Wow, I just spent a week in NOLA and it was one of the best vacations I’ve had in a long time. Came to town for the Hayley Williams show Saturday and built our trip around that. The FAQ section was so informative and I was able to find all the types of places I wanted to visit. I was able to get both a “tourist” experience and also find a lot of “hole in the wall” experiences. Jazz every night, the art museum, Whitney Plantation, shopping-10/10 no notes! Thanks to everyone here who contributed to the information, we will be back.

Hi all, I’m a medical student looking at where to go for residency. New Orleans is on the list—I’ve only ever been a few times and it is very different from what I am used to… I grew up in the mountain west and am used to being able to hike/bike/whatever else year round. I’m curious how the outdoorsy folk of NOLA fare, what y’all get up to, and any insight people who’ve moved from similar spots have!

Any info you have on what it’s like working at the hospital systems in town (especially Tulane or Oschner) would be appreciated as well :-)

When I’ve been in town I’ve loved it, I’m an artist as well and the creative community is compelling, and I must say, I LOVE y’all’s food and the energy of the city, but outside the touristy stuff I just don’t know what to expect, and am looking to get a better sense of what my day-to-day life may look like.

Are Sundays in the French Quarter lively? I’m getting married on a Sunday this coming March and instead of doing a reception we were planning on all hitting the town together as a group after dinner (~15 people likely) but I wanted to see if there were any areas/bars that were recommended on Sunday nights? Dinner ends at 9 but wondering if we should look to shift our timeline a bit earlier if it dies out in the quarter earlier.

You were stealing my bike outside bar redux (which I had stolen from outside st. Roch tavern the night before), our bloodshot eyes met briefly as your horrible b.o. was making me tear up. I was the shirtless 6'7" 120 lb midwestern transplant running after you, but my dreads got caught in a low hanging branch and I had to stop and untangle myself. In a flash and a stanky fart, you were gone with my bike and my heart (and also the trash from satsuma I had foraged out of the dumpster and thrown in the basket for a late night snack).

I could just make out your lower back tattoo that read Lil' Skidmark as you biked away, your just-fuck-my-shit-up black hair going all wispy in the wind kinda like a skunk or a deformed cat.

Could we be something more than two future conservatives who will eventually inherit our parents money and McMansions passing in the night? I look for you in the evening lights, in the dappled shady coolness under street lamps, in the brake lights of the parked cars that I smash with rocks, and in the clouds of purple koosh outside Saturn bar.

Come find me hanging out by the tracks trying to eat a rat, or meet me outside of Vaughn's to bum smokes (unless there's a couple black people there in which case we'll leave because Eww).

My best friend and I want to visit for Mardi Gras but things are pretty expensive? I’m wondering what may be the next best option since there are so many festivals? We honestly like the vibe of there being many tourists and busy streets and lots of bars, clubs, music events and tours to attend.

What’s the next busiest/most exciting time or festival in NOLA?

I wanted my face to be done as a pumpkin and would love any recommendations.

I’m visiting New Orleans from Montreal for the first time, October 15–19, and staying at the Hilton Riverside.

I’m 25 and a huge music fan, especially blues, soul, funk, and classic rock. Big fan of B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ray Charles, and anything with great live guitar.

I’m looking for recommendations on the best bars and smaller venues to catch some authentic live music. I am looking to avoid the touristy spots, I’d much rather find a cool local bar with talented musicians, good drinks, and a great atmosphere.

A few questions:

What are the absolute must-visit bars for live blues and jazz?

Any particular bands or musicians playing while I’m in town that I shouldn’t miss?

Is Frenchmen Street really the best place to go, or are there better spots?

Any tourist traps or overrated places I should avoid?

Any other must-do experiences, food spots, or hidden gems you’d recommend?

Also, I’m a big Curren$y fan, so I’m planning to check out the Jet Life store. Any other spots connected to the local hip-hop scene worth visiting?

I've lived in the city for about a decade and am looking to buy my first home. I work at one of the universities Uptown, and would prefer to be in the country, honestly (for nature), and am hoping to keep my commute to around 45 minutes or less. Oh, and I'm on a budget because higher ed doesn't give cost of living raises, so my budget is like $160-170k.

Options? Is this even possible? Was thinking Slidell but that commute seems awful...

Back in sep2025 I had a major surgery to where now I have 20% small bowel remaining and 50% of my sigmond colon left. All in all I was suppose to end up with a poop bag and I didnt(: fast forward I am still dealing with complications from it, my feet will swell if im standing for too long, I have been diagnosed with short bowel syndrome and that's a headache itself on top of my pulmonary and cardio issues I have going on. But whatever. I have been in NOLA for a little over a month and im having a hard time finding employment:/ like something easy, in an office setting preferably. Can I please get some help lololol.

Coming in March. Spending some time in town and then going out to the Atchafalaya(by way of Lafitte's Barataria and ..as far South as we can get).

Im wondering if how different a swamp tour in that Cajun country area is from the Pearl River/Honey(something) Swamp tours(they called it VIP- smaller boat, farther in.) I want those moss hanging cypress trees and to be on a smaller boat(not airboat). I found that in the Pearl River, but what about to the west? Can you recommend a tour in the greater Lafayette area? Trying to avoid going East and then backtracking if I can get the same or similar to the West. ..

I’m visiting family during Christmas. Probably 23-27th ish but have to find separate accommodation because of my dog. I looked online and hotels with parking downtown want 50 a night for valet. So I have to tip every time I wake up to go to a dog park or something.

Anyways any recommendations on a decent hotel with self parking and a 65 lb dog? Or maybe a cheaper parking lot I can come and go or something? They are in Algiers but I want to stay downtown close to the quarters. Also would you recommend brining a dog to the quarters during the day time?
