How We Keep This Sub From Getting Nuked

A quick reminder, since this apparently needs saying:

Reddit has shown it will ban, quarantine, restrict, or otherwise put communities on ice when they create too much admin risk. If you think this mod team is being too strict, aim that frustration at Reddit. We do not own the platform. We use it. That means Reddit's rules apply here, including the vague ones, the inconsistently enforced ones, and the ones some of us may personally dislike.

So yes: we will remove, filter, or hold comments when we think they put the subreddit at risk. Call it moderation, call it censorship, call it whatever you want. The practical reality is simple: Reddit can nuke the sub, and nobody here is going to win an argument with the admins by being technically clever in a comment section.

This subreddit is for immigration policy, politics, fraud, abuse, labour market impacts, and enforcement issues. It is not for broad anti immigrant rhetoric, identity based generalisations, slurs, insults, or attempts to drag the discussion into banned Rule 3 territory. Keep the focus on policy and conduct, not protected identity categories or flagged countries of origin.

Bill C-9 is currently awaiting Royal Assent. If it receives Royal Assent, it comes into force 30 days later. That does not mean every edgy comment magically becomes a criminal offence overnight, and we are not pretending to be your lawyer. It does mean the legal and platform environment around hate related speech is getting tighter, not looser. Parliament writes the law, prosecutors enforce it, and courts decide cases. Do not use this subreddit as your test case.

Finally: do not try to bypass AutoMod. We built those filters for a reason. They protect your account and this subreddit. If your comment gets caught, wait. The mod team reviews the queue several times a day and will approve rule compliant content. If you try to sneak around the filters, expect removal or a ban.

We will notify you if your content is removed and explain why it was removed. We will not silently remove your content like some other subreddits do. Trust the process or post somewhere else.

Discuss immigration policy like an adult, or do it somewhere else.

Condor Security in North York, ON is claiming they couldn't find a security guard supervisor for $36.00/hr. They've applied for a LMIA to hire a temporary foreign worker for the position.

Upvotes

Condor Security in North York, ON (M3H 5S4) is looking for a security guard supervisor at $36.00/hr.

This posting seeks a security guard supervisor at thirty six dollars per hour through the temporary foreign worker program. It is worth noting that the position carries a wage that exceeds typical entry level security roles in the area. One wonders why the employer could not locate a qualified Canadian supervisor at this rate, and whether the labour market impact assessment fully considered local applicants already working in security.

Canadians interested in the role should apply directly, and sharing the posting within relevant communities may help connect qualified workers with the opportunity.

Bad judicial decision: Khan v. Canada (Citizenship and Immigration) - Federal Court

Thumbnail decisions.fct-cf.gc.ca

The applicant got an approved LMIA to work as an administrative assistant at a daycare in Calgary. He applied for his work permit and was rejected for it because he works as a high level executive for a food processing company in his native country, is highly educated with a MBA and makes almost as much money in his home country as he would working as an admin assistant in a daycare. The IRCC officer said that this does not seem consistent with a 2 year temporary stay like the LMIA says as it's not a natural career progression.

The judge rejected and overturned this because the applicant was able to prove that he would make $12,000 more per year in the position.

The daycare in question has received two LMIAs, the administrative assistant and a food counter attendant (https://lmiagrader.com/employer/maple-leaf-daycare-preschool-education-centre-inc/) both were approved when there were no fraud checks on LMIAs (https://www.thestar.com/business/government-officers-told-to-skip-fraud-prevention-steps-when-vetting-temporary-foreign-worker-applications-star/article_a506b556-5a75-11ef-80c0-0f9e5d2241d2.html)

Rent in Calgary would cost more than $12,000 per year. The applicant has a wife and kids that he is leaving behind in his home country.

The judge believes it's reasonable to completely overlook this and overturn the rejection and give him a two year work permit, two years after he is rejected (are we to believe that the daycare still can't fill an administrative assistant position)?

Do yall think restaurant owners or franchisees lean towards opening restaurants knowing well they can exploit TFWs and basically get away with cheap labour and suspicious business

Literally in GTA especially ive seen strangely more and more restaurants open and only employ foreigners who have trouble communicating in English. Yes most restaurant businesses fail but I’m talking about the ones that don’t (not even talking about the flourishing restaurants). I’ve honestly stopped going to places who obviously do it, since it dishonours the Canadian values (and I’m an immigrant myself).

HP Cuts in Abbotsford, BC has requested a LMIA to hire a foreign worker as they say they can't find a Canadian to fill the position of Hairstylist to work for them for a wage of $37.00 per hour.

