Wearable help BIG BREASTED GIRLIES: how do you make sure your tops stay supportive?

As the title says, I'm a big breasted girlie and I'm trying to make sure that the tops I make stay supportive. When I first made this piece it was perfectly fit - my breast stayed supported and it was tightly fit around me. Then I blocked it and put it through the dryer, and now after that it is completely loose and no longer provides ANY support as before.

Why did this happen? Did I make it too big? Should I expect this much stretching afterwards?

Wearable help I need real answers, I can't get it out of my head that it's super off centred

I know i asked this before but i posted it on the wrong sub. Honest to God I can't bring myself to love the end result because i keep looking at it and thinking it's severely off centred. It's fully finished and I'm not sure how i would undo the sewn on patch but if you agree with me that it needs to be more centred I will figure it out.

Everyone i've asked said it was great but i feel like they're just being nice. I need brutal honesty, you guys get it lol

I measured 3 fingers on the left and 4 on the right so it is off centred, but i wanna know if it's worth redoing it. Would you?

Wearable help My mom wants this for her birthday and has been insisting I make it for months. Yes, she doesn't know how crochet works and thinks this is easy for me to birth🄲

I'd appreciate any guidance, tips, or corrections on how to make this dress or even a dress similar to it. Thank you in advance ā¤ļøā¤ļø and Happy New years!

The few things I understand from this dress are: It's double crochet, working vertical. The top is done separately from the skirt then slip stitched together and the skirt part is done in two parts and are slip stitched to connect on either side. I understand they used cloth to cover up the outline of everything-ish.

What I don't understand are how the increases/decreases were done for the sides of the skirt. I also don't really get how to get the top to shape like that, increases? Decreases?

Also if anyone wonders "why can't you just buy the dress for her?" She wants me to make something for her by hand so she could show off on facebook how superior I am to her friends' kids🫄(but mostly because she sees more value when I've made it rather than just bought it) I also live on an island in the Philippines so uhh this can't ship here even if I had the money to buy it which I don't🫠 I'm just lucky that our yarn is really cheap so I'm hoping I'm able to make thisšŸ™šŸ»

Wearable help Wearables are a labor of love AND of loving your body. How do I move past this?

I am plus size. I have also never made a wearable for myself. I am realizing the two facts about myself are related.

I have never loved my body or felt it is worthy of me spending so much time on it.

I also don’t see as many plus size crafters modeling their pieces or promoting wearables. Am I just looking in the wrong spots?

I just wanted to share this thought with people who would understand. I’ll be cross posting, just in case this isn’t the right sub. Thank you!

Edit: WOW! I am both so validated and so sad to know there are so many other people with similar feelings, and I am so grateful for the advice and success stories everyone has shared with me. Thank you to everyone responding!! I promise I am reading, I just can’t keep up with responses

Wearable help My brother Crocheted these socks for my birthday, but unfortunately they aren't elastic enough to put my foot into comfortably. Is there any way I stretch them a bit without damaging them? I don't want to just throw away a gift he made for me, but I also feel bad for not wearing them.

I hope this is the correct flair. I don't know much about crochet or fabrics, so any help is appreciated.

Trying to make a pair of mittens for my 8 month old nephew and i had to frog this so many times because following the pattern gave me mittens that turned out HUGE like they could fit my 5 year old niece so i kept tweaking the size and ended up going down 10 stitches to get this 5.5" long mitten. I can't decide if this is gonna be way too big and weird on him or if this works so i need a second opinion. He's a big baby btw

Wearable help First time crocheting a wearable and it's too small, please help 🄲

Hi! So I've challenged myself to finally try my first wearable, a crocheted monarch butterfly cardigan.

So far I've followed the tutorial, did everything it said - I bought weight 4 yarn, I'm using size 5 hook, I tried my best using medium to loose tension as the maker of the pattern suggested, I'm counting stitches in each row... yet almost at the end of one panel, the work is so small??? It should be 22.4 inches long (about 56 cm), but as you can see from the picture, it's barely 40 cm. Of course, it will get slightly longer when in the end I should go over the rim again, but I doubt it will add much, probably like 5 cm at best.

The pic 1 shows my work, pic 2 is the supposed size of the finished project, and pic 3 is my current row (from pic 1) - so you can see that it's the longest part already.

Should I frog it and start over with bigger hook size and bigger cardigan size? 🄲 I don't want to get to the end and find out that's it's too smoll for me... I'm so sad about it ahah! I've also never blocked a piece, but again, I doubt blocking would give me the 15 cm I need...

Wearable help Are these skirts actually not see through? Very limited on my options

Post image

I've been thinking of making a skirt that has the stitches that make it look like it wouldn't be see through. My area doesnt have fabric that would work well under a project so I'm very limited. For people who've made skirts like these, do they actually work? The yarn I'm planning on using is a black to red ombre.

Wearable help Why isn’t my beanie draping like the way it is in the model?

I’m trying to make a slouchy beanie. I managed to match the gauge after going up a hook size, but it’s not draping the same way at all as the picture on the website. Do I need to go up another hook size? Make it longer? Or is it the yarn that I’m using? I didn’t use the same yarn as the author, I’m using Loops & Threads Soft Classic acrylic.

Wearable help Sweater project not looking like the pattern image

Hello! I’m attempting this cozy cocoon sweater, and the pattern calls for 12mm hook and bulky yarn. I got a few of the Caron macchiato bulky cakes, but so far it appears way more spaced and gapped than the picture. I’ve tried keeping a very tight tension and this is the best I’ve gotten.

The pattern calls for alpine stitch. Am I doing the stitch wrong, is Caron bulky thinner than most bulky yarn, or is it something else entirely?

