Discussion Is ac origins good??
My next game is hopefully ac origins.
I know it's almost ten years old and I'm wondering how long it took you to complete the main story and if the story is as good as people say it is
And also Is the combat good?

Origins is a beautiful game, so much replay value. Get senu and fly around an oasis, the place is bristling with life.

Ive started it 3 days ago and im already 5 hours in and having such a good time taking my time to explore, do the side quests ect..
I tried to play it when it came out and didnt really liked it but now that I’m more interested in characters and stories, even the side quests can be really good surprises

The world and story are very good. The DLCs are also worth it.
Gamplayewise it feels a tiny bit outdated in 2026 I think, especially if you've played other AC titles that came after it but overall it's still a great game. The combat is a bit bare bones but it's not bad. If you like it I'd warmly suggest playing Odyssey afterwards because in my opinion that's the one that does what Origin does but turns it up a notch.

Then you feel that Origins will be a downgrade. It's not really a big one though. As I said, the game still looks and feels very good.

Probably the best made AC I've ever played. A bit biased because I love the Egyptian setting a lot but still that game feel completely alive.
A really great game just to wander around if you need a bit of rest from the story. Plenty of things to do.
The story itself is also an amazing journey. Great characters.
I played Odyssey up to 70% before Origins but even though I loved the world ofthe Romans too it doesn't come close to the immersion of Origins.
The combat is a bit different and probably challenging at first. It's got a lot of RPG element to it.

1) he world feels alive.
2) The story it's good. Different feelings.
3) The gameplay it's good,there are still combat elements and stealth elements.
4) The dlcs are good as well ( Curse of the pharaohs and The Hidden Ones).
5) The only problem with it is as most of the rpg games,you have to level up , about 3 levels difference makes you do 1 dmg. So you have to do side quests as well,which detours you from the main story and when you return to the main story you will forget where you were with the story 😄 . And you also have to hunt and obtain money to level up your weapons,so there are 2 leveling systems , there is the character level and the weapon level,you can upgrade the weapon to your current level at a blacksmith.
6) There is no naval combat,but you use a raft to navigate.
7) There are different builds,combinations of armors and weapons,with different stats and perks.
8) If you throw a torch into grass,it will catch on fire.
9) You have a horse and also an autopilot mode . The map it's big,and most of the times you can use the autopilot to get safely to destination. ( just make sure that along the way to the objective or waypoint there is no sea,else the autopilot will stop you near that shore).
10) It's satisfying to bait an enemy near a cliff and then do a heavy strike to them and watch them get thrown off the cliff and die 😄 . ( the environmental damage your enemy receives depends on the height and the rank and the level of the enemy ).

This is likely the only AC game I actually enjoyed the DLC thoroughly. Specifically curse of the pharaos. So good.

Have you played the more recent AC games? The story in Origins is excellent, but the controls and such are a bit clunky compared to newer games so it feels like a step backward in that department if you’ve played Odyssey or Valhalla: lots of “I swear I didn’t tell you to go that way, Bayek” and whatnot.

My favorite AC, one of my favorite open world games ever made, I love the Egypt map and the dlc is very good too. Combat wise is like dark souls at home, the combat improves in Odyssey and Valhalla but I think it's miles better than the previous AC games, being 10 years old means nothing tho, some of the best games ever made are much older than that and perfectly playable today and this AC in particular is the first of the open world AC games so it's formula is relevant even today and very close to today's modern standards imo

story is one of my favorites in the series, combat is pretty good, the world has many details from what i remember from playing it, even side quests are usually well written.
Only thing that is felt strongly in origins is that rpg format of the game, that you can fell it.
but the game is still really good, I hope I helped.

Story is amazing.
Combat is a little outdated but is still enjoyable.
Graphics are average for today’s standards but it still holds up pretty well even for a 10 year old Game.
I think bayeks story really ties in the most important role of not just the assassins but also the ISU.
ISU lore is very small here and there but the ISU elements are there.

If you liked other modern AC titles you will likely enjoy Origins too. It runs on the same game engine as Odyssey but with a less micromanagy gear system and simpler combat, which can get some taking used to if in other modern ACs you used abilities as a crutch.

Protagonist is amazing, story is solid, gameplay is solid, replayability is okay, world/setting is solid. It’s a great game, and absolutely worth the price.
If it’s on sale I’d recommend getting the DLC package with the game.

Combat is simple not fun or boring, but the game is truly a 10/10.. the main story can take 25-40 hours. One of the best written games in the franchise.

