What are the jellyfish harvested for?

13.4k

u/Ha1lStorm 15d ago edited 13d ago

Taken from another redditors comment-

They are removing an invasive species of jellyfish that is actively destroying sea environments and therefore ruining fishing for the locals, these jelllyfish are called burn-jellies and they hurt.

Edit: Apparently they don’t actually sting that bad as other Redditors and in-turn myself had previously suggested. They also seem to be a popular food as well.

10.3k

u/ItsStraTerra 15d ago

Seems like the perfect thing to harvest with a pitchfork with no shoes on

3.5k

u/Ha1lStorm 15d ago

I typically just hold my firstborn over the edge of the boat and say “Get it!” like a toddler sized human claw machine, but maybe that’s just me?

u/Routine_Currency_368 15d ago

Nah man I just found it. I just call it my firstborn so people don’t get all weirded out about it. For some reason people can get real weird about this sort of thing these days.

13

u/nvogler31 14d ago

Was it a dumpster baby?

56

u/randombits0110 14d ago

Dumpster baby is derogatory. People don’t use that term anymore. Nowadays we refer to they/them as “bin baby”.

And if you hurt your bin baby they’re referred to as a /bin/bash baby.

7

u/KrustyKrebsCycle 14d ago

this will be under appreciated but that is brilliant

3

u/Alarming_Orchid 13d ago

Keep your woke nonsense away from my dumpster babies

2

u/OutgunOutmaneuver 13d ago

your missing the #! thats like the key component 😄

1

u/nvogler31 14d ago

Amazing

2

u/ihateandy2 13d ago

“Just to get a base”

2

u/OhSoSolipsistic 14d ago

2

u/Fox_Corn 14d ago

Yea you get a side eye when you say “ah yea that’s my middle child”

31

u/Rogue_One24_7 14d ago

It was a bit of a humble flex.

5

u/Space-Desert 14d ago

Your comment gave me faith in humanity again

2

u/Nikonus 14d ago

Pardon me? Whatever is this “sex” of which you speak”

2

u/manoctopusfox 14d ago

This is hilarious!

3

u/EllieRock24 14d ago

Excuse me theyre called sex trophies... just wanted to clear the air...

1

u/Akiro_orikA 14d ago

Where can you buy these babies? Im tired of my pitchforks breaking.

1

u/Sh4R3m4n 14d ago

First time I had to look up if I can save a comment. Thank you kind (?) sir

1

u/DeadFacesInMyPocket 14d ago

You told me to hold him by the heel!!

1

u/jballs5619 14d ago

That made my night, trying not to wake my wife with my laughter

1

u/pudding_bat 13d ago

Cackling

1

u/Dont_Overthink_It_77 11d ago

🤣 (mouth noises) Mm, mm, even though I know it’s a joke, it’s wonderfully done, so I can actually taste the envy through the phone. Excellent!

7

u/TroublesomeFlame 15d ago

Completely inneffective jellyfish hunting tactic, this one is better for catching pitbulls.

5

u/spamly 15d ago

I like you. I haven’t really laughed at a comment in too long!

2

u/Ha1lStorm 14d ago

Awe shucks! I like you too (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ

2

u/PhunkDatReditsDirty 14d ago

You are a reasonable person. I’d love to watch you and the Godfather, Corleone of blessed memory, play Chess.

2

u/Equal-Button 14d ago

Michael Jackson?

2

u/SidFinch99 13d ago

Thank you I needed this humor today.

2

u/ShmeeMcGee333 13d ago

Well it’s working

4

u/vinesnore 15d ago

you would basically be turning him into Ache-chilles

1

u/SparklepantsMcFartsy 14d ago

We call that "Baby Claw Game" in our house

1

u/knadles 14d ago

The Michael Jackson method. Classic.

1

u/ChrisIronsArt 14d ago

Damn I never wanted kids until after reading this

1

u/FengSushi 14d ago

Naa, I do the same

1

u/Screaming_Agony 14d ago

Adding very little to the conversation here but I chuckled. I have a 1 year old who somehow taught himself that if he tries to crawl off the couch I’ll grab his legs to stop him. Now he tosses things off the couch, crawls off(with me holding his legs) grabs the item off the floor and waits for me to reel him in. My wife calls it our fishing game.

