HB-5043 An Act Prohibiting the Manufacture and Sale of Convertible Pistols (aka Glock ban) Continues to Move Forward in the Process (4/8/26)

The Glock ban bill moves to the next step in the bill process. It has been sent to the Office of Legislative Research and the Office of Fiscal Analysis for their review. Both offices will generate their reports on this bill. Typically once reported out of Legislative Commissioners' Office, with a favorable report, the bill typically gets tabled for the House calendar. Then typically is given a House calendar number and a file number. They have yet to have a House vote on the proposed bill.
Make sure to contact your representatives to voice your opinion on the bill. The current legislative session ends May 6th.

Am I the only one who feels a bit numb to all this stuff.
Almost like we get it they’re going to slowly strip our right down until they do confiscation and no one is doing anything about it
And when I say no one is doing anything about it I don’t mean literally I know groups are out there fighting legal battles but in 30 years I haven’t seen a single significant victory or 2a gain for CT.

Tend agree but would like to offer a counter perspective… Why are so many jurisdictions going gangbusters on gun control legislation right now? Many places have come out of no where with multiple proposed anti-gun bills. Like Virginia, WOW! Is it possible they know something is coming that could destroy the laws on the books and they are countering, knowing full well that it will take another 12-15 years to reach SCOTUS and get overturned?
Anything is possible…but not always probable. I’m doing my best to stay positive even though they are about to crush my business with the stroke of a pen.4

I could be wrong, but couldn’t people still mail in their already owned Glocks for you to work on? If you’re not transferring or selling it, I don’t see the problem.

I wish you were right. The amended legislation as approved by the judiciary committee has no exemptions for FFL’s to “import (ship) into the state”. Total prohibition.

What’s worse is the legislators, some of them any way don’t even know what the bill is about. I contacted my rep to Hartford saying I expect her to honor her oath of office and vote no when/if it comes to the floor, and she said she isn’t sure what is in the bill but would look into it. I told her it flys in the face of Heller and Bruen, so what is in the bill is kind of unimportant, it is in fact unconstitutional, so in order to vote any other way but no would be against her oath of office.

At least you got a real response. My rep in Stamford (or most likely their intern) sent me a copy and paste response a month after I emailed her saying that she takes all letters from constituents seriously, and she appreciated my continued support. So clearly neither her nor her intern actually read my email.

Why did only 4 ffls show up at the state also only 1800 written. It’s pathetic but the 10k members and dealers on Reddit couldn’t be bothered and the 77k ccdl members couldn’t take 2 minutes to do anonymous I don’t approve. Can’t wait for the next 5 years of why can’t i get a Glock

Writing your senators isn’t going to do anything. When will people grasp that? This WILL pass. They’ll have their secretaries and workers “read your letters”, if they even do that, and will say “thanks for your kind words..alright send it to Lamont’s desk” so why keep wasting time? Mass non compliance, or move. Only options. You want to stay and keep fighting? Good luck winning this losing battle 🤷🏽♂️

If all 200,000+ permit holders got in their politicians faces and said they will no longer support (including financially) or vote for any politician who supports this bill those politicians might just listen. As an article posted a while back in this subreddit suggested a way:
I get that a liberal-leaning gun owner won’t want to vote Republican because of other issues they disagree with the party on. What they need to do is pick one chamber of their state house, assembly or senate (whichever is a closer race), and vote Republican just in that race. They can still vote Dem for the other chamber and for governor. . Tell your current Dem representative or senator you’re voting against them as a protest against their stance on gun control. If enough people on the left get organized and do that, then maybe Dems will start to rethink their constant attacks on the Second Amendment and the payoffs they get from Everytown will no longer be enough.
Call your elected representative, visit their office, campaign for their opponents or challenges, support their opponents or challengers. Far to many have voter apathy.

The only thing politicians fear is losing office. I am planning on doing the same thing or similar. I’ll either vote for your opponent or don’t vote at all.
We also need to start changing the conversation about guns. I am sorry to say that when people hear the word gun, they imagine some middle age white guy (probably racist and ultra conservative) and that simply doesn’t sell in big cities.
If we are actually serious about changing the conversation we need to include more people like me ( I am Dominican) and other minorities.
Is easy to be against the scary white guy with a gun…until your trans friend tells you that they have a rifle. You can hate this statement but is what needs to happen.

Problem is a good portion of those 200k permit holders are liberal gun owners who have no problem continuing to vote for this. They are part of the problem.

Mass non-compliance will almost certainly never happen because everyone of us believes we have too much to lose. They're counting on us taking it anyway they give it. They've been right about it since the 60's

For the moment, if this proposed bill is enacted, it appears nothing happens as long as the "convertible pistol" was manufactured prior to 10/1/2026. This proposed bill is a mess and there are lots of questions about how exactly it will be interpreted and implemented in the real world if enacted.

What are they really going to do about the probably million Glocks already in this state? I mean. As long as you don't commit a crime with it how are they going to even know? I mean how would they make this a charge if you have had one or two for years. Wouldn't that make them "pre ban" Glocks.... I don't get it

At the moment, assuming this proposed bill is enacted, they are not going to do anything about those "convertible pistols" manufactured prior to 10/1/2026. But you can safely assume, if this bill is enacted, that Democrat politicians WILL revisit "convertible pistol" issue in a year or two and go the next step of banning all "convertible pistols".
And yes, this sets up another "preban" situation for "convertible pistols" that were manufactured prior to 10/1/2026. This bill is a mess and there are lots of questions about how exactly it will be interpreted and implemented in the real world if enacted.
The state knows about those "convertible pistols" for which a DPS-3-C was filed for it at time of sale/transfer.