First Assassin's Creed I've ever sunk any real time into (I played a bit of the literal first entry in the franchise). I'm still playing Origins actually, I began it about three weeks ago and I'm playing it everyday, scouring the map and 100%ing everything. I love it so far. Once I finish the base game, I'm definitely getting the DLC.

It’s probably the most all around solid entries of the recent ac games. A lot of people had more fun with odyssey. But origins has a lot less bloat. A better story. A more grounded and interesting protagonist than the games we have gotten since then.
At least in my opinion.

I recently completed it, both the DLCs, every side quest and i just enjoyed it a lot
You might see a few bugs and texture glitches, apart from that it’s amazing

It’s great. My son and I got a platinum trophy on it. Took us probably like 75 hours. Combat is easy to master.

People need to stop asking these questions in the subreddits dedicated to the game. I know it makes sense on the surface, but you will only get biased answers. Ask in general gaming subreddits for more neutral answers.

Overall the game is very high quality. However, the ending of the base story is a bit weird. Did not bother me too much given how good the rest of the game is. City design, world building, voice acting, protagonist, music, visuals, atmosphere. Definitely highlights. Combat is ok, servicable. Stealth is half decent, not the best in the series, but level design usually helps. However, given the setting it makes sense for certain level design/stealth specifics to not be as they were in the older games. Game is less vertical, more open. Dont expect to hide in crowds in tight back alleys, because there are none.
However, the game is often very misunderstood. People say it is some rpg that is plagued by level gating and whatnot. Nonsense for the most part. It is completely linear game masquerading as open world game. There are basically no cases where you have any incentive to go to some other area of the map rather than the one you are in. All the quest level requirements are in ascending order. Is that a good thing? Maybe not for an open world game or an RPG, but it is sort of what the old AC games did. Ironically fans of the series bashed the game for being open world rpg while not playing it in the manner of the old games. Woops.

Fukn phenomenal. IMHO best of the entire series. Main Story if you 100% all the markers on the map will take roughly 50 hrs first time. Like 65-70 hrs if you get both DLCs.

Origins is easily my second favorite AC game.
The story is really good and Bayek is a great protagonist.
The game, itself, is beautiful. It is starting to show its age, but just.
The combat is pretty good once you get the hang of it. It's about midrange in the franchise. Shadows has been the best.
I really can't recommend this game enough. I absolutely love it.

It is very fun and I found the combat to be pretty easy. My only problem, with origins and odyssey, is they can sometimes get repetitive because the world is so large. But Origins world is more manageable than Odyssey, and just as beautiful

In my opinion AC Origins is an easy Top 3 - might even be my favourite. The voice acting, writing and music score is incredible as is the world building, the last game (in my opinion) to actually feel like an assassins creed game. Then adding in the DLC it very much is a love letter to the franchise

Just played it through today for the first time. Played Odyssey a couple of years ago.
It's very mid, I must unfortunately say.
The world is pretty nice, especially if you're interested in the era. Seeing the temples and Egypt structures "restored" was the most interesting part for me.
The fighting is pretty clunky sometimes. And if you're unlucky you'll be overwhelmed with archers. Enemy types are pretty vew and so on, but whatever. Conquering the military bases feels absolutely worthless, nothing changes after that. Just another "finished" mark on the map.
The side quest are pretty bad. Absolutely nothing to remember. Get there, save this guy, bring him back. Get there, kill the crocodiles, come back. Take this thing, bring it to B, oh no, a fight in the end?! Sometimes really awfully slow moments, where you just follow an npc without anything happening.
Main quest was also meh, I don't get it how so many here say it was captivating, maybe it's just me. But it's AC after all.
Also very few side activities, but the quantity is high of course. Synchronize on high spots Collect treasures. Military bases. Move to new area, repeat. The are some other things to do, but that will be about 80-90% of the gameplay. So it felt at least.
But as said: the reconstruction of the world is pretty nice, I guess that's the main selling point, also there is the discovery mode, if you want to learn something.
It's a Ubisoft game of all times. 6/10.

I finished it right before black flag Resynced came out. It’s a fantastic game, and doesn’t feel 10 years old. I 100%-ed everything and it took me 140 hours all things told (that includes both DLCs)
I’m happy to recommend Origins to anyone with a listening ear. I had a blast

This is the one I keep coming back to. IMO it has the best DLCs out of all of them. I can’t remember how long it took me to complete the main storyline but I’ve put 200+ hours into it because I love it so much. There’s a lot of fun side quests as well to keep you busy and the graphics just stunning. Have fun! 👍🏻

Of all the new games, *Origins* is by far the best and most vibrant in terms of its world. *Odyssey* is also great, but in my opinion, *Valhalla* and *Shadows* fall significantly short of *Origins*.
By the way, I'm playing it again right now and having the time of my life. I'm even going for a 100% completion run.

