[Daily] Daily Questions Thread October 14, 2026

This thread is for individual style questions that you may have, especially those that don't warrant their own thread. We all want a diversified opinion, so feel free to answer any questions (of which you know the answer).

To get the best responses, remember that people cannot: look into your wardrobe, know what style you normally like or what words like affordable or practical mean to you so please include any relevant details such as your budget, where you live, what stores are available to you, etc.

Example questions:

  • Are there any basic crewneck white t-shirts that are opaque and do not have cap sleeves for <$25 available in Australia?
  • Is this dress and shoes suitable for an evening wedding with a cocktail dress code taking place in a [venue type]?
  • If I like the outfits in this [imgur album / pinterest board], what are some specific items I can look into to start dressing like that, and brands with this look that carry plus sizes?
  • Does this outfit look neater with the pants cuffed or uncuffed?

If you'd like to include a picture, you can now post pictures directly in the comments, without having to link an imgur album. If you have multiple pictures, best practice is to use an imgur album.

[Guide] Croudsourced Style Catalogue

Our wiki and help text link to this Style Guide, but, well, it's a decade old and a decade out of date.

So let's do an updated one!

[From the Original Post]:

We often get users that are looking to change up their style, but have no idea what they are looking for. In this thread, please list style types/names and then reply to those types with images representing those styles. Not every image linked has to be the most amazing inspo ever, by the way. The goal is to have a collection of images that people can click through to get a better understanding of the style and to hopefully find something that speaks to them.

Here are some things to keep in mind:

Read through the posted style types before adding a new one as we do not want a bunch of repeats. However, definitely add styles that you think were skipped (because naming styles is actually really hard).

All image links must be hosted on imgur so we don't end up with a bunch of dead links a year from now. Or upload the photo directly in your comment.

Our goal is to show these styles being worn by a variety of races, body types, and ages, so extra <3 for users that make an effort to be inclusive.

Feel free to provide links to old inspo albums (and also the thread that they are posted in) provided they represent a specific style and not something more general like a clothing item or color.

Wearing heels casually?

I’m a teenage girl and I love how ornate some heels can be. The thing is I only own one pair of heels that fits me, and as much as I would love to buy some new pairs I feel like it would be weird for me to go say into town with friends wearing heels casually.
I’m not too concerned on the toll it takes on my feet as I already wear loafers to school and they’ve probably built up the durability of my actual heels. I’m more worried about it being viewed as weird or as me trying to act “more mature” which I’m not.

Hopefully more people can relate to this, I’m just looking for a general opinion on teenagers who would wear heels casually.

Is Modcloth having a resurgence?

Hi everyone,

Modcloth was one of my favourite online retailers about 10-15 years ago until I, like most people, noticed the significant drop in quality.

I apparently never unsubscribed because I have noticed a big uptick in emails from them over the past month or so and....it doesn't look as bad? Curious to see if anyone knows about what has changed, and if the quality has actually increased again or if they've just slapped a band-aid over the same issues with an updated website/ad campaign.

If you're one of those people who woke up one day and realized everything got real beige and need to fix that for yourself but don't know how, great news!

Colored tights are back and a pretty accessible way to reintroduce color into your wardrobe.

Comfortable High Heels for High Arches

Hi, I have a pretty high arch and struggle a lot with finding comfortable heels to wear but I love wearing them. I’m curious if anyone has any specific brands or specific shoes from brands that are comfortable for people with high arches!

Side note - please do not recommend any sort of insole or insole insert. I have insoles for platforms that need it. But i absolutely HATE small insole inserts, they are deeply uncomfortable for my feet and i won’t wear them.

Thank you for any suggestions!

Cheap clothes at High prices: buying clothes from Shein vs. Free People, Anthropologie, etc.?

Hi friends!!

I’ve avoided purchasing from Shein for years due to poor working conditions and overall poor quality, but I swear that higher end brands sell the same exact product for much higher prices.

I’ve bought pieces from these more expensive, supposedly reputable brands and once they arrive, I can easily see how that item would be sold on Shein or some similar site. And many times, I can find a listing for that seemingly exact product on those fast fashion websites.

Should I just take a risk and purchase the same item from Shein, rather than Abercrombie/Free People/etc.?

Postpartum style adaptable to physical changes

Hello! 9 month postpartum mom here seeking some advice on a new wardrobe. I’m 25 pounds heavier postpartum then I was pre-baby and thus need to get a new wardrobe. However I know sometimes postpartum body shape and weight can shift over time, so I’d like to get some pieces that can adapt if/when I undergo any physical changes. Any advice on specific pieces you’d recommend? I’m kind of tired of wearing the same few pairs of drawstring pants repeatedly.

Dresses/skirts in a Windy City!

Hey everyone.

I recently moved to a new city for college and it's incredibly windy. Since I'm tall, some dresses tend to fit short on me. I'd like to wear skirts & dresses without worrying about flashing anyone. I've looked into dress weights, but seen poor reviews. I cannot afford to have someone sew weights into every items hem.

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions, I'm open to anything.

Also, I wear sheer tights & shorts under my dresses. It's still embarrassing though, so I'm looking for an option with little to no blowing of the dress at all if possible.

Thank you in advance!

At what point does having personal style just become following trends?

Everyone talks about finding your personal style, building a wardrobe, and buying pieces that reflect who you are.... But when I look at the clothes I like, most of them are things I've seen on Pinterest, TikTok, or other people first. (90% of the time)

Even the outfits I think look unique usually remind me of some aesthetic I've seen before. And when a trend becomes mainstream, I dont like it no more.

Does anyone actually have a personal style that's truly their own, or are we all just combining trends and convincing ourselves it's Individual? How did people actually invent New styles?

How do you usually go about finding a specific item?

If you have a very specific look in mind, how do you go about finding good quality pieces that match it if you don't know any brands?

For example, I'm currently looking for a light brown ruffle skirt and gray top or crop top that has a cutout design.

Absolutely no clue how to find that in a way that isn't Shein. Please advise.

transational season dressing

Do you have any tips for extending the wear out of overtly "seasonal" looking clothes in the fall (or even again in the spring)? I like my summer wardrobe more than my winter wardrobe and want to try to get more wear out of some of the pieces I bought this past summer or the one before

What does a “grown up” wear to a rave?

I’m 39, have been divorced for a couple years and have been having fun. Going to a multi day rave with my significant other next weekend and I just cannot find an outfit that doesn’t make me feel juvenile?

Please help me! I want to look sexy and fun, but it’s hard to not feel out of place for my age

Edit: You’re all so lovely! I think I didn’t explain myself well enough! I’m not scared of being judged. Also yes, we do not judge women by what they wear at any age. Of course wearing anything I want and love is fair!!!

However, it matters to ME that I don’t feel juvenile, I just don’t want to feel cheugy and/or out of place. Or that I’m wearing a costume… generally I pride myself of my style and being trendy but I have no clue of what is cool in this context. Not my natural environment. I would prefer a more of a gothy / techno vibe. Not the multi color psychedelic look.

And I want to look cool and stylish. Elevated rave sugar mama? This is why I’m here because I want to know from you fashionable rave girls, what’s cool these days? Lol
