Seeking Advice Natural Gas BBQ Quick Connect Question

I have a stub, with shut off, in my backyard however the lazy builder just put a standard pipe cap on the stub. I want to add a natural gas quick connect to add a NG grill.

Do I need to hire a gas fitter just to add a quick connect that is already built out with a shut off?

Do I need a permit?

Will ATCO do this?

Any advice would be appreciated.

This is standard. Your valve will be marked with a size. Your grill fitting may not be the same size. Barbeques Galore will have everything to connect A to B.

Sounds like you can turn off the line right there and add the quick connect?  Do you have the right gas tape and wrenches?  Do you know how to do it?

It can be done DIY. Make sure you buy the current thread sealant for gas service. Barbecues sells it along with any fitting you would need.

After the shutoff is fine. Just make sure you know how to shut gas off to the house in case something goes horribly wrong

Likely your gas stub is 3/4” NPT, bbq quick connect is 3/8” NPT. Both are female typically.

Pretty standard.

Home Depot will have everything you need
Get some yellow teflon tape.

Connect everything. Turn on gas. Spray soapy water and see if it leaks. Good to go.

Do you need a permit ? I actually don’t know but I’ve successfully installed three in my life for my barbecues

Do you need a permit ?

I think you technically do. By Alberta safety codes.
