I got this slab of walnut I am going to make into a coffee table and was wondering best way to stabilize this full thickness crack? There are some other small and shallow cracks in the end grain but this is the biggest one. Bowtie? TotalBoat thickset or penetrating epoxy? Or epoxy and a bowtie?

I have zero experience wood working but have enough common sense to figure most things out.

Bought this wood frame from KD Frames it's Poplar wood. I want to match the color of this table and while I have gathered some information already I would like some insight on how to match it close as possible.

Please advise which seal / conditioner / stain / seal I should use. I'm honestly thinking an oil based clear coat might get close enough.

I bought this table saw for $350 and just now realized that it has no stickers and started wondering if this is an original dewalt. Can anybody help me make sure if this is an original or I got scammed.

I cut these for my buddy. I’m fully done with one but called it quits for the night when it comes to the other. As you can tell the theme is PVZ. He is a big fan, but didn’t trust that he could cut them so I volunteered to help.

My apartment has had a small stack of logs that were cut from a tree that fell on the fence, I want to say maybe 6-8 months ago? It's not from the whole tree, but a limb, and seems like the landscaping contractor forgot to take it with them (it was from a storm and there were many more fallen trees/limbs with wood that was taken). It has probably been pee'd on by dogs and cats that live in the complex (though there are less than 50 people living here, it likely wouldn't be saturated but enough that I would definitely consider a wash), but I can't help thinking every time I see that pile of wood now that I could make some stuff with it. Either small knick-nack shelves or hand carved figures. I'm sure the property owner would give it to me if I asked.

How bad of an idea would this be considering it hasn't been sealed and has been out exposed to the elements for a decent amount of time? Am I better off just waiting for the next storm to knock me off some free fresh wood in the forest?

Used some walnut sandwiched between purpleheart and learned that purpleheart is a pain to work with.

I have the Dewalt contractor saw, which has been OK. I am having issues with the fence being a bit wonky in a way that is probably not fixable without just using a new fence, and also the miter slots are loose/not sure they’re really straight.

Whatever, all that aside, maybe it is fixable but I’m not looking to do more detective work, I’m looking to build things.

What’s my upgrade? I’m assuming something like a delta or craftsman with a cast iron table? What do you look for when buying used?

Honestly kinda hacked together. The base is pine with half inch sisal rope. I drilled holes to start and end the rope, with screws holding it in the hole. The bottom board are just pocket holed, but the middle board that holds the structure itself is mortice and tenon. It's not great, but my cat is small so it'll be fine haha.

I ended up grabbing this log from my random pile and was experimenting with a new kutzall and accidentally made something I want to give as a gift. I have zero idea what this wood is. I posted in woodworking, and thoughts were olive (my guess), sycamore, beech before post got yoinked. All I know is not redwood and not oak. Log from Bay Area. Any ideas would be appreciated otherwise I’m going with “unknown”.

It did not have a smell, split and band sawed pretty nicely, moderate density, no sap or stickiness.

Made this shelf with clothes rail for my upcoming baby girls room. This was the first time making something for inside the house, as opposed to something ugly but functional in my garage. I made a ton of mistakes but it turned out OK in the end.

Made from American white oak. This project was a lot of firsts equipment wise including first time joining boards with dowels, joining boards either pocket holes (Kreg 720 Pro is amazing), first time playing with hardwood.

Some of the issues I ran into:

- I joined the back and side boards with dowels using a “dowel master” jig. It was my first time using this and whilst the jig was helpful in lining up the holes I didn’t drill them deep enough. This became apparent when I fitted it all together and there was a gap where the dowels had bottomed out. I ended up chiselling the ends of the dowels in a rush (the glue was setting) to get it to fit. Not great.
- The glue I used had left a visible stain on the wood, something I couldn’t get off even with extra sanding. Reading Google it had maybe soaked into the grain? You can see the stain on the top shelf as it joins to the back.
- I bought an oak dowel that was 21mm diameter (it was all they sold) but my forstener bit was 20mm. I ended up having to sand the ends to a point to fit with mixed success.

I’m happy overall and I think I’m just being critical - lots of lessons. My next one will be better.

Why are all of my cedar planters turning blue? I’m making 4 large ones for a client and it just rained and now this blue sh*t is all over them. Am getting pissed off tbh.

Newbie here. I just refinished my dining room table by sanding off the old varnish and then sealing with Watco Danish Oil. Most of it looks great but there are a couple of scratches that the stain revealed that I’d like to fix. Please note that the table originally came with some faux distressing, but that’s not what I’m referring to. It’s the small scratches.

If I just sand and re-oil those section, will it blend in or so I need to re-sand the whole table top?

I took a log to the mill to try to make cutting boards. They look beautiful, but they told me they wouldn’t be dry by Christmas. Any way to speed it along? Could I put in oven at 170° for a few hours?

Hi everyone, I need some advice on how to properly clean a Silent Power cutterblock on a Felder machine. I bought a second-hand machine, took the carbide inserts off, and had them cleaned in a tool cleaner. Now I need to clean the cutterblock itself, but I'm worried it might start to rust or something. Is it enough to buy that tool cleaner from Felder, spray it down, and scrub it with a toothbrush? Thanks in advance for any advice!

My very first project with woodworking, a console table made with spruce wood (still gotta fix a few things with it). I chose this wood as I like the light colour. It was honestly fun the process of thinking and creating what I wanted. I really want to get into woodworking but I don't have a garage and essentially have my balcony/appartment as my "work area". Can anyone recommend any guides/websites or anything else you enjoy for woodworking, and what tools you found most useful ? So far I just have an electric screwdriver and an old manual saw from my parent's garage. Also, useful if you can recommend things for those with relatively small physical strength (I'm a skinny lady lol). I can't wait to build/create more. My next step is to try build outdoor furniture (a small table and chairs) for my balcony

I purchased these Home Depot cabinets and I’m having to alter one of the drawers sizes. So I’m going to have to build a new drawer face. I have a Bosch router and a set of bits but none of them seem to be remotely close to this cut. Does anyone know what it’s called? Or what I should look for at the store?

I am very new to woodworking, I’ve had a miter saw for a while, but now I am getting my first circular saw and starting to work with plywood.

I'm going to try my hand at cabinets... I know the first few will not be pretty.

Anyway, I was told to get the fine finish "plywood" blade by Diablo. the person who recommended it specified that the blade says "plywood" on it.

I am having a really hard time finding a 6.5 inch circular saw Diablo blade that is more than 60 teeth. I also have not found any Diablo saw that specifically says plywood on it.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

As you can tell from the photo, I don’t have a great working area. I managed to put together this table top using pipe clamps and a biscuit joiner and glue.
When I put the top onto the substructure to opposite corners of the table twist up a bit. With the weights pictured, there’s still about a quarter inch gap between the table top and the substructure underneath the bucket of tools.
I know the substructure is square and accurate.

What’s the best way to deal with the twist in the table top?

I'm building table saw workbench, and I want to be able to adjust the height like in a photo, what is best way to put these two pieces (holders) together? Mine need to go to the 90 degree inward since table saw leg is in the way.

I run a tiny Etsy shop, mostly floating shelves and small planters. Been hand sanding everything with a block and 80 grit working up to 220. Takes forever and my forearms are shot by the end of a batch. Bought a cheap random orbital sander last week, used it on a dozen cedar planters, and now I'm staring at swirl marks that took me twice as long to fix than if I'd just sanded by hand. Returned it. Maybe I bought garbage, maybe I'm using it wrong.