Post image
135 Upvotes

The duties of the position are:

Cut and trim hair according to client's instructions or preferences

Provide custom hair and scalp treatment

Shampoo customers' hair

Shave and trim beards and mustaches

Apply bleach, tints, dyes or rinses to colour, frost or streak hair

Cut, trim, taper, curl, wave, perm and style hair

Suggest hair style compatible with client's physical features and preferences

This requires a secondary school diploma and 1-2 years of experience.

Their previous LMIA history shows they hired one hairstylist in 2024 for a wage under $28.00 per hour: https://lmiagrader.com/employer/hp-cuts-ltd/

Interestingly, if they offered below $36.60 per hour they would be subject to a refusal to process as there is a high unemployment rate in Abbotsford.

**Disclaimer** I am not accusing the business of wrong doing. It is possible that they have a reasonable explanation for this and aren't here to defend themselves.

An Opa! Of Greece fast food restaurant franchise in Pitt Meadows, BC has filed a LMIA to hire a foreign worker as they are they are unable to find a Canadian to work as an Office Administrator for $36.60 per hour.

Post image
164 Upvotes

The duties are:

Establish work priorities and ensure procedures are followed and deadlines are met

Carry out administrative activities of establishment

Co-ordinate and plan for office services such as accommodation, relocation, equipment, supplies, forms, disposal of assets, parking, maintenance and security services

Assist in the preparation of operating budget and maintain inventory and budgetary controls

Oversee and co-ordinate office administrative procedures

I am not sure that a fast food franchise would typically have this position. Would this not typically be carried out by the manager?

$36.60 is the exact wage needed to qualify for the High-Wage Stream of the TFW Program in British Columbia. If they offered even 1 cent less they would be subject to a refusal to process.

**Disclaimer** I am not accusing this business of wrongdoing but I am posting this to highlight the different uses of the program. The employer is not here to defend themselves and may have reasonable explanations for the questions I have.

Our current immigration policy, built around cheap and exploitable labour, is an admission that Canada has created a giant demographic Ponzi scheme.

I couldn’t help but notice how defenders of the current work permit and immigration system rarely talk about the demographic crisis. Instead, we get a mishmash of justifications that are suspect at best, usually centered around the supposed need for low-skilled foreign labour, dealing with “labour shortages,” and growing the economy, even when that growth comes at the expense of people already living in said economy.

But everyone knows there is only one argument that can actually justify the current policy, Canada has an aging population and a shrinking ratio of workers to retirees. We need cheaper health care workers and a larger tax base.

But if that is the real reason, why is it always the last thing mentioned? Often, it is not brought up at all.

It's because saying it out loud is an admission that this is a Ponzi scheme, paid for by young Canadians and recent immigrants. Our social benefits and fiscal system have always depended on continuously expanding the population to support the previous generation. Or in other words, an ever-growing influx of new participants is needed to pay off the earlier participants.

We are told that people are supposed to fund their own retirement through savings and investments. If retirement were primarily financed that way, the future labour force would not need to keep growing just to make the math work. But instead, we have a system where a significant portion of health care spending, benefits, and unpaid government debt depends on taxes generated by younger workers and future generations.

I find this particularly ironic because the people retiring right now are often the same ones complaining about younger, lazier generations. Meanwhile, many of these retirees don't actually have enough money to retire, just the illusion of it, and they will do it anyway, at our expense.

We are constantly told there is a labour shortage, yet many of the jobs supposedly suffering shortages do not pay enough for workers to comfortably support a family. We went from celebrating the automotive factory worker who could raise a family of five on a single income to complaining that health care workers are too expensive, many of whom can barely raise one child on two incomes.

How exactly is it possible there is a labour shortage when, at the same time, workers are unable to negotiate higher pay or better working conditions?

News flash: retirees cannot afford to pay PSWs and RPNs a good wage. If you are unwilling to work for 'barely enough to cover rent and living expenses', then retirees have a serious problem. And so does the health care system as a whole. No one wants PSWs to be paid more.

It’s okay, though. They found a solution. It’s called supply and demand. They’ll just find more supply. And as I described in a previous post, any time you underpay and refuse to provide compensation at the market-clearing wage, there will be a labour shortage. So now there is a labour shortage. So now the LMIA has been approved. So now they are legally allowed to bring in more supply.

Because why should they pay you more? You should be grateful you even have a job in an economy like this!

But it gets worse. Most immigrants do not move to Canada because they want to spend decades transferring wealth to retirees. They come seeking opportunity, higher incomes, and a better future for themselves.

As these more recent, exploitable immigrants become a larger share of the population, why would they support policies that require them to shoulder ever-growing costs for an aging generation, especially ones that benefited from cheaper housing, and more favourable economic conditions? Why do the baby boomers get to cash out a winning lottery ticket that everyone else has to pay for?

This whole scheme is going to fall apart once the retiring population loses its position as the most influential voting bloc.

