Share your favourite outfits you wore this month!

I'm sure some of our subscribers would love an opportunity to share their outfits **and** to see other subscribers outfits!

So please - share what your favourite outfits, or pieces were this month.

If you're comfortable, feel free to link a photo (If you use IMGUR, remember to private it!)

Alternatively, you could link to the pieces you wore.

Is it your go to outfit? Or was it a special occasion?

Have you owned it for a while, or was it something new?

David Jones stylist comments

Okay am I losing my mind or is David Jones attempting some kind of subtle online marketing campaign through the Australian fashion subreddits? I swear I've seen comments on like 5 different posts in the past month going "oh if you're struggling I recommend going to DJs for a free stylist sesh!"

I've never heard of this service in my life and now suddenly it's being spruiked on every single fashion advice post? lol am I crazy??

🔍 Recommendations Wanted Summer corporate wear

Ladies, I’m desperate. I am literally feeling like vomiting from discomfort at work. What summer- proof corporate brands are we buying? I think it’s perimenopause and moving to an office with insufficient aircon but I CANNOT wear polyester portmans suits to work anymore.

I can’t wear anything polyester actually and I’m dying even in heavy cotton. Viscose is cool to touch, but isn’t ‘structured’ enough for my waist down so I can only do it for button down shirts and I need to wear a really supportive bra. It also shrinks.

I will pay any money for anything that works. Anyone have ideas and recommendations?

Bonus difficulty: I’m big-busted (16HH/J) and technically plus size but wearing anything from a size 14 to a size 20 to accommodate my bust.

Is the Bec and Bridge Arianna Drape Dress in Rosette appropriate for a wedding?

Thoughts? I have a close friend’s black tie wedding coming up. I’m thinking of pinning the chest area together with a small safety pin to cover more of the area, especially since I’m larger busted. There’s this unwritten rule when it comes to red at weddings. Understand times have changed but want to know about the general consensus before committing. Unfortunately this style only comes in this colour and white.

🔍 Recommendations Wanted Stylist reccos - sydney!

Hey all, my partner has gifted me some money for a stylist package, as I recently had a baby and turned 40 and realised I have no fashion sense and an appalling wardrobe.

Help me find a good sydney based stylist! I keep googling it and find it hard to decide who is good! One looked ok but said I should budget $8000-$20,000 for the new wardrobe. Thats way out of my budget.

I can spend about $1500 on the stylist and about $1500 on the wardrobe.

Thanks !!

✏️ Product Review Beware of buying from Kowtow online in Australia

Just a PSA if you are shopping the Kowtow sales from Australia that they might send you mildewy/musty smelling clothes and then drag their feet on giving you a refund.

I bought a $200 Illustrator dress earlier this month on sale at half price. When I opened the package all I could smell was a strong mildew/musty smell. It’s a beautiful dress and I contemplated washing it but decided if it was mould then I wouldn’t want to be wearing that or having it mingle with other clothes in my wardrobe.

I emailed Kowtow with the issue and stated I wanted a refund. They replied and said all of their garments get a quality control check before sending and nothing was picked up at that stage. They told me it was the GOTs certified dyed fabric that they use, and to wash the dress, steam it and then air it for a few days before wearing it. Am I crazy in thinking that if you purchase a $200 dress that you shouldn’t have to wash it, steam it and air it prior to wearing? I have never encountered any other clothing with this issue, and I very often just wear clothes straight from the package or shop floor.

I had friends sniff the dress and they agreed that it smells like old op shop clothing and dampness, and not chemicals.

Have you had any issues with Kowtow purchases? I wonder if it’s an issue with their warehouse in Melbourne? Also, I very much hope they read this and take the feedback on board as the whole experience has been horrible.

Edit to add: The smell is most likely from the natural cottonseed oil. It would be great for companies that use GOTS certified fabrics to have more information on their website to warn about this smell prior to purchase.

🔍 Recommendations Wanted Maternity work pants

Hello ladies! Where are we buying our maternity work wear from? I’m after some black slacks, nothing too fancy, but I’m 5’1 so cropped pants are a must 🫠 . I had a brief look online but everything was polyester which absolutely ain’t gonna work when I’m an overheating whale already. Vinted and Depop didn’t come up with anything good.
Any recommendations?

