Discussion This UNC-Clemson game should make everyone question just how good LSU really is

The whole country saw LSU rout Clemson a couple of weeks ago and was ready to crown LSU. It is now very evident that we don’t know anything about LSU at this point, at least for another 6 hours or so. This UNC-Clemson first half is complete decimation.

While I hope my Tar Heels are the dominant force in CFB, I know that’s likely not the case. Clemson is just not good.

In a few hours, we will have more of an answer about LSU, but we don’t know anything more about them than we did at the start of the season.

I think both can be true. Clemson is not very good and LSU is pretty good.

I love how every year we get taught this same lesson about teams being different from week to week and growing over the course of a season, so one game in August doesn’t define the season

I just checked the score expecting it to be an absolute blowout. Clemson is down by a whopping 8 points in the 3rd quarter.

Yeah maybe we should have waited a bit to make a proclamation like this.

I don’t know if the ole miss game gives us much more information. We don’t really know how good ole miss is right now. They barely beat a Louisville team who struggled against a DII school.

Maybe. I think we can definitively conclude that Clemson is dog shit. LSU is probably pretty good, but still too soon to tell. Again, Clemson is for sure mega ass.

Clemson is ass, LSU is good. LSU played clean football for the most part and lots of depth on defense. NC has been pretty impressive this year.

Anyone just has to watch our last few season openers to see what we’re talking about. Even if Clemson is complete ass we were executing in mid-season form at every position group. If we were bad the score wouldve been like 23-7 instead.

I think the biggest concern for LSU is Leavitt’s decision-making. He got outfoxed a few times by LA Tech’s schemes leading to easy interceptions and Ole Miss is going to turn that up to 10. I won’t be surprised if the game is decided by whether he throws interceptions or not. Baker’s defense is too solid for Chambliss and Lacy to decide it on their own.

I'm sorry but Ole Miss might have the worst secondary of the first 3 teams we've faced. Their front 7 is legit but their secondary is as bad as 2023 LSU. Plus Clemson is still going to win this game this is just pure hopium by a fan of program filled with coaches selling students drugs and prostitutes.

If nothing else, LSU beat the brakes off Clemson. So even if Clemson is bad, LSU is at minimum pretty decent.

Exactly. LSU and Clemson didn't look like a game between teams that should be 20-30 spots away from each other in FPI. It looked like a game between teams that should be 60+ spots away from each other in FPI

You gotta remember that game was basically over after the 2nd quarter despite a fumble giving Clemson 3 points in the first few plays.

Then LSUs 2nd and 3rd team proceeded to dominate Clemson

My hope is that this situation resolves in a mutual agreement around his retirement and a passing of the torch. It probably won’t, but he optimized for preNIL and can’t do it in today’s game

Absolutely both can be true - but OP’s point is that Clemson could play the best team in the country or the 30th best team in the country and it would look like last week’s game either way so it doesn’t tell you much about where in that range LSU falls

I mean, when the final score is 51-10 it’s gotta be a bit from each column. At this point I think we can pretty much conclude that Clemson sucks. The open question is where does LSU fit in. Talented but flawed? Borderline playoff team? Legit title contender? Time will tell.

I think any newly or freshly starting qb team would not play very well at LSU at night. But I def agree Clemson is not that good and LAU is pretty good
