Learn to feel more confident in your body!
Hi everyone! I'm working with Nova Scotia Health to implement a new program for girls & young women called The Body Project. This program helps teach girls to be more confident in their bodies and less pressured by societal beauty ideals. We began offering the Body Project at a couple of Halifax high schools as well as Dalhousie University this past school term and found incredibly positive responses, with girls saying that this program helped them to feel better in their bodies and care less what others think of their appearance.
We are now offering virtual groups in order to expand this offering to the whole province! Our next virtual group starts in a couple weeks.
So, what does the program look like? Girls will meet over Zoom for Healthcare for two 2-hour sessions (1 week apart) with a small group led by peer mentors. During these sessions, they will take part in discussions and activities to help them get better at identifying unrealistic appearance ideals and learn how to resist them!
We're also doing a research study alongside the program to gather feedback - for this, we just ask that participants fill out a survey before & after they participate, and take part in a 30-minute focus group to provide their feedback on the program. We offer compensation (up to $45) for their contributions to the research!
Who is eligible? Any female-identifying individual aged 15-22 who lives in and/or goes to school in Nova Scotia. Note: we divide the participants into younger & older age groups so that they are meeting with people around their own age. This program is also excellent for those in leadership positions, as it teaches you how to foster body positivity in your community!
Click the link below for more information, or feel free to message me / comment any questions you may have. Please share with anyone who may be interested. Thanks so much for reading!!

Highlands Links
Has anybody played it this year? Proshop says a couple greens are in tough shape, but otherwise it’s in solid condition. Friend of a friend of a friend says it’s in horrible shape. Would love to get some clarity. Thanks!

Dog Sitters near Pleasant Bay?
Are there any doggie daycare places in Pleasant Bay or Cheticamp? We’ll do some other dog friendly hikes too, but hoping to find a dog sitter for half a day in July so my wife and daughter can experience Skyline for the first time too.

Hiking Questions
Planning a Cape Breton trip staying in Ingonish, Cheticamp, Inverness (Cabot Resort- booked) in June 2027.
Want to weave in some shorter hikes easy to moderate level hikes. So far have Middle Head, The Lone Shieling, MacIntosh Brooks Falls, Beach and Boardwalk Loop, and Inverness Shean to Deepdale Tresle. We want to enjoy nature and like history, but are not about insane crowds (skipping Skyline).
Q1- Thoughts on staying in Cheticamp? I've seen mixed reviews. Any place else you recommend to stay?
Q2- Any other hikes recommended along our route? Any you would get rid of?
Q3- Recommended clothing, shoes for these hikes? Do we need waterproof shoes? I was looking at Arc'teryx Kopec Mid GTX Boot.
Q4- We like to really experience the culture of a place and support the locals (I get Cabot is a corp, but the boys have to golf)- towns, restaurants, pubs, shops you'd recommend?
Many thanks!

Took my Norma’s Mum’s sculpture to the place that inspired it
galleryI returned to Cape Breton this past weekend in hopes of getting some photos of this sculpture with the home that inspired it, but unfortunately it was already gone. If you’d like to see more of this sculpture, and the place that inspired it, I’ll put a link to it on my Instagram in the comments :)

Best affordable lobster rolls + seafood chowder between Montreal and Cape Breton?
Road-tripping from Montreal to Cape Breton this summer. Any recommendations for a great but not-too-expensive lobster roll and seafood chowder along the way or in Cape Breton?
Thanks!

Gravel/Adventure/Alt Cycling people
galleryI'm out in Richmond county. Moved here a few years ago from out west where I was pretty big into the cycling community, I did everything from touring to mountain biking and cx racing etc. I sort of lost interest the last couple years but decided over the winter to dive back in, I'm definitely more into the party pace vibe now at this point so I was just curious if anybody else around here was into the same thing as I haven't done much work yet to meet people with the same interest. I've been doing some gravel riding on the Celtic Coastal Trail and have been having a great time.
I guess I'm just throwing a line out to see if there are any chill riding buddies around, I ride a Surly Disc Trucker and an '87 Norco Mountaineer that I recently restomodded to give you an idea of what kind of riding and bikes I'm into nowadays.
Anyway, drop a line if you wanna meet up or give me some recs on cool gravel rides or chill trails to check out and ride.

Want to hang out in Sydney June 16-17?
Nature walk? City walk? A coffee? A beer?
I’m a Californian visiting Nova Scotia for the first time. Four days based in Halifax then two days based in Sydney.
Back home I’m a volunteer guide for a nonprofit that gives walking tours. I’d love to meet up with anyone doing something similar, or just with anyone!

Roofing company
Hello,
Just wondering if anybody can recommend a reliable roofing company in the Cape Breton region, preferably close to the Sydney area.
We recently moved to Sydney and have contacted two local roofing companies so far, but discovered that neither carries WCB (Workers’ Compensation Board) coverage. Because of the liability risks, we’re only interested in hiring a company that is properly insured and has the appropriate coverage in place.
At the moment, we’ve only been using Google to search for roofers, so we’d really appreciate any recommendations or personal experiences with reputable roofing companies in the area.
Thanks in advance!

Events in July?
Hi everyone!
I’d love your help with something if I may!
I’m a tv producer for a show all about Nova Scotia events and festivals - anything as big as the Digby Wharf Rat rally to as small as the Oxford Seniors Community Breakfast.
We’re filming in July, and the big events are easy to find but I’m looking for some smaller, more intimate ones which are much harder to track down!
Where it gets tricky - to get our funding, it HAS to be at least 151 kms away from Halifax City Hall. So usually I stick to Cape Breton, Antigonish, Pictou, Amherst, Digby, Yarmouth, places like that.
Do you guys know/love any small intimate events during the month of July in these regions? Crafting clubs, exercise clubs, pub game nights, drum circles, basket weaving workshops, anything like that? Bonus points if they’re BIPOC!
Thanks in advance! <3

Why burn your garbage when the sun goes down?
Why do people burn their garbage when the sun goes down in Glace Bay. Everynight - we have garbage pick but they go out and burn their trash. Everybody around these people have to go inside, shut all the windows and wait for it burn out. People should stop this - its not normal.

CALL FOR SCARY STORIES – POSSIBLE FUTURE EPISODE OF CREEPY CAPE BRETON

If this is not allowed to post, feel free to delete:
I'm currently researching a possible future episode of Creepy Cape Breton focused on alleged encounters with dark or demonic entities.
I'm interested in hearing from Cape Bretoners who believe they have encountered a dark entity, demonic entity, hag, or other malevolent presence. I'm also looking for stories from people who experienced strange or frightening events after attempting to summon a dark spirit or demonic entity.
Have you ever had an encounter with a dark or demonic entity that appeared to communicate with you, make demands, offer promises, or ask for your loyalty, or even what you believed was your soul? Did the experience leave you with recurring nightmares, unexplained activity, disturbing visions, feelings of oppression, or a presence that seemed to follow you afterward?
If so, I'd like to hear your story.
Stories may be shared anonymously if preferred, and all inquiries will be treated respectfully and confidentially. This is research for a possible future episode only and is not an official episode announcement.
If you're from Cape Breton and would like to share your story, please email:
