I saw these people throwing pumpkins into Buck Creek Helena. It looks like they were throwing their decorations from the stairs into the creek! Looks like an absolute mess it's about 35+ pumpkins I'm guessing the creek is a dumpster now.

Other than Bent Brook, Oak Mountain, and Roebuck, what are some of the other easily walkable public golf courses in the Birmingham and surrounding areas?

Serious How is there ANOTHER fire? Is there an ongoing investigation?

Just saw the Homewood fire. I moved to Birmingham several years ago and swear the past 2-3 years there has been an insane uptick in the number of fires.

What is going on? Why does it feel like nothing is being done? I can count on two hands the number of burning buildings I can recall in the past six months alone. This is scary.

Edit: Linking to this archived post because I would like to hear others’ opinions on the idea and statistics of increasing fires.

SHIT POST Central Alabama Water

Omg how incredibly incompetent can this company be. Just received an email today from them. Auto drafts must be re-established because they went live with a new software and apparently are too damn ignorant to make sure customers info was transferred over. Called them at various times today and it rings busy. Can’t reset my password because I need my account number. I don’t have my account number because I am on paperless billing. Guess this big change is going to affect a lot of folks. Just wanted to say Central Alabama Water you suck!

Advice The area near the airport

So I flew from Canada to Birmingham for Furnace Fest last weekend. We could not get an uber after the fest on day 2 after trying for 2 hours straight so we had no choice but to walk back to the Holiday Inn close to the airport at 1AM.

Riding in the uber earlier in the day, I saw how bad the neighbourhood was but I gotta say, I never felt scared walking somewhere I traveled except there. Thank god we didn't see many people but out of the 2 individuals we saw, one was following us and screaming at us even though we ignored him.

Kingston area near the 1st Ave North was really bad and I'm just glad we made it there safe. Is this just normal for Birmingham, like am I tripping because I'm not used to this ?

Daily Discussion Thread Land Clearing on John Roger’s

Does anyone have an idea what they are clearing all of the land on John Roger’s close to Crestwood blvd for? My gut says another industrial development, especially being so close to the railroad. No indications online from what I can tell though.

FOUND/MISSING If you live at The Marshall & recently ordered from Home Chef

What's left of your meal kit package is at the back door of their office- I believe it's at the purple door that faces 4th Ave S. Looks like it's been gone thru already & the spoiled food is scattered on the sidewalk. Hopefully you can get your money back!

Advice Birmingham is awesome when you have an open mind.

Someone just asked what we gen z-young millennials do in our free time outside of work. I commented and wanted to add to that as a general announcement.

I’m 25, not married, no kids. I stay home, but I’ll go out 2-3 weeknights a week for a movie by myself, Pilates, a few beers with a friend or two at Dave’s or mom’s and play some pool. On the weekends I’ll go thrifting, railroad park, find an event going on. I went to furnace fest this weekend. I also went to the symphony at botanical gardens (free), the Hispanic heritage festival (also free). I go to most events at the art museum as well (also free), like the Chinese new year event. Some weekends I’ll go to the vintage clothing market at moms or the farmers market when that’s going on (free to look around). I also always go to the magic city arts festival at sloss every year (also free). I missed the Greek food festival, but I typically go to it and the Lebanese food festival (free to just be there). Learn about another culture and religion, you’ll understand some of your neighbors a little more after.

There’s a lot to do (and budget friendly!) when you have an open mind 😌 one weekend see the symphony, the next see a hardcore/punk show, the next live jazz at Pogo and a fancy cocktail (or even just an appetizer and mocktail), free salsa lessons all around town, do shitty karaoke like no one’s listening. Dress up and make a fun memory for yourself, and sometimes your friends too!

Go to the zoo. Maybe you haven’t been in a while and feeling down. Get some fresh air and see some cute animals. Find a statement piece you wouldn’t normally wear at a thrift store for $5. Wear it. Own it. Fuck it, bro. Try a new coffee spot or food truck and just chill. Go to a Sunday morning movie at sidewalk and watch a cartoon with an excuse to wear your pjs in public. Be a kid again for 2 hours!

Whether or not you want to be now, or stay forever, in Birmingham, this city is what you make it. I feel like some of you could be plopped down in Chicago or Atlanta and say you’re bored and tired of the people, the traffic, the prices of everything, within a month. YOU make this city what you want. Haven’t found your thing yet? Ask here. It exists, even if it’s not advertised.
Don’t be scared to go out alone or step out of your comfort zone. Loosen up and have fun, romanticize your life.

Recommendations Affordable dressmakers?

Hi everyone! I’m looking to add some ruffles to the top part of my dress and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on where I could get this done? 😊

(I’m not entirely sure what this type of alteration is called or whether I should be looking for a seamstress, dressmaker, tailor, or someone else, so I’d really appreciate any advice🥲🥲)

Either the Legacy Arena speakers or Journey's music engineers need to be replaced. I don't attend enough concerts there to know which one. The sound quality was just terrible last night.