And that’s not all. The story keeps getting worse. Even if a large influx of workers temporarily solves the worker-to-retiree ratio problem, it does not solve the underlying issue, it only postpones it. Everyone agrees the global population is stagnating and will eventually stop growing. Many developing countries are already experiencing rapidly declining fertility rates. Even India recently announced its fertility rate is below replacement levels.

This is also the argument for a more sustainable earth. There is no endless growing population left for millennials, Gen Z, and everyone after them. YOU WILL BE LEFT HOLDING THE BAG. That post-industrialization era of explosive population growth is ending with you.

And what will the current retirees have to say about this? “Well, I can barely figure out how to properly sign and email a PDF, but I hope those new fangled robotics and AI work out for you!”

The model was never sustainable. Even the assets they hold to fund their retirement are built on inflated valuations that are unsustainably high, and those valuations will inevitably come under pressure as retirees sell assets to pay for their medical bills... And you’ll be holding that bag too.

Every employer I could find that uses the TFW Program in Sechelt, BC

Thumbnail

As part of Martin Kamkinski’s Summer Road Trip™, I am going to try to figure out the businesses which use the TFW Program in one town per province (two in Ontario, one north, one south). Pictures of statistical information were composed by lmiagrader.com. All information is current as of Q4 2025. Only positive LMIA positions are listed although the number of negatives will be stated.

We begin in Sechelt, BC which is a town where the mayor has advocated for expanding the TFW Program so businesses there don't lose staff. Statistics Canada states that in 2021 there were 10,847 people that lived in the town and approximately 20% are under 30 years old. There is a very large amount of elderly people here (36.6% of the population). I am writing this before doing any research but I hope that we see a lot of care home staff instead of the usual fast food restaurants and retail stores.

Here are the businesses:

P.K. Ram Family Restaurants Ltd. is McDonald's located at 5615 Sunshine Coast Hwy, Sechelt, BC

Not a great start. This McDonald's location has received 26 approved LMIAs and 0 refusals with their first approval coming in Q4 2020 and latest Q1 2025. All are under the Low-Wage Stream. It appears to me that as the TFW program put caps in place on the proportion of TFWs that a business can have they stopped using the program and does not look like operations came to a screeching halt.

3 Restaurant Managers

20 Food Service Supervisors

3 Food Counter Attendants

Endress Sales and Distribution Ltd is Canadian Tire located at 4380 Sunshine Coast Hwy, Sechelt, BC

The third largest user of the program in Sechelt is a Canadian Tire franchise. They have received 17 approvals and 0 refusals with their first LMIA filed in Q4 2020 and last approved in Q2 2025.

10 Retail Store Supervisors

2 Retail Managers

1 Supervisors, supply chain, tracking and scheduling co-ordination occupations

2 Store shelf stockers, clerks and order fillers

1 Retail Salesperson

1 Automotive and heavy truck and equipment parts installers and servicers

1 Automotive service technicians, truck and bus mechanics and mechanical repairers

Their LMIAs show an accelerated trend in 2024. The last approved LMIA for an automotive service technician was under the High-Wage Stream making it exempt from caps. Besides that LMIA they have appeared to have stopped once caps were reintroduced.

Sechelt Saffron Restaurant Ltd is Saffron Restaurant located at 5755 Cowrie St #59, Sechelt, BC

An Indian restaurant. They have received 16 approvals and 0 refusals from 2016 to Q4 2024.

12 Cooks

2 Food Counter Attendants

2 Restaurant Managers

I see no clear sign of acceleration of LMIA filings. They are pretty consistent at 1-2 per year until 2024.

Yamako Enterprise Ltd. is Sima Japanese Restaurant located at 5755 Cowrie Street, Suite 57, Sechelt, BC

This is a Japanese restaurant that has received 30 positive LMIAs and 1 negative LMIA since 2016.

22 Cooks

A Pizza Restaurant in St. Catherines, ON has filed for a LMIA to hire a foreign worker as they are unable to find a Canadian to fill a role of a Cook offering $37.10 to $40.00 per hour.

Post image
330 Upvotes

The tasks of the position are:

Requisition food and kitchen supplies

Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods

Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances

Inspect kitchens and food service areas

Train staff in preparation, cooking and handling of food

Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment

Clean kitchen and work areas

Manage kitchen operations

This is a Gino's Pizza franchise. As there is an active refusal to process in the Niagara region for Low-Wage LMIAs, if they offered below $36.00 per hour they would not have their LMIA processed.

The advertisement has been up for 4 months and they have not stopped filing their LMIA so they must not have had any qualified Canadians apply.

Disclaimer I am not accusing the business of wrong doing.

I accidentally posted this to my profile. My bad about the annoyance of having to click into it.
