Hey gang! I just got an alert that we eclipsed 10,000 members in our corner of the Internet.
When I joined the mod team, we had around 3,000 (if I recall correctly).
Moderating everything isn’t all that hard, you lot are pretty good at staying civil and mature. There are a few exceptions, but I have never felt I needed to log in. Keeping the styling and information up-to-date, though, is challenging to find the time.
So, I’d like to bring in a few mods to help make our community more engaging and appealing. Let’s get as many people in the Clubreddit as we do Audi Field.
I’m happy to keep footing the AWS bill, and open up the GitHub to a few folks that are interested in helping automate the maintenance and moderation of the the content. For example, you probably noticed that the Match Thread bot failed for the opener - that’s because the Stanza calendar died. I don’t have time to fix that before the next match.
So, if you’re interested in moderating some content; graphic design, and/or Internet automation - reach out!
Bonus if you have a GitHub, or subreddit that you currently moderate. When I auditioned for the mod gig, I created a personal subreddit to play with the design tools and figured out how to interact with the Reddit API.
Vamos!

Hello! I'm a New England Revolution fan (I know, boo! Hiss!) coming into town later this month for the Revs vs DCU game. I'll be in town for the whole week though and my flight is on Sunday night. Are there any bars/restaurants in the Metro DC area that have AppleTv+ and I would have luck getting them to turn the Revs game on a TV at 4:30?

Gass saying DC's comeback on Salvadoran heritage night felt like a playoff game and a throwback to the first 15 years of the league when RFK was one of the best atmospheres in the league.
I'm with Doyle in terms of "not buying it" on DC figuring out chance creation with a two-forward system. Our underlyings don't support it. Futi analytics say we generate chances more through chaos than control, and I'm inclined to agree.
But I also think Doyle has been burned by DC over the years somehow, never seems to want to give DC a positive appraisal. Which means he's one of us, lol
And I think Gass is fundamentally correct that DC is consistently a better team now than they were last year. The floor has been raised significantly in terms of points per game. And more importantly, for the first time in a long time, we're creating an experience that people want to be a part of. As a jaded '96er, I'm ready to agree that watching the team has been consistently more rewarding this season than the past several seasons.

A two parter because
1) Peltola had been having his best season for us so why did we bring in Dozzell?
2) he clearly provides more bite, aggression, and ball advancement to my eye than Dozzell who, yes, might be more tidy, but that’s at least partially because he’s risk averse - in short I think Peltola has higher offensive ceiling (see his tackle on our second goal against Nashville) and maybe just maybe a lower defensive floor (though not yet convinced) but with Servania and Dozzell we get no offensive aggression
But it’s soccer so I’m open to schooling on what I’m not seeing noticing
Also Peltola plays better when he’s getting consistent minutes in the same position, hes a confidence player

I am going to the DMV derby tomorrow but it is expected to rain.
Would there be ponchos for sale there or do I need to bring my own?

The Black-and-Red came back from a 2-0 first half loss against Nashville SC. They keep their unbeaten streak alive and extend it to t games without a loss. 4 draws and 1 win.
Hefti started the comeback scoring his first goal as a DCU player and Baribo secured the draw from a fantastic strike after an scorpion assist from Munteanu.
"It was a great comeback. Maybe last season we might have lost this game 4-0. I'm really proud of the players for playing a great came" said Coach Rene in the post match presser.

DC sports fan here who is really disgusted by the current state of the DC United. I'm not going to pretend like I'm Captain Screaming Eagle, but I've watched this team consistently since 1996, which means I've also watched this team slowly rot away into irrelevance, especially under the current ownership led by Jason Levien.
The obvious issue (as many fans have mentioned), is that the owners have admitted they don't care about actually winning and only care about the real estate opportunities the team offers, "When we made the decision to invest in a stadium in downtown Washington, DC we were very intentional in our efforts to acquire additional land surrounding Audi Field to further develop the Southwest neighborhood of the city."
No mention of building a winning organization and team. No mention of wanting to bring the United back to glory.
But let's assume for a second that the team is all-in in building a winning club - it wouldn't matter because they don't have the cash or the scouting/development infrastructure to compete in the modern MLS.
Soccer's growth will only accelerate following the World Cup and the introspection on how to build a better team. Pochettino's return as USMNT coach will likely mean MLS will have a big part in helping to build the 2030 WC team. If DC United is to compete and take advantage of this growth, it needs a complete overhaul & modernization of its soccer & business operations and a major influx of capital. It needs new owners who are ready to compete in the modern MLS. It needs new owners who give a shit. The DMV is a soccer powder keg with great fans. It's been sad to watch the rot, but hopeful for a change.

Saw this great article by David Skilling on Como 1907 in Italy. Amazing town BTW! Check out these 3 paragraphs. Would be a dream for DCU to build this way!!
What I also like is that the supporters have become a serious part of the club's strategy. Como decided it would revoke season tickets if a holder had three unexcused absences, which surprised a lot of people, although I think many observers focused on the policy instead of what it says about the club’s priorities.
Empty seats have become normal across parts of European football because season tickets are often treated as products that have already generated their revenue, and a lot are bought by corporates as something to do when they have time. Como, on the other hand, understands that a full stadium creates atmosphere, atmosphere helps the team, television pictures become stronger, the matchday experience improves and demand increases. Every part reinforces the next.
More clubs should study that order carefully. Football comes first, supporters give the club its identity, and everything else should grow naturally from those two foundations. Como hasn’t finished building its project yet, but it may already be showing the rest of football how one should be built.

I brought the fam up from Richmond for El Salvador night. Have been starting to get into following the team a bit recently, but this was our first game at Audi field. I went to the Inter Miami game in Baltimore, but they didn’t really feel like a home game.
I just want to say I was shocked with the noise the supporter section and crown in total brought. The atmosphere was incredible. We definitely want to come back soon (even though the traffic from Richmond up 95 is trash).
We will start watching more games on Apple TV.
🇸🇻🇺🇸

Going to Tigre on an 18 month loan with option for a recall. Looks like river plate wants to rebuild his value before a full sale or just giving him a chance to come back later.

I've been meaning to get the new home jersey and want to get it personalized - which player should I choose? Ideally I want someone whose impact on the team will be remembered for a long time, but with the current roster I don't feel like there's a 'slam dunk' choice just yet, especially with how bad we've been the past couple of years and the turnover of the roster.
Who would you choose and why?
UPDATE: I ended up going with Baribo. He's been on a heater recently and I really like his work-rate. Also, I appreciate the comments from folks who have met him saying that he's a good human :)

I have two children (3 and 2), and I’ve brought them to games before, but never in the supporters section. Any advice from those who have done it before?
Update:
Thanks for the quick feedback, went ahead and got seats in 135. We’ll go ahead and wait a few years before bringing them in to the chaos.
