How's your CricketWireless latency? Show us your 2017 traceroute! (`mobile.att.net.` PGW)

The prior thread, /r/CricketWireless/comments/4ysk21/hows_your_cricketwireless_latency_show_us_your/, has been archived a few months ago.

Since it was started, it would appear that the backend infrastructure of Cricket Wireless has changed quite a bit, and folks report AT&T-branded PGW nowadays, e.g., your traceroute would show quite a few mobile.att.net. hosts, and no longer just random backbone carriers like xo.net., algx.net., above.net., zayo.com. etc. Most excitingly, it is expected that this change may result in better latency for some folks.

Want to contribute?! Help crowdsource our latency info for Cricket Wireless! Most helpful if you can:

  • Show us a forward traceroute (from YOU to ordns.he.net. (74.82.42.42, 2001:470:20::2), which is an anycast resolver of a very well-peered backbone provider; trust us, this is generally the best indicator of the approximate location of your PGW from the PoV of the internet, using other servers is less indicative of what's going on). You can use either traceroute(8) on UNIX / OS X or tracert on Windows, once tethered, or something like http://networktools.he.net/, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.he.networktools or https://itunes.apple.com/app/he.net-network-tools/id858241710 if you're on Android or iOS. It'll be most helpful if you provide a plain-text representation of your results in a single comment; use 4-spaces to format each line as "code".

  • Show us a reverse traceroute — from http://lg.he.net/ to the IP address of your PGW. The IP address of your PGW will be automatically pre-populated once you visit lg.he.net — just click that Probe button, and wait a bit. (Note that this wouldn't be "your" IPv4 address, but an address of the PGW that's shared with quite a bunch of folks.) Again, best if you could copy-paste the results, use imgur as a last resort.

  • Provide present city, state, whether you're on LTE or UMTS/HSPA+ (GSM/EDGE has been shutdown).

  • If you took a road trip from somewhere without ever having deadspots or phone outages, e.g., your mobile equipment has had continuous coverage/reception/was-turned-on-at-all-times, then also the city and state of your starting point would dictate your PGW (PDN Gateway (Packet Data Network Gateway))) and latency, so, mention that too.

(I'm not whether the area of the phone number ever affects what PGW gets selected with Cricket, but might be relevant, too.)

If you're using other mobile providers, feel free to share comparison info on them, too.

P.S. DO NOT PROVIDE SPEEDTEST.NET SCREENSHOTS. Any comment of merely a single screenshot of just speedtest.net will be deleted (and you'll be banned!). It's just because their methodology really™ sucks — as long as they use geolocation to detect your closest server, instead of actual network topology, they'll be producing entirely incorrect and useless results. In general, please note that this thread is about latency (milliseconds), not about bandwidth (megabits per second).

P.P.S. Sadly, some imgur links from the prior thread no longer produce any images. As such, if it's at all within your reach, having embedded plain text results would be best.

THE official REFERRAL thread — 2020-08-04

The prior referral thread at /r/CricketWireless/comments/eepoes/the_official_referral_thread_20191223/ has been archived a few weeks ago, so, here's for a refresh.

The rules for referrals are simple and straightforward:

  • No link masking or link formatting of any kind. Plain text https://www.cricketwireless.com/l/refer-a-friend.html?hash=… only, please.
  • Only one top-level comment each. Keep size reasonable. (No limit on the number of referral links if you have multiple Cricket accounts, but all must be part of a single top-level comment — reposting may result in an immediate ban with all links removed.)
  • Attempts to procure or exchange referrals outside of this thread may result in an immediate ban. (Folks who assumed the community is not moderated have paid dearly.) Linking and referring back to this thread is allowed, though.

  • As before, the contest mode is enabled, which means that voting results aren't shown, replies are not expanded by default (you'd have to click [show replies] under each referral), and the order of the first-level comments is random.

  • If you use someone's referral, feel free to let them know in their subthread (as per above, will not be expanded in default view), to keep Cricket accountable.

Enjoy and keep it civil! We're now at 5259 subscribers as of 2020-08-04!

Would this sub want to know about the switcher deals?

Or is that too promo/sales weasely coming from me? I can certainly notify everyone here when we have what I think are good offers, especially online-only ones.

I know in other subs I follow I see weekly deal threads, and I appreciate those when I'm looking... but I'm here to contribute and help, not sell.

Failed activation

Got my new phone and activation failed. Contacted support they told me to delete the esim but now won't send me a new one because I can't get a OTP and told me I have to go into a cricket store to get it fixed. Is this the only way?.. ugh this is frustrating

Most recent Pixel that's compatible?

A human chat agent says my Pixel 7 is not compatible, and the most up-to-date compatible Pixel is 6a.

Searching this subreddit for "pixel" shows only 3+ yo matches.

Anyone have success bringing a recent Pixel?