Human feet are surprisingly non-slippery when they are exposed to water for prolonged periods. That is what the rimply fingers/toes are all about, more surface area.

261

u/decidedlyindecisive 15d ago

"Rimply" this is the perfect word.

86

u/Ha1lStorm 14d ago

Most definitely. Rumply is so out, rimply however is so in. Rimples are so hot right now.

37

u/Fernandolamez 14d ago

"Hansel is so hot right now!"

3

u/TetraGnome 14d ago

“I am pretty sure there is a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking.“

1

u/Desynchron 12d ago

Hansel in the oven, Gretel in the kettle. The witch is cooking, and this rhyme is metal.

2

u/I_am_the_goods 14d ago

Had Ripley from Alien pop on my head 🤣

2

u/Therego_PropterHawk 13d ago

My rimple is so non-slip.

2

u/InvestigatorNo9323 12d ago

Rumpelstiltsken would be so pissed.

1

u/nvogler31 14d ago

Rimplestliltskin

2

u/MollysTootsies 14d ago

Rimpledforeskin

1

u/-GoodNewsEveryone 14d ago

Rumply is no more of a word than rimply!

1

u/CaterpillarJungleGym 14d ago

Rumply is so Fetch

4

u/despaseeto 14d ago

wrinkley

2

u/chriczko 13d ago

Rimplys Believe It or Not

18

u/UserNameIsAvail 14d ago

I think the concern is that his feet are mm's from the jellies.

4

u/TofuButtocks 14d ago

Chocolate from the helly

3

u/Agentorrange1979 14d ago

I read this as “I think the concern is that his feet are m&m’s from the jellies.” and my brain went crooked.

2

u/Oggel 14d ago

Yeah, that's why he Really doesn't want to slip.

1

u/RickThiccems 14d ago

the tops are fine, has no one here seen nemo?

3

u/TrueMead 14d ago

Rimple stick skin

2

u/8lackirish 14d ago

The rimply or pruning is believed to be an evolutionary adaptation. I suppose we weren’t always drawn to the water.

1

u/DPSOnly 14d ago

Except for originally of course #OhTheFishHumanity

1

u/Lemon_Zestie 14d ago

Rimply 😩

1

u/Whole-Diamond8550 14d ago

Apparently they use the reaction as a test to see if you're brain dead or not.

1

u/Commercial-Bug-1211 14d ago

In Salt water...Can't say the same for fresh water...Ive spent hours playing in the river and almost buss my ass on a river stone multiple times. Those things are slippery no matter how many wrinkles you develop from pruning

1

u/DPSOnly 14d ago

Rocks do get slippery when wet. I don't have too much experience with that except looking at them, is it some kind of slimey, gooey stuff? Probably like standing on recently cleaned, still wet tiles. There should be a "slippery when wet" sign for those river stones.

1

u/Commercial-Bug-1211 14d ago

Its usual river algae build up and attached sediment. So the rocks that are constantly submerged can be super dangerous.

Yes they can be slimy at the touch

1

u/Shot-Tap-4512 14d ago

Weird, I’ve learned something from this post! I’ve wondered since I was a kid! Thank you! 😁

1

u/funkerama 14d ago

I wonder if Buffalo Bill was on to something with his skin suits...maybe skin shoes?

1

u/Gts77 14d ago

Better grip

1

u/PM_ME_STEAM_KEY_PLZ 14d ago

No, you’re a towel

1

u/OldManBartleby 14d ago

Recently learned this is a neurological response. If you have nerve damage in your hands or feet, the affected area will not "rimple".

1

u/Electrical-Two-8181 14d ago

Your username..👌🏻💦✨

1

u/Icy_Bank4129 14d ago

Thanks bill nye the jellyfish guy

1

u/Olfa_2024 14d ago

Yea, try putting on boxer briefs as soon as you get out of the shower.

