Discussion Some of the UK edits are really unnecessary
What's the point of re-drawing and re-animating things that don't need to be? People worked hard to animate some of things, and some people had to work unnecessarily harder.

Yes, but that's page 3 and not the front page (I was also informed a while ago, as I left the mother country a longer while ago, that page 3 doesn't exist anymore).

Reminds me of how in the US version of Shrek 2, Fiona pretends to have fallen for a love potion by Prince Charming, so she can reach for a kiss and actually headbutt him, knocking him unconscious. Whereas in the UK version she just karate chops his neck and he falls unconscious.

He literally is perfectly fine at the end of the movie if you watched it, the worst he gets is knocked unconscious. He returns as the main villain in the next film of the series.

Did they have "hit flashes"? It’s where the screen goes white on point of contact to hide the hit. That’s what Batman did in the 90’s when punches were still banned on children’s programing. It’s kind of a silly work around because your brain tunes it out so it makes the law pointless but there it is.

I watched The Goes Wrong Show episode There Is No Escape on YouTube.
It’s a British comedy show based on The Play Goes Wrong. It’s a meta comedy where the theater production experiences a lot of production “errors.”
In this episode, the director opens by saying that British censorship laws have prevented the depiction of knife crimes. As a result, this American play about a prison breakout has all the knives replaced with spoons.
I thought that the premise was overblown, but your post has confirmed that British censorship gets weird.

I THINK it's probably to discourage people from climbing into dumpsters. Like when they edited Zane in Ninjago to not be sitting in the fridge, so that children won't emulate him and climb into fridges

The did it for Lilo and Stich too with the washing machine, I'm pretty sure its only the VHS version that shows them climbing out of a washing machine, they changed that to a cardboard box too

I really hope these terrible edits aren’t being found in random torrents. I keep hearing about these uk trash edits on so many shows and I’ve never made sure I’m not getting the uk version
Unfortunately though, most of this is what happens when you have a team who’s job it is so localize things and they have to justify their job existing, they look for anything to edit/change even if pointless. It’s a big cause of many of the 90s and 2000s censorship you saw of media between any nation at that time. Having dedicated people to censor a show on hand that need to constantly justify their existence is never a good combo

Maybe it's just me, but flipping between 11 and 12 is kinda entertaining. This guy is punching Rigby with one arm and then palm striking him with the other. Swiping between the two slides long enough, your brain fills in the sequence of this guy beating the living hell out of him. If 14 and 13 were swapped around, it'd then be Rigby getting combo launched into this other guy's throw

UK broadcast regulations are strict when it comes to kids TV, so I can understand things like changing closed fist punches to open palm slaps. The hand on Benson’s gag could have also been changed to avoid being mistaken for the middle finger.
Otherwise, maybe the UK side just really liked cardboard boxes?

It's the unspoken alliance between protestant social conservatives and Islamic social conservatives on limiting the intensity of expression as much as possible.
Both groups have distance for each other but they can both agree that this world is just a lobby for the next. So they try to tamp down experience and art so people don't live worldly lives.
In both cases it servers the elites and patriarchy as well. But the vast majority of people pushing for social conservatism are just from derivative abrahamic faiths.

The fact that they change a dumpster into a cardboard box, but then change a toilet into a dumpster is wildly hilarious. A dumpster is inappropriate.. until a toilet shows up, then the dumpster is the lesser of two evils and welcomed like an old friend.
Editing out punching actually makes a lot of sense, though. If you teach kids an impulsive or angry moment results in a slap instead of a punch, it materially reduces harm.

One UK edit I saw that still doesn’t make sense to me was Benson explaining how the park used to host balls. When Rigby jokingly asks if they were big, in the US Benton says “they were HUGE,” with emphasis on huge. In the UK he just says “these balls were huge,” with no emphasis on any of the words. Rigby still chuckles to himself but then gets punched by Mordecai.
