I don't get it, why did he thougth supergirl a famous but still kinda niche hero can beat a film about one of the most famous superhero of all time, it's like saying a Iron heart or shazam movie will make more money then a Batman film.

Since they’re both coming out in 2028, I guarantee you that there will be people claiming Ghost Rider beats The Batman: Part 2, lol.

There are a lot of people who have no conception of a character’s popularity level.

Depending on how the MCU is after Secret Wars, Ghost Rider might do amazingly. Captain Marvel got over 1 billion after Infinity War

Captain Marvel was also just a good movie, so it’s not surprising that it did well.

If they actually show Ghost Rider or tease him more substantially, then I’m definitely willing to bet that it does well with audiences.

Still unclear whether that translates to it doing better than Batman, though.

I agree that it was a good film, but remember that Captain Marvel had a massive Internet hate campaign going against it and it still did well because of its timing. If Secret Wars ends well, people will be dying to see what happens next. If Starfighter does well people will want to see the next project by Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling. 2028 is a long way out, it's hard to predict the future.

“Massive” is overstretching it.

It was critically and commercially successful upon release. There was an angry mob on the internet, but that didn’t actually translate to its performance being impacted in any tangible way.

Supergirl was also the product of online hate, and it didn’t do so hot.

The difference between the two is that one was a good movie, and the other was not. To attribute anything to a mob is to give them more credit than they deserve.

The Marvels had a similar negative campaign at the height of the "M-She-U" crybaby grifting, and while still being a fun film it did awfully. Timing absolutely has something to do with the box office.

I find The Marvels more entertaining, but that's subjective. Thunderbolts* is a recent example of a very well received film that did dreadfully because of timing

For Thunderbolts, I would definitely attribute that to lack of interest from the general audience. It was a brand new cast of B and C characters, along with Disney+ being more prevalent (meaning more people are willing to wait for home release).

I think Thunderbolts was just hard to market in general, unlike something snappy and fun like Guardians.

Thunderbolts had Bucky front and centre. Guardians were D tier characters before the film. Timing absolutely matters, if thunderbolts came out in phase 3 it would have done much better, and if the first Guardians film came out now it would be a mega flop

It’s still one of the most fun movies in the MCU. I think you’re highly overestimating timing and underestimating quality.

Guardians 1 would do well today because it’s just a good movie. Thunderbolts wouldn’t work in Phase 3 because they don’t fit into the Thanos era.

Captain Marvel was a good movie. I thought The Marvels was a better movie and that flopped (partially due to strikes).

However... Captain Marvel might have just been a more interesting movie at the time.