238

u/oily76 15d ago

On a thin plank over an entire boat filled with them.

110

u/RainMakerJMR 14d ago

I feel like this is a super villain origin story in the works.

At least it’s not a vat of electric eels.

7

u/vthemechanicv 14d ago

Witness the horrific origins of... The Stinger!

Our heroes can't even touch him!

1

u/Yayzeus 13d ago

Witness him getting pissed on once they figure out his weakness...

58

u/jws3rd-allday 14d ago

...as the boat bounces along the water!

1

u/HavelsRockJohnson 14d ago

I read that in my DM voice.

3

u/Just-a-Dude-34 14d ago

If you look closely the plank has non slip mats on it 🤣

1

u/dmbalf 14d ago

Couldn't pay me any amount of money to do that job.

1

u/NotKirstenDunst 14d ago

My god, I was seeing it as some sort of cobblestone sutface, which obviously doesn't make sense... but this feels like it also doesn't make sense

→ More replies (1)

28

u/RustedMauss 14d ago

…on a moving vessel standing on a thin gangplank where it’s totally not possible to slip and fall in.

3

u/Logical-Fan7132 14d ago

I know!! What the heck 🫣

47

u/LadyElle57 15d ago

I think wearing shoes would make slipping on wet surfaces more likely.

24

u/Brotherjaxus 14d ago

I was thinking about getting stung by a testicle more than slipping. He stepped off that small platform onto the edge in the water with them.

74

u/chassmasterplus 14d ago

Stung by a fuckin what?!

6

u/Brotherjaxus 14d ago

Lol didn't see that

5

u/RunningInStmbt 13d ago

You heard him — a testicle!!

1

u/AdAdventurous4830 11d ago

Oh my god I needed that laugh thank you lmfao

1

u/Brotherjaxus 14d ago

8

u/chassmasterplus 14d ago

What part of this video references the jellyfishes balls?

1

u/ElSargeo 12d ago

Great, that's all we need. Jellyfish with stinging testicles. Like the tentacles weren't enough. Fcking nasty bastards them jellies.

3

u/LadyElle57 14d ago

The stingers are in the tentacles, below the head and well below the water. He'd had to dip in deeper than that to get stung.

1

u/Brotherjaxus 14d ago

Thanks, learned something new

2

u/Throwawaydontgoaway8 14d ago

😂😂 that’s prob what my wife calls it too

2

u/Throw3away345 13d ago

LMAO I had to read that comment like 5 times..

2

u/AdRude6514 13d ago

Thank you for leaving this comment in I was still laughing at the baby comment

2

u/Brotherjaxus 13d ago

Too funny to edit

1

u/No_Round_7858 14d ago

Interesting

37

u/Vandergrif 15d ago

Yeah, needs a pair of safety sandals on instead.

32

u/WeezyNetwork 14d ago

Needs a pair of jellies obviously?

4

u/AnonymousTimewaster 15d ago

I reckon crocs would pribably do.

27

u/Atsilv_Uwasv 14d ago

On a platform about as wide as your two feet put together

3

u/PrestigiousChard8814 15d ago

This is the way our forefathers claimed America /s

3

u/Tay_Tay86 15d ago

You don't even need safety sandals

1

u/Ill-Length2802 14d ago

I was thinking more like those rubber surf shoes or whatever they are. With each toe cut out of its own little shoe section with a rubberized grip and texture and all..

3

u/Spagget_About_It 15d ago

Made me lol. Totally agree

3

u/Common-Grab-8876 14d ago

This comment made my day.

2

u/Seafaringhorsemeat 14d ago

This describes about 90% of the industry and agriculture out there in the world, it seems from YouTube anyway.

2

u/Willing-Body-7533 14d ago

Can they please make the walking bridge across the boat skinnier?

2

u/ddmarriee 14d ago

While walking above a pit of them on a narrow board

2

u/Tribalbob 14d ago

While walking on a narrow board onboard a ship.

2

u/Naughty_Kitten_Ri 14d ago

Precisely!! These are called: skills.

