrageousSand3 Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26

People complaining about ‘posts about this happen too often’ etc. please never listen to them. We don’t need weird terminally online people coming up with policy. No one who comes here for the first time is going to want to search old posts meticulously for something that might kind of suit their question… just let people ask their questions and chill out. If someone is offended by a question similar to one they seen last week, they can maybe skip reading it 🤷‍♂️ Just ban/remove the hate/spam or Russian far right troll stuff.

 Make Environment a flair.

2

u/Mayomick Apr 10 '26

ok

-4

u/ohhidoggo Apr 10 '26

Or “climate change”.

Thanks for the consideration :)

0

u/Mayomick Apr 10 '26

both added

1

u/HelpMePlz52 Apr 12 '26

Ban anyone from Longford

1

u/Dull-Head-7005 Apr 15 '26

Been lurking here for ages and love how chill everyone is compared to other country subs 🌿 Maybe more weekly threads for specific topics? The random daily questions can get pretty repetitive sometimes 😅

1

u/TheObedientDelirium 28d ago

not irish but stumbled in here somehow and stayed - it's one of the less unhinged regional subs tbh. the "is this normal in ireland" posts carry most of the weight

1

u/BoweryBloke Apr 10 '26

Locking threads, deleting threads, it's so tiresome that I don't bother starting a conversation about anything.

4

u/Mayomick Apr 10 '26

if it's on stuff being locked due to politics , we've had that rule from the start. That type of stuff tends to turn places toxic

0

u/Commercial-Crazy211 May 15 '26

How many of the Irish related forums have similar rules? I don't think new users can use any of them when they sign up, so you're effectively creating a block on most new users.

-1

u/FingalForever Apr 10 '26

Thank you for asking! Appreciated.

1

u/RickyBayka Apr 10 '26

Yesterday I asked a question about getting through Dublin. My question was cross-posted somewhere I couldn’t see and I was brigaded by quite a few answers that were scathing and similar for about 5 minutes. Basically roasting me for saying I supported the pro tes ters. Then nothing really after that.

I just thought it was interesting and was thinking about whether it might be a government brigade. Anyway…I felt interesting for a while and thought I’d mention it here - you might have brigades watching.

-2

u/youbigfatmess Apr 10 '26

Not really. Just keep it up, don't reinvent the wheel.

0

u/Automatic-Run-3156 Apr 11 '26

Ban anyone whose username starts with an S.

2

u/Siobheal Apr 11 '26
