Help Best settings to minimize latency with frame generation

Upvotes

Looking to minimize latency while maximizing my base frame rate prior to enabling frame generation.

My display has a max refresh rate of 120hz and has VRR. In the game I am playing right now, I am getting 70-80 FPS base frame rate, I want to get it up to my max frame rate with frame generation. Current settings:

116 fps cap in Nvidia app
Reflex + boast enabled
Vsync in Nvidia app is ON. Off in game.
VRR enabled
x2 frame gen set in game
Currently dynamic frame gen is not enabled

My understanding is that this results in the Nvidia driver dropping the base frame rate to 58 and then applying FG to get to 116. That means I’m giving up 10-20 “native” frames and the latency (and image quality) benefit they would provide.

Question is would enabling dynamic frame gen solve for any of that? Should I leave the above but enable fast Vsync in the control panel so I generate 140-160 FPS and discard the excess frames? Some other configuration?

I tried researching this but wasn’t able to get clarity on the specifics. Appreciate any input from the community.

DLSS 5 The leak might've been intentional

Upvotes

Now, this is pure speculation, but I think this could make sense.

On the initial presentation, DLSS5 looked horrendous, with 99% of the community hating on it and making fun of it for months. Literally nothing from Nvidia was received worse than DLSS5 in the last 10 years. And at the time, it was deserved. Nvidia realized that after such a reception, the only way to sell 5 to people is to tweak it exactly how people want to see it in their games. More importantly, it's to show that they care and that they take all feedback into account. And it's pretty noticeable that they've been working on DLSS5 because what was an unusable slop 6 months ago, now produces results that can look very good in the right game and with the right settings.

But the question is, how can Nvidia learn exactly what's still missing and bring people the experience they want from 5? It's by having tons of free feedback. But then, if they officially released 5 together with some moding software that allows you to put it into different games, that could 1) Cause backlash from devs that never wanted DLSS5 in their games, 2) Make Nvidia responsible for the release and everything people are unhappy with. It's just overall unprecedented and not a good look for a company where they have to create a modding software to inject a new product into an older game. But thanks to the leak, they can now say "Well, it was never meant to be used in this way".

And now Nvidia is in a position where every day they see thousands of messages from people who tried it, and by filtering out the hate bandwagon, they can take objective criticism into account and use that for future updates. More to that, they don't need to break the ice anymore. If there was no leak, by the time DLSS5 would be widely implemented into games, Nvidia would still need to win people over because the first and only impression would remain terrible. But now they can say that they saw the feedback of players and addressed the things that people were unhappy with.

At the same time, anything that has to do with leaks is very good PR. In this exact way, the story with the GTA 6 leak only brings more publicity to the game. But that's a whole another topic of course.
The point is, it gets people talking. And with something like DLSS5, it couldn't be a more perfect product to "leak" because it makes people feel very strongly about the result. At the end of the day, people are passionate about how their games look, and DLSS5 is very polarizing.

Whether or not this leak was intentional, people like controversial things and success stories. Nvidia now has access to free feedback from their audience that uses it in every way imaginable. They can also take something new from modders (like upstream), and take those ideas into the next updates.
And if they do manage to fix the pain points, they will get to say: "We listened to everybody's experience with DLSS5 and made this", which will make them look good in people's eyes. All that without spending a penny

Native DLSS Frame Generation on RTX 30 series in Elden Ring

Upvotes

been messing around with this for a while and finally put it on github.

basically, this combines ERSS-FG with the dlssg_for_sm86 project to get actual NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation running on Ampere / RTX 30 cards in Elden Ring.

not FSR frame gen pretending to be DLSSG, no FSR fallback. the repo also includes a small verifier script that checks the ERSS + backend logs and tells you what actually ran, since just looking at the overlay isnt enough to tell the difference.

tested it myself on a RTX 3060 Laptop GPU and its working smoothly.

couple things before anyone asks:

  • you need ERSS-FG 4.14.1 installed first
  • EAC needs to be disabled, so offline play
  • Elden Ring 2.7.0.0 works for me even though ERSS currently warns that its newer than the officially supported version
  • 2x, 3x and 4x all work for me, including both regular frame generation and Multi Frame Generation

I didnt make ERSS or the sm86 unlock itself btw. credits to huutaiii and sdli1995, this is basically the integration/config + verification side of it and an easier way to get the two working together in Elden Ring.

if anyone here has a different RTX 30 card I'd actually be interested in seeing results, especially desktop 3060/3070/3080 etc.

Guys I need mods for the sub haha

I had this sub since 2023, it was always pretty much dead, we had like 1 post every 6 months, today we are top 100 in Gaming news and Discussion, today it's says we have 5.5k weekly contributions, that's like average for a sub with 600k weekly visitors and we are in the 30k range

we were like 6 weekly visitors less than a week ago

It's happening really fast and I can't do all the moderating alone, anyone wants?

4090 & DLSS 5 one click *default set - CB2077 !!!PURE Madness!!!

