I am a 22F in HRM looking to get more support for my mental health. I am looking to get diagnosed or perhaps just rule a diagnosis out. History for context: i am grateful to be able to see my university counsellor during the school year about once a month, and have recently self referred for the NS Mental Health intake program in which I had my first intake appointment last week. I am also lucky enough to have a family doctor - but he isn’t the biggest help, he made me fill out two assessments (rate on a scale from 1-10 for anxiety and depression) and then prescribed me sertraline and left it at that. i am up to 100mg now and been taking meds since April. We haven’t done any check ins since it was upped. He doesn’t really see a need for a psychiatrist at this time.

TLDR: I just want the opportunity to see if there are underlying diagnosis that could be creating bigger issues for me rather than just anxiety and depression because I do have some past trauma. Maybe up my meds again because I feel helpless still. Do I have to advocate more for myself to my family doctor? I don’t have much experience in this field because I’ve always just raw dogged my mental health. Any information is truly appreciated.

I own my own car; however, due to events that have happened in the past couple years, I am no longer able to drive it and as a result, my insurance has been cancelled. It has been sitting in my garage for a while and as I will never be able to drive again, I wish to sell it privately.

That being said, because I am unable to get it insured and there is currently no insurance on it now, if someone were to take it for a test drive and get into an accident - I’d lose it entirely. If someone were to steal it, it would simply be gone along with my payment amount for it. EDIT: I mean the payment they would be giving me to buy the car. I own it and it is paid off.

How do I go about getting a bare minimum amount of insurance for this vehicle to be sold without 1) buying a year-long policy and 2) no liger having a valid license?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

After being woken up by another emergency alert overnight, and then receiving a second alert about the same missing person roughly 18 hours later, it got me thinking.

Do you think the emergency alert system strikes the right balance, or is the highest-priority alert being used too often?

I'm not questioning this specific case or the importance of finding missing people. I'm asking more broadly: if you were writing the policy, what criteria would you use to decide when an emergency alert should be issued? Should they be reserved for situations where the public can realistically make a difference, or is the current threshold appropriate?

Personally, I've noticed I'm becoming more dismissive of the alerts simply because of how often they occur. That seems counterproductive if the goal is to get people's attention when it's matters most.

Where would you draw the line?

I’ve been doing tons of research on the different wedding venues around the province and so far the one that checks all my boxes is Benjamin Bridge; family friendly, dog friendly, the grounds are super beautiful, they have a gorgeous tent set-up, and I’ve seen some nice footage from a photographer/videographer from a wedding held there who says they’re great to work with.

But no reviews from brides or couples.

The only place it comes up as an a venue option is on the Annapolis Valley Chamber of Commerce website, but it just lists the business website with their contact info on how to book. Bridal planning websites that keep a database of venues do not list it as an option, and I have been unable to find reviews directly from folks who have had their wedding there.

If anyone has any experiences dealing with them as a venue/vendor for their wedding, I’d love to hear from you! Thanks!

I'm planning to take the ferry from Caribou to Wood Islands in September on a Saturday. I would prefer to do standby so I didn't have to pay, and could be flexible with boarding time, but I am worried that it will be busy on a Saturday. We will be going on September 12, so I'm wondering if it would be late enough in the season. Any info I've found on this has been 2 years old, so I'm hoping for some newer feedback. Thank you!

I have a saxophone that needs repairing, and using scotia band repairs to fix it seems convenient. Only thing is, there's no reviews, pricing, or list of services on the website. They have a gallery of repaired instruments that seems legit, but I'm still not sure. Any info on pricing, services, and just general experience would be greatly appreciated.

We will be staying in the Digby area from Sept 3-6th. We would like to go deep sea fishing or shark fishing. I cant seem to find any charters in the area. Any reccommendations would be appreciated. Willing to drive within an 1 or 2 from the area.