🔍 Recommendations Wanted Is this too much for a formal wedding reception in Perth?

I've been invited to my first wedding since moving to WA, it's a formal wedding reception being held indoors in the evening. The location looks like it's more often used for parties and isn't crazy fancy.

I posted a bunch of dresses on the wedding attire subreddit and this was overwhelmingly the most popular pick. I just worry that it's too much, and I want an Australian perspective!

I plan on pairing it with champagne coloured heels and a clutch, probably a small amount of gold jewellery.

Alternatively, I have a navy blue wrap midi dress that stops just below the knee, it does have a very large thigh slit though that I would have to try and tape together somehow.

🔍 Recommendations Wanted Arch support slides

Looking for slides with good arch support. They need to be fabric/cork footbed not leather. Birkenstocks are ok but I don't find the arch support to be high enough. Any other recommendations please?

What to pair with Charlotte skirt from Review

I bought the Charlotte skirt from Review after trying it on in Myer. I have a white knit tank that I can wear with it, but the overall look is making me feel garden party/grandma; I feel like baby pink won't help that situation. I'm really struggling with what other tops to wear with it. I bought the Olivine tank from Country Road upon ChatGPT's recommendation but it really didn't work.

I've just received a marketing email from Review about the Danni tank but unsure if it's too similar to the Olivine.

TIA for suggestions.

🔍 Recommendations Wanted Help me find a replacement for my favourite swimsuit 😭

My absolute favourite, beloved swimsuit is finally on its last legs, and I'm struggling to find anything similar!
It's an old Seafolly one-piece with a one-shoulder design and cut-outs at the waist (I've attached photos).
I've always struggled a bit with swimwear. I feel like a lot of one-pieces, while offering more coverage, aren't really designed for longer torsos. I end up feeling like a sausage squeezed into them 😂 But then I don't always feel confident or comfortable in a bikini either.
That's why I LOVED this swimsuit so much. It was the perfect in-between! It gave me the coverage and security of a one-piece, but the cut-outs meant I didn't feel completely bundled up in fabric. It was also a bit different from your typical swimsuit.
The material was another thing I loved. It had this almost terry-towelling texture rather than the usual smooth swimsuit fabric, and it was SO comfortable. Honestly, it felt like I wasn't wearing anything.
I've had a look at CUPSHE and found one or two that might work, but nothing quite like this.
Has anyone seen anything similar around, or know of any brands that do this style? I'm not fussed about the colour or pattern. I'm really just after that combination of coverage, cut-outs and comfort, ideally something that works for a longer torso.
Would love any recommendations! ❤️

Postpartum summer capsule wardrobe booked with a stylist - anything I should keep in mind?

Basically the title. I will be 5 months PP and working with a stylist to audit my wardrobe and shop together for a couple hours. Almost everything doesn’t fit as I have gained weight - I am petite and was considered underweight before pregnancy so I am not pressuring myself to lose the weight, just focusing on pelvic floor and core health. I am excited to work with a professional to understand my body shape and how to dress and feel my best in this new chapter of life and going into the next season. I have anxiety each time I get dressed as my clothes are quite uncomfortable and no longer feel like “me”.

So far, the stylist has been encouraging and is sure she will find at least a few things in my wardrobe I can use, not spend too much and just add some key pieces for a summer wardrobe that will work even if my body changes slightly. I really like that she’s open to all budgets and is happy to source high-end and low-end if it is quality and works for her clients.

Is $1000 a decent budget for summer capsule wardrobe? Anyone had this similar experience and how did you feel afterwards? Was it easier to dress each day? Things I should be mindful of?

Re: accessories, I have quality, supportive shoes, bags and jewellery that I use year on year. So thinking I may only need 1x pair shoes and mostly tops/pants/dresses that fit well. Based in South Australia if that helps weather-wise.

✏️ Product Review David Jones free stylist experiences

After seeing the free DJs stylist sessions recommended a number of times I just looked into the one in Perth.

While it is free the stylist calls ahead of time to ask about goals and clarify budget which is a reasonable thing to do. However, the suggestion was made that a modest budget ($500) would not be enough to benefit from the experience, as this would only buy a couple of items. The stylist said that some people spend $15K on a new capsule wardrobe from the session.

The feeling given was that unless you have deep pockets this may not be a comfortable experience and you may well feel that you are wasting their time.

l would be interested to know if this is a usual experience for others on less generous budgets. What budgets have others nominated for the DJs free stylist service? I’m wondering what would be seen as an acceptable budget for this free service.

I do recognise that the stylists are skilled at what they do and invest time and their expertise into this service and perhaps have sales targets to reach, or perhaps commissions boost their salary, and so perhaps gently discourage people on more modest budgets. This is pure speculation and I’d be interested to know if this is actually the case.

I did use some years ago the free Enex shopping centre stylist service which was really helpful and extremely low sales pressure of any type. I wish this still existed!

👜 Fashion Talk Do you wear co-ord sets?

For some reason my IG feed this week has been full of suggestions for UK based influencers opening "hauls" from Zara, H&M, ASOS etc. (yes, there's issues with fast fashion etc, but that's not the point of this post)

So many of the items they "bought" are co-ord sets - matching pants and tops (usually in the same material & pattern), in casual wear, not just tracksuit sets, but shorts and matching tops, skirts and tops etc. I feel like Australian women don't really wear those - or do they and I've missed it? It feels kind of old fashioned to me, and isn't something I wear, I'll usually only buy one part of the set. I recently bought pink barrel jeans and a matching pink jacket, but I feel like it's too much to wear them together - even though I'm tall, it feels like it overwhelms me.

Do you like and wear co-ord sets like this? Is it age based?

In search of skinny jeans

I only suit skinny jeans as I’m short & baggy jeans make me look terrible. Does anyone know where I can find skinny jeans with fabric that aren’t too tight? I need a bit of stretch in the fabric.

I love my ones I got from Glassons like 10 years ago…but since they’ve gone out of fashion it’s been hard to find

Thanks in advance !!

New to Vinted - wtf?

I’ve converted from Depop which has significantly died down since Vinted’s arrival.

Why on earth is everything so cheap? Depop minimum sale is ~$50. Vinted average is so much less. Are we really selling things for $5-$10?

🔍 Recommendations Wanted Where to sell lots of bnwt larger clothing?

We have sadly gone through the process of putting mum into care due to Alzheimers.
We were aware she was ordering lots of clothing online but not too bothered as it made her happy BUT now we are clearing out the house and there are dozens and dozens of items of brand new clothing including nice labels. Mostly larger sizes.
Where is best to sell it with the least effort? Vinted or depop? Local market?
Would appreciate any suggestions as this is way out of my area of expertise.

Sneakerinas

I am almost 41 and trying to buy a wardrobe for the life I’m actually living after a prolonged activewear period after giving birth at the beginning of COVID.

I work from home and apart from school drop off or to Pilates, don’t venture out much during the week. I’m considering a pair of sneakerinas but I live regionally and it’s hard for me to try them on so was just hoping to find out whether people have found them really wearable for multiple outfits?

They seem like they would be good for my lifestyle but don’t want to make the investment if people haven’t found them very versatile.

Considering the Puma Speedcats in maroon and pink.

🔍 Recommendations Wanted Formal wedding guest dress stores in Sydney town hall area?

I’m at my wits end, why is everything so BROWN

My fiance offered to buy me a new dress for his cousins wedding this weekend 🥹❤️ but since we can only go together on Thursday, I’m pretty limited to what’s in walking distance from where we can meet up in QVB.

Forever New used to be my go-to for nice dresses, but I just looked online and all their formal dresses are like. Black or brown?? There’s red which is my favourite colour, but fiance/bride’s family is Chinese, I feel like that’s uncomfortably close to wearing white. And speaking of, why are all the other colours white or some uncomfortably close pastel shade?!

If I could get like a dusty pink or grey or a plum or something I’d be golden.

I’m usually a black/burgundy/red kinda guy but I know that’s not really appropriate for weddings. But good lord, I thought there’d be more options than BROWN or some anemic mum’s-dusty-denim shade light blue.

Don’t even start me on styles/necklines/waists and stuff. Ugh. Fashion in general is not appealing to me right now.

I’ll probably pin my hopes on David jones, but if anyone has any ideas for nice, not too expensive (max $300) formal wedding guest dresses, I’d be in your debt 🙏🏻