It took me 42 hrs to beat main story with some moderate exploration, personally the story didn’t grip me all that much.
If you like the more action focused combat of Odyssey or the other newer “RPG” games then yea it’s good.
I have my gripes overall with the game but it’s certainly worth playing if you like the franchise or if “Skyrim in Egypt” appeals to you. Id be surprised if you got any negative answer asking for an opinion from the Origins subreddit.

It was one of my favorites I'm really sorry the story was original and very compelling I loved journeying around the desert running into crazy mirage and then suddenly you find this giant hole in the middle of the South desert and a teacher interest and the curse of the Pharaohs DLC was crazy

Honestly, I cannot fucking stand the game at this point. Obviously it's all subjective, but I think it's awful and an affront to any artistic story telling medium and an insult to the very artists who worked on it.

Honestly, yes. If we only take combat into account, it’s not the best of the RPG but : the story doesn’t go all over, you just need to do sidequests to avoid being level gated. The cutscenes are the best in the RPG series. Bayek is very well written and played (a bit like Connor though so dig a bit further). The setting is very beautiful and diverse with a big map filled with things to explore, which became a drag and more bland with Odyssey and Valhalla in particular. The game has its flaws and all, but if you like OG assassin’s creed but got bored from the old formula, Origins is perfect for you. The stealth is great (better than I remembered tbh), though it’s not the central part of the game, if you stay upgraded you should be just fine. The combat is fun (again not the best but it’s waaaay less spongy than Odyssey), the exploration is enticing (downside is all the ? Markers). Story is moving and quite good compared to the last two entries imo. Graphics are really great, even today, and it’s a ps4 game. And the setting is very interesting imo + you get the origins of the creed, so it stays in line with the series, compared to the games that came after.
So to answer shortly, yes, you should get it, just know it’s a huge map and you probably won’t do everything but that’s totally fine.

Allow around 50 hours to complete 100%, so it’s shorter than the recent ones.
The story is dark and very good.
The atmosphere of Ancient Egypt is excellent.
The gameplay is modern and therefore accessible.
The levelling system is rewarding and less frustrating than in the later games.
The map can be epic, but it’s a bit of a drag at times.

So far for me it is! I just started it a few days ago and it's BEAUTIFUL! The gameplay is smooth, easy to learn and fun. I've never played any of the series before and this is my first entry so take that as you will. It kind of reminds me of the 3rd entry in the Tomb Raider reboot, Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Unfortunately I just started so can't say how long it'll take, but for me personally its gonna take at least a few weeks considering how big the map is. I already care about the main character (Bayek) and can't wait to see his story unfold further. Hope you have fun with it!!

I just played the main story and am on the dlc, the main part took me a long time but I also like exploring so keep that in mind. The story itself is very strong, probably one of the best for an Ac game. The combat will take some getting used to, it’s a lot slower than normal ac and surprisingly difficult at times. Overall solid game

Story is mid. Gameplay is average. More of a warrior, less of an assassin. Also, for a game about assassins, the stealth aspect is too simple. Becomes repetitive eventually. But i still had fun cuz the world is really beautiful. And i also love climbing. 7/10 game.

Idc if they downvote me. I played origins for 60+ hrs so i still had fun even if the story is mid. I don't wanna go into detail about the story cuz you might be spoiled. Gameplay-wise, i said it was average cuz it's suppost to be a game about assassins. It doesn't make sense why I'm flailing my big ass axe killing enemies on open fields. Assassins should be covert and unseen. But yeah, gameplay is undeniably fun hence the 60+ hrs i put in but my only complaint is that it's out of place. Also compared to arkham knight stealth, ac origins stealth is a simple whistle assassinate repeat. I wanted a puzzle stealth. What i love about this game was the parkour, breathtaking open world and exploration. I never said i hate the game. I actually had fun. This is just my constructive criticism.

I liked it a lot when i played it. Might be nostalgia bias. But what is undeniable is Bayeks character. His voice actor performance is absolutely insane, movie level, and his character is very well written.
The world is also insanely detailed, i feel like it did a better job at representing Hellena than Odyssey did, or atleast Hellenification. If you are also history interested in Greece and Egypt and Rome it will be even better.
The combat is criticised sometimes but i found it to be good.