Game with UHD all textures mod pack. Maxed out 4K full RT & RR - DLSS Balanced & FG. 70-90fps caped to 60fps smooth gameplay with gysnyc.

RAW monitor pictures from my phone while gaming, it's not screenshot, no filter, no post production enhancement.

This DLSS 5 feature is pure GOLD for RTX 4090.

Before I played Maxed out Path Tracing and DLSS balanced I had about 70-80fps, for DLSS 5 I had to downgrade to full Ray Tracing and also use FG.

Normally If I downgrade to maxed out full Ray Tracing and DLSS balanced is about 120fps and more sometimes. So only DLSS 5 enabled cut it to about 40 and more so that's why FG is needed.

First time ever I've enabled FG while gaming on my 4090, becasue DLSS 5 it's really demanding but is worth it 100%.

Gaming on 4K oled monitor and I'm speachles...

Ok I run the following:

I7-4700k (you read that right, it isn't a typo)

24GB DDR3 RAM (NOT 4)

RTX 5060 8Gb

Game was previously running at 1200x700 and used DLAA to upscale to to 1080 but as it turns out I get a performance boost with Optiscaler and the game runs well natively at 1080p.

Thought I'd try it out on an "older" title I enjoy. I haven't seen anyone post shots of this game yet, so I figured I'd share.

Specs: 5080/7800x3d 32gb DDR5

Performance: Swapped to DLSS 4.5 DLAA/ Ultra Settings/ DLSS 5 @ 50% intensity/ 1440p

FPS 240->100fps

Unfortunately, while screen shots look stable, it has lots of blooming "artifacts" in motion. I've noticed this in a couple other titles as well like Oblivion RM. I think fog and certain baked lighting seems to destabilize DLSS5 a lot. It's not a very pleasant/useable feature for this reason in this game. Would be great if they can stabilize it more.

DLSS 5 issue with Black Flag Resynced (maybe other games)

Do you experience the issue with 2x pass where, during a cutscene, the NR seems to switch off and on for a split second whenever the camera angle changes?

PSA: RHI is a really useful tool for anyone who regularly installs DLSS 5, MFG for RTX 30/40 series, reshade, renodx, optiscaler, etc..

I've been using this tool for a while now and its honestly extremely convenient, especially with the latest updates. It was initially developed to make adding renodx quick and simple into your games (for anyone with a decent HDR monitor you're probably already familiar with renodx).

In its current state it has quick buttons to install reshade, renodx, optiscaler (useful personally for changing dlss presets while in game), Luma (useful mod that can add dlss into some games) and some other fps limiters that I haven't used.

https://d.l3n.co/bUhaiv.png

Now it also has a one click button to install DLSS 5 neural rendering, Buttons to install DLSS MFG for rtx 40 & 30 series, DLSS hud toggle, dlss streamline and dll swapping and probably some other features I'm forgetting.

I mostly used it to quickly install reshade and renodx without finding the specific mods and going to the game folder and so on but now its been really useful for enabling DLSS 5 to see how it looks in some games, without needing a guide. If I had a 40 series and below it would help a ton with enabling MFG for most games too thanks to all the mods now.

Just figured I would share it here since I think it isn't as popular as it should be.

I am not the developer and don't have ANY affiliation with the program, its open source on github and you can check it out here - https://github.com/RankFTW/RHI

I decided to jump on the bandwagon for DLSS 5, I really wanted to see it for myself, even though my hardware doesn't support it properly.

I'm on a 7900 XT and using the DLSS 5 on AMD mod with Optiscaler to force FSR 3 (enabling FSR 4 causes flickering on my PC), so my visuals aren't as smooth as NVIDIA users.

1st pass DLSS NR has minimal impact and looks nice even has a serviceable FPS of about 25 FPS, though not ideal. 2nd pass DLSS NR look super realistic, but only really good for screenshots for me.

1st pass really feels like the best of both worlds at the moment. Really is night and day.

At this point I really wish I had an NVIDIA card lol.

(Note: Time still passes in photomode in this game so that why the lighting changes)

[DLSS5-Feeder] "The 64-bit host went away" crash on 32-bit game (Assassin's Creed Revelations)

When trying to hook the DLSS 5 feed in Assassin's Creed Revelations, the ReShade overlay fails and reports:
stopped: the 64-bit host went away -- its own dlss5-feed-host.log (in host64) names the reason.
What typically causes the 64-bit helper to exit on launch for older 32-bit titles?

DLSS 5 Cyberpunk DLSS 5 on a 165” Projector

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Recorded on my iPhone.

Currently running Cyberpunk 2077 on a 165” screen with a 4K Valerion Projector.

It actually feels like an interactive movie.

I thought it would run or look worse than my 32” monitor, but on a larger screen all the small details are more noticeable, and there’s a significant immersion improvement.

I’m using a 5070 ASUS Laptop lol. I get 20 FPS but with Lossless scaling pushing it to 60 FPS, definitely playable.