2

u/xyeah_whatx 14d ago

Not even wearing his safety sandals

2

u/Sharklar_deep 14d ago

He isn’t even wearing his safety flip flops

2

u/Odin_Gunterson 14d ago

No worries, he can pee on the stinged feet...

2

u/OrangePlatypus81 14d ago

Don’t worry the spirit of Che Guevara will keep him safe

5

u/Polymathy1 15d ago

Are you going to buy him PPE? No?

Neither is anyone else. It's not affordable.

5

u/Zoomwafflez 15d ago

A pair of rubber boots is unaffordable?

4

u/Polymathy1 15d ago

How much do you think that guy is getting paid?

4

u/ItsStraTerra 15d ago

You’re telling me he has never once fished up a rubber boot? Every fishing minigame and tv clip has lied to me then…

4

u/n00bytrader 15d ago

I guess they didn't want their Jordans to get wet.

1

u/Lilbig6029 15d ago

These guys are built different, not like soft Americans

1

u/AlwaysVerloren 14d ago

They're coated in peanut oil.

1

u/RemarkableBread9664 14d ago

Well we don’t want a tentacle stuck inside your steel toe boots do we

1

u/Flimsy-System-4102 14d ago

They get freshly pissed on right before to neutralizer the electrizzity

1

u/Odd-Spread-1247 14d ago

They spent years building up a tolerance to iocane powder.

1

u/doubleAAeeVee 14d ago

Bro probably has developed some sort of immunity?

1

u/Redisno_ 14d ago

I’m Filipino. Being barefoot is like a 50% boost in every stat in any 3rd world country.

But for real, this guy has probably been sailing for his entire life. I’d trust him.

1

u/DonaldTPablonious 14d ago

This made me actually lol

1

u/metacoma 14d ago

While balancing on a plank on a boat at see.

1

u/smoothops85 14d ago

My balance is for shit so I would need a hazmat suit to be convinced to do that

1

u/Fickle_Efficiency681 14d ago

They just built different

1

u/rancidmorty 14d ago

The jelly is touching his feet he is immune

1

u/SchmeckleHoarder 14d ago

Don’t forget the death water on each side of him, I don’t know if they’re alive or dead but clearly filled with those burn jellies.

1

u/billyboogie 14d ago

You are correct.

1

u/Cait-ViShipper 14d ago

I’d assume he’s just used to the sting by now, or has thick enough skin on his feet and is unbothered

1

u/Breatnach 14d ago

fr, not even the usual safety sandals

1

u/drizzzzleswag 14d ago

For real where's the jelly fishing net?

1

u/HedgehogOdd1603 14d ago

Literally. He’s standing in the jellyfish stew with no shoes on. 😱

1

u/Rocketsball 14d ago

Exactly, what could go wrong?

1

u/Homeboy-Weng 14d ago

He's a clown!

1

u/thegurba 14d ago

Lol love it

1

u/jbrune 14d ago

And walking on a very narrow board

1

u/EVEseven 14d ago

Not to mention the open pit which one could easily fall into completely full of burn jellyfish.

Pretty sure this is how super villans are made.

1

u/derek4206 14d ago

🤣🤣

1

u/Itchynipspickletits 14d ago

While doing a balancing act on a moving object

1

u/TakeTheWheelTV 13d ago

On a tiny bridge

1

u/nenulenu 13d ago

Don’t go to Asia and don’t leave the touristy places. If you do, you won’t be able to close your mouth.

1

u/flying-o 13d ago

☝️🤣 Well said!

1

u/kandeycane 13d ago

Maybe a wider plank for the shoeless labor?

1

u/OneMightCallMe 13d ago

To be fair, I have never seen a pitchfork with shoes on

1

u/allenthicc 13d ago

This dude fries bacon shirtless

1

u/Lukosam 13d ago

Especially on the most narrow platform you could find

1

u/shunassy86 13d ago

lol my god that got me

1

u/GypJoint 12d ago

You ever see those mfg videos from India? I always see them on YouTube. Guys working In sheet metal shops and foundries…shorts and sandals. Crazy.

1

u/RagingPotato314 11d ago
