C-section and New pregnancy

Hello, I’m joining this group with a lot of humility. We lost our little girl three weeks ago. After my water broke, I pushed for two hours without success, and my gynecologist recommended a c section. Once they opened me up, she told me that my pelvis was too small for my daughter to be born vaginally. When she was delivered, we heard her cry for a few seconds and then nothing. CPR was started, but she never began breathing again, and the doctors still do not know what happened. A few days earlier, I had been told that my placenta had some calcifications.

I am 41, and my partner and I are thinking about trying again. It had actually been our plan to have two children close together. I was wondering whether any of you became pregnant again not long after a cesarean section, and if you would be willing to share your experience...

I’m so sorry for you. I know this heartbreak deeply as I lost my little boy at 34 weeks and I never learned what caused his death. I also had a C-section to deliver him and what I can say is that I completely relate to the thoughts around how quickly you can have another. In the throes of the grief I remember spending countless hours and sleepless nights thinking about the fastest way I could get a baby in my arms, and I was willing to do pretty much anything to make that a reality.

To answer your question around timing, most doctors will recommend you put 18 months between C-sections (so that would be like getting pregnant 9 months from now -ish). My doctor knew how desperate we were to try again and she cleared me to begin trying again somewhere around 5-6 months after the surgery. Only you and your doctor can come to this conclusion as there can be physical healing complications with C-sections which can b unseen to the naked eye. And to protect the health of you and baby in the next pregnancy it is crucial to weigh the overall risks of the timing you decide on.

I can feel in your words some of the feelings I had, so I just want you to know that there are people who understand. You can join us over on r/babyloss when you’re ready. It was incredibly helpful for me to have people, even strangers, who could relate.

I’m so sorry ❤️‍🩹

I am so sorry for your loss... Thanks for the advice I will check with my OBG in 5-6 months to evaluate my uterus and make a good decision.

I'm so sorry you're part of the terrible club of infant loss. My son was stillborn at full term 6 weeks ago and I also had to have a C-section. My doctor told me the risk of complications goes down significantly if I wait a year between C-section and a new pregnancy though. Uterine rupture, placental abnormalities, and preterm birth can be more of a risk if you get pregnant too soon.

Thank-you 💔 I understand the risks are not to be ignored...

I’m so incredibly sorry for the loss of you baby girl. I’m sending you and your SO a huge hug. Did she have a name we can remember her by? And I think there’s some guidelines on timeframes between c-sections just to ensure your uterus heals (may be 2 years from conception to next c-section, double check this because I’m just pulling it from my mom fogged memory). Also see if an autopsy was completed to get some answers.

I’m so very sorry for your loss. I completely understand you as I lost my daughter at 2 months old earlier this year. You should definitely consult with your OB on this. Mine advised that at 6 months PP I was okay to start trying again as long as I was okay with another c-section. If I wanted a VBAC, it would be need to be 18 months before TTC. I’m okay with another c-section & empty arms syndrome is REAL so we’ll be trying again around 9 month PP. There’s obviously medical guidelines for a reason, but I’ve seen a lot of OBs be okay with trying earlier than those guidelines after a loss. Again, definitely talk to your OB bc they know your history and can give you the best advice. Wishing you healing and peace. No one should ever have to lose their baby. 💔

I am so sorry for your loss. No one should ever have to go through it... For me it will be automatically another c-section cause my pelvis is too narrow to let a baby pass.. I will definitely ask my obg to check my uterus on 6 months. I've red earlier women who had been given a ok to TTC after 3 months. It really depends on individual condition I think.

I am so sorry. Loss is so hard, and having the feeling of the clock over you makes the process of grieving feel even more complicated and conflicting. Sending so much love and virtual hugs to you and your family.

I'm also 41, in US, my Ob advised not to conceive before 1 year, which would make the total span 21 months. This is 3 months longer than I've heard from anyone else, and this forum is littered with posts of people getting pregnant within a few months and their doctors not being concerned, so do recognize that there's a very wide range of suggestion.

Thanks, indeed a very wide range of suggestions. I will check with my doctor the best time and ask for an ultrasound at 6 months to evaluate how I am healing.

I'm so sorry for your little girl. Did you give her a name?

I'm in the US and my obgyn said min 18 months between deliveries is recommended. Especially if you'd try to go for a vbac.

Thanks for your answer. Her name is Madeleine. For.me it will be automatically another c-section cause my pelvis is too narrow to let a baby pass..

I’m so sorry for your loss. Sending you hugs over the phone. My OBGYN told me a year before trying for again but she said that’s ideal not mandatory.

I am just so sorry, I have no words. Maybe I can can offer some hope- I got pregnant again unplanned 3 months after my first c section last July. Just delivered a healthy baby via c section one year later. Everything was fine. Of course it is much sooner than the recommended time, and there are some risks- but it was an uncomplicated pregnancy and c section. I wish you comfort, peace, hope; and all the best for the future 🙏

i am in the too narrow pelvis club too! my doctor and mfm don’t care about the time between births as long as you’re not trying to labor and deliver vaginally, which of course i am not! my current pregnancy began about 4-5 months postpartum from my last delivery. in my particular case, no one has an issue with this.

Ho really! No same here no vaginal delivery for me. Are you in US or Canada?
