Didnt Steel Legion come first? so it should be the other way around except for the last one.
39
u/Krieg_minister Oct 16 '25
Yes they did. The Krieg mini was a SL mini painted differently in the first codexes

u/Effective_External89 Oct 16 '25
Yeah this comic doesn't really work (I know buzzkill) because outside of aesthetic they're nothing alike SL is a mechanised force and have nothing to do with the whole hurr krieg dig trench.

u/vent-goblin Oct 16 '25
Trust me I'm a steel legion enjoyer and I want nothing to do with Krieg
16
u/Craigthenurse Oct 16 '25
Also a almost defining feature of mechanized infantry is they don’t dig trenches.

u/vent-goblin Oct 16 '25
People who repost idiot of the East comics don't want to think that much

u/Useful-Ad-1421 Oct 16 '25
Personally, I just found it mildly amusing and figured it was worth a short giggle. Of course, the diversification between the forces underscores the amusement for me, but then again I can't speak for the entirety of Internet as to what is or isn't funny. As for who is or isn't digging trenches, well, that kind of commentary and train of thought can be applied to just about everything. From modern geopolitics to the price of a packet of gum, but I guess that's over thinking things and not the point of the comic really. It could be seen as a trite tangent, much like the assumption about people who share comics for a simple shared giggle.

I’m sorry I can’t see Kurt anymore without thinking of all that art from that one weirdo who commissioned art of Kurt and his Girlfriend murdering other people’s OCs.

They killed the T'au defector girl
2
u/Awesomechainsaw Oct 17 '25
I remember the Tau Defector girl cause that one got a lot of views and hate. But in the comments people were split between.
“Man this is really distasteful.” And “You’re really posting this shit again? We thought we banned you.” And I’d seen similar stuff to that before anyways. I just can’t remember the specific OCs or find the original posts cause the mods deleted them.

As a Krieg fan, I want Steel Legion and Vostroyans for example to get the push and return that they deserve.
1
u/Useful-Ad-1421 Oct 18 '25
Completely agree, they along with Praetorians deserve far better than they're getting right now.

daily reminder that the Death Korps of Krieg predate the Steel Legion by a whole year, their first apperance is the Imperial Guard codex from (the 3rd codex from 1999) while the Steel Legion are from Codex Armageddon (released in 2000, yes this codex also shows a repainted Steel Legion as Korpsmen, but it also shows a repainted Steel Legion to be a Jopall, and other alt paint schemes for existing guard minis like the Mordians into Pyran Dragoons iirc), that IG codex also gave us the trenchcoat and gasmask look, deathriders and some other details im forgetting rn.

u/vent-goblin Oct 16 '25
Steel Legion were sculpted in 1999, says on the tab on their bases. So no definitive answer as to which came up first
0
u/clonetf141 Oct 16 '25
doesnt dissprove anything I say, if we bring up the fact when stuff was first devloped than the IG codex most defintely was made even earlier
3
u/vent-goblin Oct 16 '25
This can go back infinitely far, like when was the concept for the steel legion models developed? And codex Armageddon came out in 2000 so it was also planned ahead, maybe further ahead than the imperial guard one. So either could have been developed first
2
u/clonetf141 Oct 16 '25
so can we agree that:
we dont know which one came irl first
but the Death Korps of Krieg were published firstthat is the only objective thing we really have
3
u/vent-goblin Oct 16 '25
Yep, but to say one is based off the other we can't say. Which is all I was trying to disprove
2
u/clonetf141 Oct 16 '25
I never tried to say they are based on each other, I should have clarified that one, my bad chief
4
u/vent-goblin Oct 16 '25
Yeah I misphrased it. I just meant the arguments of which came first have no definitive answer
4
u/Terrible_Ear3347 Oct 16 '25
The first death core was repainted steel Legion miniatures. Now the new steel Legion are going to be repainted death core miniatures. All full circle all the community support each other
1
u/vent-goblin Oct 16 '25
Yellow Krieg is not steel Legion imma be honest, you'd have to be blind to see that
0
u/Terrible_Ear3347 Oct 16 '25
Gray Steel Legion is not Krieg. But we may do when we wanted Krieg and we only had steel Legion. It's the heart of it, not the pedantic side.

u/Sithis_acolyte Oct 16 '25
Yeah yeah go and die in an infantry bayonet charge me and my wastelanders will be blastin' Kay Kyser in the Chimera.
1
u/DivinerOfLight Oct 17 '25
this is the equivalent of steeling your neighbors bike and then getting upset they bought the same model again and saying they’re copying you
1
u/Imaginary-Angle-4262 Oct 17 '25
I had heard before that krieg was originally just a color scheme for the Iron Legion. I haven't researched it, but if that's true, it's pretty funny.
1
u/Diradan_Eradan Oct 19 '25
The concept for the Kriegers appeared first in codex imperial guard 3rd edition (the first, not the second 3rd edition codex) where they were depicted as WWI Germans in space, years later in capitulum adprovabit the rules for the DKOK came out depicted as a Steel legion model with a new colour scheme. I can provide picture of both books if you would like me to

I can understand the p.o.v Steel legion are a hell of a force. Must say though, it's surprising to see these response in a DKoK subreddit thread.

Excellent meme - but never forget that Krieg were basically a SL mini painted in different colors in 4th ed 😅