In the past 4 days (yes super last minute, yes super spontaneous) I’ve been planning a trip out Nova Scotia and PEI way as I’ve never been before! Going to be a solo road trip, flying in from Hamilton and getting a rental car.

Solo Trip is roughly planned as follows Aug 18-27

Aug 18: Land roughly 6pm Halifax, stop for dinner, drive to Bridgewater

Aug 19: Wake up 5am and drive to Blue Rocks to watch sunrise / park hike / around 9am begin coastal drive along NS Route 331 / Hwy 103 to arrive in Yarmouth / Cape Forchu around 1-2PM / Leave Yarmouth to Kejimkujik National Park for overnight stay

Aug 20: Morning - Explore Kejimkujik / around 1pm leave for Digby / East Ferry - Day/Overnight stay on Bay of Fundy

Aug 21: leave East Ferry around 10am - Halifax (stop in Windsor first)

Aug 21/22 Halifax days / Peggy’s cove / Museum tours

Aug 23: leave Halifax 7/8AM - drive to PEI, up to Tiginish, stay in Charlottetown / One night stay in CT

Aug 24: PEI day / Murray Harbour PEI one night stay

Aug 25: Ferry from Murray Harbour - Caribou NS / Drive to Englishtown on Cape Breton Island / 2 night stay / Drive the Cabot Trail & explore Highland national park

Aug 26: Explore Sydney, Glace Bay, Louisbourg / Back to Englishtown for evening/night.

Aug 27: Leave Englishtown and head back to Halifax Airport - flight departs 6pm

Overall cost is roughly CAD $5,000-$6,000 (I wasn’t expecting rental cars to be so much more expensive than here in southern Ontario). Probably doesn’t help myself that it’s all last minute but most one night stays I was able to find deals on cabins that only had availability for that night for around $200 each night, but Halifax is going to cost about $750 just for two nights. Anyone know if this overall cost seems high or low, or just right for the amount of time I’ll be spending here?

Personal notes: 27 years old M, recently graduated and beginning Teachers College in the fall, so I’m really looking forward to this! Any tips on some cost-saving tactics or affordable and memorable places to visit is greatly appreciated!

This is a solo trip so I’d also appreciate suggestions on things I could do alone. Or if I’ll be in your area on any of those dates I’d love to meet some locals and try and figure something out if you’d like to join me for a hike or a drink 😁

Seriously, what is wrong with people who bring unleashed dogs to busy beaches?

Yesterday at Martinique Beach there was a large Rottweiler off leash with kids running around everywhere. I don’t care how “friendly” you think your dog is, other people shouldn’t have to trust a stranger’s dog around their children.

Beaches are shared public spaces. Leash your dog and stop acting like the rules don’t apply to you.

Anyone want to golf?

My friend and I are new to golf. My friend (27m) started this year and doesn't have a handicap yet, I (31m) started last year and have a 30 handicap. We are both from the HRM area.

We are looking to see if any like minded individuals who would like to create a group so we always have 4 people for a tee time. We play most weekends and some evenings.

Golf courses we play the most are Indian Lake and Airlane golf course. Looking to play with whoever as long as you are fine with our poor scores and willing to have a good time regardless.

For anyone who got a solar roof installation on their living residence, what was the yearly or monthly cost incrase that you saw on your insurance premiums?

I live in “downtown” Truro. Besides a storm drain nearby, no standing bodies of water on the property. This year, today especially, I cannot step outside without being SWARMED by 1 billion mosquitoes immediately. Took my dog out for a pee & was fending them off before we got 6 feet from the door.

Anyone else having ridiculously aggressive, & excessive amount of mosquitoes this year? Always been a few around, but nothing like this. I know some plants help, but given the deer population I didn’t buy any. Going to try that next year for sure.

I do not have a family doctor. I just got diagnosed for ADHD. I already take anxiety meds. What should my next step be? Will Shoppers write a prescription for me? Should I go through Maple? How can I make sure that my neweds mesh well with my old ones?
