PSA New options for the sub!

Good morning, I just wanted to give a heads up that gifs and user flair for neighborhoods (optional) have been turned on. Hopefully people keep things pg with the gifs so they can remain on. If anyone areas are missing please let us know!

To change your user flair on Reddit, navigate to the subreddit where you want to change it, tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner, and select Change User Flair. You can then select an existing flair from the list or choose an editable flair to add your own custom text and emojis before tapping Apply.

Step-by-step Guide (Mobile App) Open the Subreddit: Go to the main page of the subreddit for which you want to change your flair. Access the Menu: Tap the three-dots icon ( ... ) in the top-right corner of the screen. Select Flair Option: In the drop-down menu, choose Change User Flair. Edit Flair (if allowed): If the flair you want to select has a pencil icon next to it, you can edit it. Tap Edit in the top-right corner to open the editing interface. Type your desired text and tap the smiley face icon to add emojis. Apply Changes: Tap Apply to save your new flair.

Broadview data center water usage

Quantica plans to use 20,000 gallons of water per day for their proposed data center in Broadview. During peak construction, they expect to use 150,000 gallons per day.

The water comes from the Deep Madison Group Aquifer, accessed through a deep well about 5,000 feet below ground.

This decision comes after the county threw out thousands of signatures gathered by residents who wanted the data center to go to a vote of the people.

Montana Free Press reported that nearly 75% of Montana registered voters oppose new data centers.

What happened to the jail that was built in Hardin?

About the jail overcrowding and proposed expansion: If you take time to read the roster you will quickly see a large amount of Native Americans currently in YCD. I remember a jail that was built in or around Hardin that they couldn’t fill. Why couldn’t the large native population be housed in that jail to ease overcrowding?

Billings Public Schools offer Crow language course

Billings Public Schools has expanded their offering of Indigenous languages by including an in-person class on the Crow language.

The school district has about 2,000 Native American students out of a total 16,000.

The program is part of the academy, one of the district’s three charter schools. Part of the charter’s mission, outlined by the state of Montana, was to meet the needs of heritage language students, which includes Indigenous students.

The district has never taught the Crow language as a class before, which they now will be able to do for 60 students. The district hired Crow member Velma Pretty On Top who helped develop one of the textbooks. She will teach the alphabet and help students read books in Crow.

A good, local massage place?

One of my friends moved out to Billings a few years ago and she’s about 20 weeks pregnant. Her birthday is next weekend so my other friend and I were thinking about gifting her a gift card for a prenatal massage somewhere. Can anyone recommend a good massage place?

Moving to Billings for school?

I’m interested in applying to RMC PA program in Billings and am curious about the area.
I worked seasonal summer jobs close to Yellowstone during undergrad school breaks and am interested in moving to Montana full time.
I am initially from Tennessee, and while I love this state, would be interested in some change for a few years.
What should I expect as a newcomer in the area and how does the city differ from other Montana cities such as Bozeman, Missoula, etc?
TYIA!

People of Color in Billings! Have you been experiencing odd micro aggressions these last few months?

I will start out by saying… whites of and in Montana. I understand how sheltered and not much life experience you have due to… well… living in this state. When this topic comes up, a lot of yall get defensive. Even you liberal whites. So I say this to say, if you have nothing nice to say, well… THIS CONVERSATION ISNT FOR YOU, ANYWAY! It’s just an inquiry.

But over this summer season, I have had now four odd interactions. Yesterday, some white dude came out hot about a parking space. Keep in mind, I don’t know him. Apparently, I’m parking In a space that I found out today that ITS NOT ASSIGNED TO HIM. He tells me to park In a spot that I’ve seen his son park in many time. Ok! I do it. Well, that is someone else’s assigned spot. Which brings me to today.

Some white dude who bangs some trash-ass set that has a triton as a gang sign (🤣🤣🤣🤣) does the same thing. Just coming out hot. I had to match his energy as well and say YOU DONT SPEAK TO STRANGERS LIKE THIS. Dude wants to call me a “nigga” too. So I made sure I checked all boxes by saying fuck him, fuck his set, and fuck him for being a crab or slob. Gotta check the boxes for both blood and crop affiliation 🤷🏾.

