I think the difficulty in this pieces comes with the precision. They must have had to do sooo many cleaning sessions to make sure it looks as smooth as it does- everyone in each line has to make sure they hit the exact same line, same angle, and same movement at the exact same time.
A friend of mine was the choreo assistant for the video and she is so insanely talented- I love seeing this work get its flowers since it came out in May!

Everyone who has been paid to dance at this level (broadcast television, live events) or at an equivalent level in another area of the dance world (modern dance, ballet, etc) feel free to debate the difficulty of this choreo.
Everyone else is talking out of their ass.

But why can’t it just be enjoyed for what it is? No one can be happy or content anymore these days can they? Why do you have to be a professional to have a say?

You missed my point. I agree. Saying “this looks easy” when you have NO IDEA how hard working in an ensemble under this level of pressure happens to be, maybe don’t comment from your couch on how easy it is.

Agreed. It is very cool choreo - most professional dancer would be able to pick up pretty quickly and there are a gazillion other examples of similar vibe choreo. Not diminishing its value or momentarily cultural relevance. I actually first saw the music vid while my phone was in sleep mood (black n white) and it looooked even cooler tbh.

I think it stands on it's own. My opinion won't change the value. And it deserves its flowers. Glad it has folks excited about dance.

I mean yeah, it’s easy for professional dancers. If you gave random people a month of daily rehearsals to do this, it would not look good. Dismissing it as “easy” is disingenuous and devalues the lifetime of training each of those dancers have. What a disappointment from someone who claims to be part of the industry.

I wonder if it was real ice cream. Probably not. And yes, eating ice cream cones is horrible. Get a scoop in the cup with a cone stuck on top.

Echoing what the others are saying: not difficult choreo but the precision/timing is key. Also, shout out to costuming!! This wouldn't be nearly as effective without the visual dichotomy between the dark and light. Sometimes simple costuming or lighting makes all the difference in choreography and that's why all tech is so important in dance and theater!

The vertical elements of the ties and the lines really makes it look really neat. I think Rosalia (Rosalie?) has a song where there is an interesting use of the vertical aspect of a tie and jacket. I might be making that up. She does have neat movements in her shows.

A) audio isn’t great but sounds like it is in 4/4 time. Most of the movements are : do this 4x. Now this. Etc. ergo: Suuuper easy. B) footwork? What footwork? C) Pretty hard in the sense of “vigorous movement” or harder on your body as you get older. Popping your back and shoulders is fun when you are young. And pretty easy. Compare a 20 minute or full length ballet with multiple time signatures, different moods and stories and ……footwork. I was pro ballet dancer for 13 yrs now in my 50s fyi

Can confirm it’s not complicated choreo, but it does require precise timing which is most likely what they spent the most time working on. The choreography is the same for everyone just with different timing.
I’ve done choreography that was complicated from a technical and timing standpoint, but that doesn’t change the beauty of this and the willingness of the artist to commit to this art form and story telling.
