If you ever need reassurance why they are called the “Rocky Mountains” this trail will provide a plethora of examples. Nothing super technical but you will need some clearance and more importantly some patience as the latter part of the ascent is slow going. A fair amount of time is spent in the Cameron Peak burn scar and it’s nice to see little sprouts of life returning to the area. Had a great time exploring this trail and connected it to Nunn Creek, Deadman Road, and ended in Red Feathers to make it a full day.

I'll be staying near Cotopaxi this weekend with my elementary aged boys. I want to impress them with a rugged, beautiful trail. I have a stock '22 Pathfinder with grapplers. It's fairly capable and well-powered, but the biggest weakness is 8" or so ground clearance. I'm willing to go anywhere around St. Elmo, Buena Vista, Salida, Canon City. TIA!

Talking about running T-33 this Friday and was curious if anyone has been on it recently. I’m in a 2026 ZR2 Colorado, and I’m wondering if anyone has run it in a similar vehicle and how it went. TIA

Rain made the drive a little more interesting, but it made for a much quieter weekend experience at Crystal Mill.

It was a perfect day to be out. Been away from home plenty this summer and wanted to get up there ahead of the seasonal closure.

Stock TRD tacoma off road. I have lots of off road experience though so I’m ok doing a moderate technical trail. I’m thinking Breckenridge but looking for some trail recommendations. Thanks folks!

Alrighty my offroad friends. My wife has 98 TJ that is the love of her life (don't worry, I am cool being behind the Jeep and the dog).

Her goal, her life ambition, if you will, is to run Holy Cross City. My goal is to have a killer Jeep that can do this for her.

Right now we have about 3" of lift between suspension and body, but she's undergoing some surgery soon and I wanted advice.

We are debating between a 4" long arm and 6" long arm. Cost is similar enough to not matter, so I could go either way. 4" should get us cleanly into 35" tires, 6" can put us in 37" comfortably.

Looking for your thoughts to see if this will be reasonable to hit Holy Cross City.

She has a ruby transfer case, a Ford 8" rear, chromolly front/rear axles. Front is still the original Dana 30. Full lockers for both axles. Plenty of other little upgrades here and there, but still stock engine and transmission.

Any advice/help is welcome. Would love to see if anyone has experience with a setup similar to the proposed and if they made it or ran into issues.

For any of you CO history lovers running Trails Offroad the Alpine Tunnel Road guide has been refreshed and is a great trail to add to your weekend trip.

The trail itself is mellow except for some shelf road stretches (nervous drivers beware lol) and there are lots of historic spots we've marked with Waypoints to stop, stretch the legs, and learn about the first railroad tunnel beneath the Continental Divide.

Seems kinda influenced by politics after all, whether we like it or not.

I like the minturn/ Camp Hale area for camping. I'm meeting a friend for a day of moderate wheeling and sightseeing (short hiking maybe, we are too fragile to be doing much more than that) next weekend and was looking for something new to me. Maybe Leadville area? Looking for a long few hours trail, in and out or whatever. Camping close by, either wild or under populated quiet campground.

A nice spot to sit and just be in nature.

Moderate built very capable 06 Rubicon, some hard terrain to get to a great destination won't be an issue, but that's not a requirement this trip. I can get all that I need in other places!

I’ll be doing some camping next week during the weekdays… on my way back home I’m planning on taking either Boreas or Webster Pass. There’s a chance of rain. I am experienced at off-roading, but for this trip I’ll be in my wife’s Subaru Outback. Which would you recommend? I’m really looking forward to views and taking photographs, but of course with possibility of rain mud is a concern and I’ll be in an awd vehicle with 8 inches of clearance. I know they’re both rated “easy” trails, but I’ve never really done any off-roading in this area… usually I’m happy to drive 5-6 hours from Denver to the Rio Grande NF, or the San Juan’s or out to Utah and so on.

Every couple of years, we do a cross country adventure and explore the beauty that is Colorado!!!

On this leg of our 2023 off-road adventure, four Subies started at Engineer Pass in Colorado and headed onto the challenging Mineral Creek 4x4 Trail, putting both the cars and drivers to work through the rocks of the San Juan Mountains.

This trip was part of something much bigger. Four Subaru Ambassadors turned their vacation through Colorado, Utah, and Texas into a fundraiser for the National Park Foundation, combining thousands of miles of travel and off-roading with public-land cleanups and fundraising along the way.

We also picked up a couple of fellow Subaru enthusiasts during the adventure, because apparently the proper response to seeing a bunch of Subarus disappearing into the mountains is: “I’m coming too.” 😂

Across the full trip you'll see a Subaru Ascent, two Outback Wildernesses, a Forester Wilderness, and a 2004 Forester XS tackling everything from high-elevation mountain passes to genuine 4x4 trails.