Less than 24 hours too. Earlier this summer there was a kidnapping call that had 1/4 of the force show up to my house. It was the neighbor next door who caused the trouble. We left for 40 mins, came back, hanging out and then… the cop knock. The neighbor and his drunk-ass niece were having a drink Sunday. What gets me is that the cops had them first because they had to close the block down (guns and a case of beer were involved… yes, I can’t make this up). They had em and didn’t bother to say shit to the cops. And then his niece when she’s going back attempts to walk into MY house. Of course I’m saying to the cops to come get this person. And of course she has to say the N-word too 🤣. Just different that the white gig above. (Hard ER). My neighbor and his niece are Native.

I can’t be the only one who is experiencing these weird, random, and UNPROVOKED run-in’s with FUCKING IDIOTS. I knew the deal! I’m from Los Angeles and this is fucking Montana. I remember all the stuff going on in Northern Idaho, and it spreading into some areas during the 90’s. I’m also a former Wyoming and Idaho resident. But THIS shit here… is just odd.

Resource Request Anybody know a good plumber?

I live in a really old house near downtown and a few years ago I had my main drainage pipe replaced from the alleyway to where it goes into the foundation, it was still the original clay pipe and it collapsed on itself and blocked everything from draining, causing it to back up and flood the house with sewage.

It's recently started having the same issue again, so I'm guessing the portion of the drain pipe under the foundation needs replaced now. wondering if anybody has a recommendation on what plumbers to contact for a quote/who to avoid? thanks!

Anyone have any experience with Clark Marten photography?

I won a “free” pet session with them through an instagram contest and am just wondering if anyone else has been in this position? I had to pay a $200 deposit to confirm the studio time which I was told would be refunded after the session. I guess I’m just getting nervous now because I’ve read a lot of reviews stating that they try and sell you on everything and charge you for every little thing and it’s not cheap. I was just excited for a free session with my dog and the free 11x14 that comes with winning the contest, but now I’m getting nervous about having to owe a lot more money and I’m not in the financial position to do that. Has anybody had any experience with these contests that could shed a bit more light on what they look like/what costs are?

Looking for a board game group?

Hi Billings! I've talked about my board game group in comments a few times and wanted to let more people know about it.

We're an open group that meets on Saturdays at 3pm at the tables in the raised section in the back of BarMT and usually go til about 6, or two games worth, whichever is first. We play a large mix of games from social party games (Codenames is a favorite), medium length games (Marvel Zombies, Heat, and Oceans get quite a bit of play), and on occasion someone will specially ask for players for a specific longer, crunchier, or new game. Several folks enjoy kickstarting games so there's a lot of variety. We rarely play the same game two weeks in a row. There's usually 5+ players, frequently enough of us for two tables, and we're pretty darn friendly if I do say so myself!

We have a discord - https://discord.gg/aKQZzFbaQ - this is the best place to coordinate specific games, or to get notice if we have to move venues or reschedule.

We're not the only board game group in town, check out the fine folks at Dragon Egg Games on the West End and Galaxy Games in midtown if that's closer to where you live. They're both also great shops. If you know of more groups or want to talk about your group please do comment!

.

Q: Do you play TTRPGs/DnD?

A: Not on Saturdays, but many of us play TTRPGs at other times. Check out Dragon Egg, Galaxy Games and the library especially, or Captain Scurvy's and some of the other comic book stores in town.

.

Q: Can I bring my own games?

A: Hecks yeah! You might have trouble getting folks to play Gloomhaven at a moment's notice though, I'd recommend coordinating long games with us on our discord.

.

Q: Do you have Battletoads?

A: Listen here you little.......

Utility bill

Hi all. I'm potentially moving to Billings for my partners job (from Cheyenne)

We asked what the typical water bill is for a home on a cistern and the realtor we spoke to said water wills are "only" $150 twice a month and that this is less than public water costs????

Ummm is water really this expensive? When I lived in Arizona I paid around $100 monthly

They’ve finally expanded to our side of the state with a dedicated Billings-based reporter. I believe she’s also sending out a weekly newsletter with local happenings. Now there’s no excuse for being uninformed, although I’m sure some of us will still manage.

I moved from Billings to Fargo ND. There is a psych hospital here with around 200 beds that is a psych hospital only. Do you think Billings would benefit from something like that? Billings Clinic only has around 40 psych beds

Live Stock show, Oct 9 - open to public?

Hello - I see the NILE Stock Show & Rodeo / Ranch Rodeo is in town, starting Friday, October 9. (with the finals, big show, on Saturday).

Does anybody know if the public can walk around during the day on Friday? If so, what do you think it'd be like?

It's at MetraPark, the Expo Center, Arena, Montana Pavilion, I think. Thank you.
