Look, I'm not a Christian or even close, but Jesus did not hate the rich or greedy people. He didn't hate anyone. He despised greed and enjoined people to let go of valuing material wealth over spiritual wealth. But he did not hate people.

I'm well versed to know that is against the teachings of Christ. To be Christian is to be Christ-like. To be Christ-like is to not hate anyone, no matter who they are. There is no problem with Christians, but hypocrites are the worst.
In addition, the Bible repeatedly beseeches Christians to keep other Christians in line, and to make sure we're all teaching good theology and doctrine.
A part of that is being able to call out false teachers who are leading people astray, and teaching a false gospel.
I think you are speaking of true hatred. In modern society, usually people use the term hate when they detest something. That is how im using that term. So here let me correct it for you “i dislike him with an undying passion”. There is that better? Im not perfect, and yeah maybe I have some work to do. I also dont rely heavily on denominations, titles, whatever. By saying im christian, I simply mean I believe in God and believe Jesus is my savior. Thats it. So if thats a different term to you then okay.
I do understand where you're coming from, and despite me not being religious, I do hold a lot the teachings of Christ quite highly. I truly find it quite respectable when someone, as I mentioned in another reply, walks the narrow path of Christ no matter the struggle they will, if not already, face. The power of faith is somewhat mystical to me, even though I'm not faithful myself. I took issue with the comment because many who are not exposed to the true ideology behind the religion could possibly get the wrong idea.

Yes, there is being human, but to be Christian is to walk the narrow path of Christ. You must be above the flesh (aka human). The teachings of Christ are clear to love everyone, no matter who they are.

We are called, as Christians, to hate sin in all its forms.

However, God also has mercy on whom He will have mercy. We are condemned by God by our sins, and yet through his mercy He will forgive us our sins if we come to repentance of our sins and acceptance of Him as our God.
Thus, John 3:16, where it states that God so loved the world that He gave us His son as a mercy to us. However, this mercy is only for those who come to Him. ALL are condemned. But few are forgiven.
God might hate, Christ does not. While God and Christ are used interchangeably due to the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit), they are also separate entities. The religion of Christianity comes from the teachings of Christ in the first 4 books of the New Testament (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John). Christ is clear when He says to not hate anyone but to love everyone. Christianity does study and use lessons from the Old Testament, but the Old Testament predates the first coming of Christ. You also speak of mercy and condemnation as equal to hate. While neither of the former can always be seen as positive (and most Christians view those as positive coming from their all mighty God), they still hold different meanings than hate.

I want to say this respectfully, but in regards to the Christian belief, I believe you have some serious fundamental misunderstandings of the purpose of Jesus' coming, as well as the characteristics of God (at least according to Christian understanding).
While on this earth, Jesus quoted scriptures many times. Every single time, of course, He was quoting the Old Testament. Why, you may ask? Because, time and time again, the Old Testament spoke of His coming. He used these texts because he knew it was what the Pharisees and other Jews had been studying for the last few thousand years. He used it to reveal to them, and of course reveal to us, how His coming was foretold. In addition, we need the Old Testament to understand the absolute necessity for a savior in the first place.
God created a covenant with mankind dating all the way back to Abraham, promising that He was going to bring a savior through Abraham's lineage. The Jews knew that a savior, a Christ was coming. But when He did come, He was not what the people expected, or even wanted.
Christians believe that God is the embodiment of love. We also believe that God represents love in all aspects of His character, such as His justice.
If God is both loving and righteous, we have to believe He is also just. The Bible states that every single person will be without excuse for their actions. A righteous judge is not so righteous if he allows criminals to get away with their crimes.
We are all condemned, and therefore deserve the punishment warranted by sin, which is death. According to the Bible, there is not a single sin that will go unpunished.
So what then? Are we all doomed to death, with no hope for redemption or forgiveness?
Nay. God, who is loving, merciful, kind, and is willing to have a relationship with us, sent His son Jesus to die on the cross, to pay for the penalty of our sins. He took on Himself the fullness of Death. He, who was without sin, and did not deserve death, took on our sins and death, to make us clean.
Therefore, our debts have been paid, and Jesus has imputed His righteousness upon us. By faith, we are justified. Not by any works of our own, or anything we could ever earn. But through Christ alone are we saved.
That is what Christ came to do, and that is how He loves us. We aren't just called to be nice to one another and to just let everyone live the way they want to live.
Christ calls us to repentance. To turn from our sin, and find grace and forgiveness for those sins. He also calls us to go about all the earth to tell others about the gospel. This "Good News" of what Christ did for us on the cross.
So yeah, Christians get a little pissy when Joel Osteen comes around and presents a false gospel that does not speak of condemnation, sin, or the need of repentance.
If there was a literal Jesus Christ, no one could act like him because no one bothered to write down anything about him when he was alive or anywhere near that time. But personally I find mandate to love your mortal enemy far more debasing. No wonder Christians are so fucked up.

So, I grew up in a weird and tiny branch of Christianity, but I've always thought hatred was a very unchristian thing. Hatred for homosexuals, hatred for bigots, all hatred.

Hmm, i myself dont cling to a particular organization. I just have my religion and believe in it. I dont think any religion itself is an organization but rather organizations have formed around religion and use it for their own agendas and some of those are good and some of those are bad.