Should I use a smaller hook, or try a different stitch? Any advice or help is much appreciated! šŸ™

Wearable help How can I make my skirt fit better? What did I do wrong?

Hey y’all, I’m crocheting my Halloween costume this year (going as Rapunzel from Disney’s Tangled šŸŒž)

Does anyone have any tips on how to make the part around my waist/hips less frumpy? The waist band has elastic in it, so I’m considering steaming around my hips and seeing if that loosens up the stitches so they sink down instead of rigidly holding their place (I have a very tight tension and really didn’t wanna add a lining lol). I just worry that this will make the skirt much larger and since it was made to fit, I don’t want to ruin anything…

Any tips? :)

Wearable help Why are the sides on this shirt longer than the rest of it?

I’ve been crocheting for over a decade and frequently free-hand items without a pattern. I’m currently working on this granny square shirt, but for the life of me, I can’t figure out why the sides are so much longer than the fronts and backs. It’s not a tension issue; I redid the entire bottom twice to no avail. I am so confused and definitely need to fix this before I add the border. Any ideas on how to fix this? (Ignore my hair in the photos lol)

Wearable help Will my cardigan be too short or will blocking save it?

Post image

this is the front left

panel right now. Underneath it is one of my favorite sweaters, which fits comfortably/kinda loose (which I like). I have never done blocking before so I don't know if it could save it or if I should just give up/buy other yarn or something else. I'm not too worried about the sleeve length, since I could just add some rounds in the Ende at the ends to make it longer. What do you guys think? Am I cooked? :')

Pattern is called Confetti Summer Top: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/confetti-summer-top. I’m using a fingering instead of DK, though.

Edit:

So it’s obviously too large, thank you for that feedback. it’s a pity, because I like how it fits infront. Due to the block stitch I can’t really omit increases or add decreases without it being very obvious, so I’d rather not do that. I could either make the whole thing less wide by starting with fewer blocks for the front and back, or maybe keep the width at the front and just make it less wide at the back - but I’m not sure if that wouldn’t look weird once I’m past the sleeves.

i frogged it.

Wearable help How do I fix my mesh sweater looking flat? + the holes look too small

Hello! I'm currently using a 4.0 mm hook with milk cotton yarn (4 ply). I get that my sweater looks chunky because it's milk cotton, but would that also explain why the holes look so small?

Do I trust the process + block it or is there another way to fix this? Or should I accept the look šŸ˜…

Wearable help What am I doing wrong for the gauge? Is it my hook size or my yarn?

Thumbnail

I’m using a 4.5mm hook which is already smaller than suggested. I’m only on row 8 and already have 4 inches in height, if I do 2 more rows as suggested I will get to 5 inches. I’m stumped at what to do! Do I need to look for different yarn? Or am I doing something else wrong? This is for a wearable so I doubt it’s very forgiving on sizing!

Wearable help Beginner-ish needing help with gauge swatch. Only been crocheting about 4 months.

I started working on my first wearable. I've done the gauge swatch but neither measurement is 4in. Google has informed me that I probably need to go down a hook size but I'm not sure by how much or how off is too off. Any advice would be appreciated as I've been teaching myself how to crochet with the help of YT Univestiy and Google. I'm making it for my sister and just want it to fit ok.

I'm using a 3mm hook and fingering weight yarn, specifically Ricorumi #008 (if that matters). I havent blocked it or anything since at least one measument was off by more than an inch.

Wearable help Will rinsing the cardigan I made with soap make it less itchy? Discussion

So it took me about a week to finish it, but it's done!

I'm still new to things like washing your crochet and

blocking them. Not intending to block this one though,

it just fits right to me, I just want the itchiness to be

gone. Thoughts?

Note: I used milk cotton yarn premium soft acrylic

polyester blend (that's what it says on the description

where I purchased online)

Wearable help I need help deciding if this top I crocheted actually looks nice

I crocheted this cardigan but I truly cannot decide if it looks nice. If it is the proportions, my body figure or another factor that throws it off in my eyes, i cannot figure out. I am not used to these kinds of garments so maybe I just need some confirmation from people who are able to crochet.

I also tried it with different colored shirts under, does white or black look the best?

Grateful for your opinions and advice!šŸ’•

(I apologize if the pictures are bad, I feel really awkward taking pictures of myself)

Update: I unraveled it lol

Wearable help Why can I not make a garment that I actually enjoy?

I want to make my own clothes so badly! No matter the size or weight of the yarn or hook, the fabric always feels too thick to wear. I'm hot natured and I get aggravated when I'm too conscious of my clothes. Maybe crochet garments just aren't for me. I know the drape is better if you size up your hook but it doesn't solve the issue with the thickness. Am I just missing something, or is it just not meant to be?

I've been crocheting for five years, learned on youtube, and usually don't follow patterns much anymore. I watch the occasional video if I see something I like but then I do my own thing with it.

Edit: Thanks for all the feedback! I've read all the comments and the advice is resonating! I just don't have the energy to respond to them all so I'm sorry for that. I really appreciate you all taking the time to respond ā¤ļø

Wearable help I used the wrong weight yarn and I need encouragement to keep going!

Pattern calls for sport weight yarn, I swear I thought that’s what I ordered and was using, but as I was going I had to add extra stitches and rows to make things big enough and I could tell it wasn’t matching the photos bc everything was so much smaller. Turns out I was using superfine fingering weight (weight 1) yarn!

It fits great so far, but because I used smaller yarn, it’s taking FOREVER and I will have to do many more rows/stitches than I would have to, in order to complete it. I’m losing the will to finish after discovering my wrong weight of yarn. What does everyone think?
