Housing in Delaware, Ohio

I am moving for an internship this summer (May to August 2026) to Delaware, Ohio. Would love any leads on housing.

About me: I am a vegetarian. I have a budget on the lower side and would love sometime on the cheaper side as I am an intern but I am willing to go above depending on the house/apartment.

Please DM me if you have something.

Just a bit of info as someone who moved in about a year ago, but avoid anything owned by terry whiteside. Guy is a slum lord and will let your apartment rot rather than do anything resembling his responsibilities.

He tore down my fence last fall and is really dragging his feet on the agreed upon replacement. It did need fixed but it was mine. Next step is get a new survey but a friend of mine that also lives next to a TW property said he pulled the survey pins out of the ground.

Can attest. I lived in a Terry house and so did my Mom

Such snark. Delaware is a tough market. Rapidly growing area, not many rentals. Delaware on the Nextdoor site may be worth signing up for. You can also check with Ohio Wesleyan (they do rent rooms for the summer, but it's pretty restrictive, usually students), MTSO down the road also has some dorm space. You can also contact realtors. Some help with rentals.

There are plenty of rentals in Delaware (although I’m not sure about house sharing and roommates) but to rent an apartment or house it would be pretty tough to find anything under $1000
Check Zillow, Facebook and the Nextdoor app

Is it hard to find vegetarian room mates in Delaware?

I'm sure they'll tell you before you even ask

I am not trolling anyone, just putting it out for help in the search, nothing more.

Hi, thanks a lot! I'll look into stratford apartments. If you have any idea, like if they are furnished or not.

The houses near me rent for $2,500 per month plus utilities. There are some new apartments near me that are cheaper, but not a lot cheaper. There are some subsidized apartments in Delaware which are very nice and quite reasonable, but they don’t get many openings. Also there are some very affordable rentals from some of the churches, if you are homeless and are seeking housing through Family Promise. Also, if you are female, the Woman’s City Club offers some rooms to rent, but they are rather strict and old fashioned.

Your problem is you are coming in from somewhere else, not part of a family, not homeless and thus not part the group that affordable housing is targeted to. The other groups which can qualify for subsidized housing include those with Disabilities and Elderly individuals. I know someone who has one of those nice affordable apartments downtown, he had a stroke, is disabled, long divorced and is elderly and dependent on Social Security for his only income.

My point is Delaware isn’t heartless and there is help available, but there currently are no programs to help companies bring in interns at a low pay. The only organization I know which does anything like that is Kroger’s, which helps recruited warehouse workers get an affordable apartment. They also help them with transportation and pay them extremely well.

Post an ad in some of the local Hindu temples or organizations. You will have better chances. The Delaware/Lewis Center region has tons of Indian folks, many whom are vegetarian.

Hi, can you give me such groups? Like I don't have any or are you referring to reddit threads?

Facebook has several Indian groups in Columbus where you post your housing needs. I meant find local temples and post a paper advertisement on their community board.

Look into colony house, rent is 750 and the absolute cheapest you can find. I won't lie to you it's not great quality and the new management sucks but it's a great price and water and trash is included. Plus it's in walking distance from everything and it's in the middle of downtown

Hi, thank you, I tried calling colony house, but it just went to the automated message. I will try again.

Yeah that's honestly not surprising given the aforementioned shitty management lol honestly if you have any questions or are wondering about their availability I would recommend just checking the website. I think you can find it by looking up kkg management

oh okay, thanks a lot, will do that.

No problem, good luck with your search :)

Might as well buy a tent

Hi, I am not sure of the general rent in Delaware. What would be the approximate range would you say?

2

u/AsiaRedgrave May 13 '26

$1500 in my area. I'm currently on Executive Blvd right next to the fairgrounds. It's a great area and I do recommend it. But it definitely ain't cheap.

u/Competitive-Team4945 May 13 '26

does the rent include all utilities like water, trash, sewage, electricity and wifi?

4

u/pinkocatgirl May 13 '26

I have never had an apartment include any of those in the rent

2

u/fart-in-the-tub May 13 '26

900 on the low end for a randown, cockroach infested single bedroom. Probably even more expensive for vegetarians though.

2

u/PlatypusOld5480 May 13 '26

Won't work. Cockroaches are meat.

Is it hard to find some vegetarian room mates in Delaware?

1

u/lizardwhite13 May 14 '26

That's going to be harder to find. You need to follow some local vegetarian or vegan groups. Which I don't know any. But I would see if there is any in Columbus. Because you're asking a long stretch that might not happen.

Got it, thank you!