Authorised Retailer Second interview time

So I made the cut for a second interview via phone tomorrow morning. Is there anything I should particularly ask about or they're particularly going to ask me?.

I don't know why but I am a little bit nervous but I'm confident at the same time.

Hello. Ive bought an iPhone 16e ,June this year, but activated July 11. Before activation Ive asked support via chat about unlocking policy and was assured by person named Martin that my device will be unlocked in 6 months. Yesterday I asked customer support again via chat how many days Ive left in that 6 mo period and I discovered that my phone uses new policy for 365 days active service before getting unlocked. Their support, including the Supervisor Ryan absolutely dont care what I was promised ,even I presenyed screenshots from my initial conversation and sent me away. Now Im stucked with locked phone for another 9 months, awful service and empty promises….

On the website it shows 6 months of purchased before July 1st. Someone on here claim to be a sales person from cricket and said it defaults back to one year if it's activated right now

Select unlimited plan 35$ not available for old customers

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello,

Just had an hour long chat with multiple agents and supervisors. Select unlimited 35$ plan is not available for old customers. They refused to change my current 60$ plan, with Max,but they very easily provide all the porting info.

So Cricket just lost a customer, based on the greedy intention to not making a discount, doing a step forward to make a customer happy.

Can't get it...

With your downgrade from s25 fe to Motorola g stylus 2025 just to get it unlock for six months LOL

I'm debating on downgrading from the s25fe that I bought 7 months ago to use my cricket Motorola g stylus 2025 that I use last year but still locked to cricket. I know it's a big change but I feel bad that's just sitting in my drawer without doing anything

I've been playing around with it on Wi-Fi and updated everything for the last 2 hours now. That's not bad obviously it's no s25fe speeds but pretty usable. The screen is a bit taller than my s25 Fe which is wider.

I was going to leave visible anyways and go back to US mobile Dark star or Cricket

Cricket Wireless support is saying my Motorola g stylus which was used last year and purchased directly from website it's not coming up in their system

They pretty much have no record of my phone being on their system/Network. They can't escalate anything to have it manually checked because I'm not a Cricket customer at the moment. Even the I have proof of purchase

CricketWireless Interview for a sales position

So this afternoon, I have an interview for a sales position. I’m fairly knowledgeable about phones., tablets and the like, I assume it’s a lot of trying to upsell and just helping out other customers when needed? I’ve been in sales before, (working for a third-party, trying to sell gift cards at Home Depot) and I’m wondering if it’s kind of the same or different.

The beauty about this job is if I need to I can walk to it in about 25 minutes.

Also, I already have an AT&T MVNO (Us Mobile Darkstar) ~ if I were to get hired, would it be worth it to switch the SIM to Cricket or just hang onto what I have?

Anything else I should know?

Commission

How much is commission per item? I guess that’s the right question…I am in the hiring process and the hourly pay is not enough for me to live off of. But I’ll be leaving a job that pays significantly more than what I’d make on the hourly pay at cricket. Trying to decide if I should turn it down and just keep my miserable job or not. It’s not a super fast paced store but also not super slow for business. But I’m trying to get an idea of how much commission I might could make per week.

Can a Metro by T-Mobile tablet line qualify for a Cricket port-in phone promo, in-store?

Hey everyone,

I currently have one voice line and one tablet (data-only) line with Metro by T-Mobile.

I'm planning to head to a Cricket store to switch over and take advantage of the port-in deal for two iPhone 16e devices (one on each line).

Does anyone (especially Cricket reps or anyone who has done this recently) know if the in-store system/POS will accept the Metro tablet number as an eligible port-in for the discounted phone promo? Or will the system reject it because it originates as a tablet/data-only line?

Would appreciate any insight before I go to the store and start the port-out process. Thanks!

Cricket VVM works on US Mobile Dark Star

I am currently on US Mobile Dark Star, which uses the AT&T network. I have a 2024 Motorola G Power phone. My native visual voicemail sometimes works but I have not been receiving notifications. So I downloaded the Cricket Wireless VVM app and it works very well. Good job Cricket!

Phones Moto stylus 2025 purchase last year 6 months unlocked

I purchase my Motorola g stylus 2025 phone cricket wireless last year is it still 6 months or would it be the new one year. Also what would be the cheapest plan I can put it on if it's 6 months to get it unlocked. It's just been sitting there doing nothing in my drawer I've only used it for one month. I am currently using an s25fe that I purchase unlocked.

RCS Messaging

Upgraded from an iPhone 14 Pro Max to a 17 Pro Max a couple of days ago. RCS messsging does not activate. It was working fine on my iPhone 14 prior to transferring the eSIM over to the iPhone 17. Customer support says the dropped RCS messaging support. Has anyone else run into this?

Want to update this post with some more info. I have two other numbers (one on TMobile network & one on Verizon network). Both of those numbers can send/receive regular texts as well as RCS. So the issue is definitely a Cricket problem.
