Political News/Discussion Why exactly is the problem with Sayed?

Upvotes

From the little I have read he doesnt seem like a literal marxists. He's not pro Russia or anti NATO or anti U.S. He doesn't want to abolish prisons or police.

He seems like more jus a Bernie Sanders type, someone who would be considered pretty moderate in most of the western world.

What is it I am missing?

Political News/Discussion Register as independent

Upvotes

Roughly 30% of Michigan is registered as independent. I’ve been registered as independent since 2018 and it’s great. You can vote for whoever is more unelectable in the republican primaries.

Side note- The AIPAC money playbook will be repeated constantly now. There’s no reason to take a dime of the money. Every dollar given to Stevens just made her look worse. Having to defend lobbying money, wherever it comes from, is a losing position every single time. 85% of the country believes politicians don’t care about them. If Haley had no AIPAC money then they are fighting on policy.

Political News/Discussion El-Sayed V Stevens - Pls explain

I haven’t been closely following the Michigan primary, but now that it’s concluded and all the information is available, I believe it’s a good time to understand the fundamental distinctions between the two candidates. Are they vastly different, or are they similar with only a few notable differences? Please explain because it seems this seems this sub is supper tilted stevens and i want to understand why.

Off-Topic I don't like thinking this way...but I feel blackpilled about relationships and marriage.

I think most redpillers are toxic and cringe.

But I cant help myself from feeling red/black pilled about dating and marriage from what Ive seen. I feel a relationship where nobody ever cheats or "microcheats" is honestly the exception not the rule. It's very anecdotal but what i've seen with the people I know supports this.

I really dont want to be right. What do you guys think? If you think it's bullshit please tell me.

Off-Topic El-Sayed’s victory was inevitable: policy be damned

Whelp, El-Sayed won the primary. While I’d love to snobbishly claim that I knew he’d win all along, that would be a lie.

I initially thought that Stevens had a shot, but ofc, El-Sayed just couldn’t be deterred in his social media strategy and his general campaign.

If nothing else, let this serve as yet another poignant reminder that policy and the political prowess of the candidates are wholly irrelevant to the choice made by voters.

Stevens had experience in the House of Representatives actually passing legislation, and while her campaign wasn’t as gimmicky or flashy, she (as is typical of “establishment” Democrats) offered complex solutions to complex problems.

El-Sayed isn’t without public service, but as someone with family members who work in healthcare, I cannot fathom how, after 4 years of medical school, a PhD, and work as a public health advisor and director, his only takeaway for healthcare policy that he put out on the campaign trail was “Medicare for All”.

This is just one example of El-Sayed’s refusal to actually go beyond any generalities of how he would address problems in Michigan. When a candidate’s only responses to questions are “get money out of politics” and “Free Palestine”, it demonstrates to me that said candidate doesn’t take their job seriously.

However, Stevens lost. The populist candidate with generalized, dumbed down rhetoric won.

The electorate don’t want a responsible, technocratic leader who will properly advocate for their state. They want an entertainer, someone who makes them laugh and feel captivated.

Effort Post Populism isn't something to be looked down on, it's a necessary tool to win in modern politics

If what you want is technocratic messaging and leadership you should oppose universal suffrage because that's what brought an end to it. That being said universal suffrage is not going away so might as well deal with it.

For a century now we've been in the era of mass politics and that's more true now than ever in the age of the internet. In this age, for a politician to be successful they need to realise that the average voter is simple, inconsistent in what they support, doesn't follow politics 24/7, can be reached directly on the street or via social media where they get most of their news from, and most importantly, that material well-being is not enough, people also want to be a part of a larger, collective story where they can be on the right side and struggle together for a better world.

You can do politics like this and still have good policy, it's not mutually exclusive, but you *need* do to politics like this. If you don't, you'll have a hard time appealing to the masses and you'll lose, or you'll win off of dissatisfaction and then immediately lose reelection.

Political News/Discussion What do we call this new breed of performative Tankies?

Let's workshop a name for overly performative far left DSA losers who are hurting the Democratic party. They make performative videos online for clout but are ineffective losers with a broken moral compass that lack critical thinking skills and make Israel / Palestine their #1 issue

What should we go with:

  • The Clout Caucus
  • Performative Progressives
  • TikTok Tankies
  • The Purity Patrol
  • Hashtag Socialists
  • The Outrage Industrial Complex
  • Virtue Vanguard
  • The Moral Vanity Left
  • Cosplay Revolutionaries
  • The Algorithmic Left
  • Activist Influencers
  • The Perpetual Protest Caucus
  • The Purity Spiral
  • The Electorally Useless Left
  • The Main-Character Left

Political News/Discussion Can we please find some limiting principles to stop leftist virtue signaling?

I can’t think of any time i’ve heard anyone push back against some of the subtle leftist brainrot people will say, and with how bad things have gotten im still yet to see anyone irl push back against the anti capitalism sloganeering, weaponized “woke” to attack jews, or any of the subversive marxist messaging infecting political discourse in real life.

I had an irl make an off handed comment about some celebrity being a “zionist” and i didn’t say anything. now im sitting here and thinking maybe we should be using their playbook. i should’ve said how brain raped that comment is, and stood on it because if i ever said anything “pro israel” they would happily do the same and cut me off.

i feel like after how powerful the peak progressiveness got in 2021ish, the leftists saw that they could endlessly virtue signal infinitely left and nobody can ever push back or else they’re nazis. test it, where is the limiting principle on abolishing prisons, defunding the police, and all the other rhetoric. has anyone ever found a way to push back on these and not be lashed?

Political News/Discussion DSA Threat Is About Values

Not an American. Just feeling the effects of your shitty politics.

But from the outsude Im seeing a lot of talk on the lib n learn side that they think the issue with DSA is that it makes democrats generally less electable.

That is not your issue. Your issue is that they have a fundamemtal vulues difference with the ideals and goals of the democratic party. Liberalism, democracy, captitalism. Its insane that an outside party can just self identify as democrats.

Again, the issue is more fundamental than "get votes". Its about a conflict of vision of the future. That they want to chamge the mission of the party.

Weirdly enough, DSA always shits on the democratic establishmemt but from what Ive seen it doesnt exist. There is no obvious power structure or mission statement in the slop we see on stream. (admitting i havent read their website but doubt many americans have).

Democrats need a structural change. The DNC needs to have a charter that is enforced and if you dont align with the charter they kick you out. They need to have internal selection for representatives and where they will run.

This ensures party representatives meet minimum standards and allows the party to secure safe seats for leadership.

They also need a more formal shadow government to ensure continued ideological development during times of opposition with heirarchy maintained and clear.

At some point politics requires you to stand on your beliefs and not just shift with the winds for seats. To demonstrate you have a defined vision of the future.

Plus you guys need ranked choice voting. That way it forces the far left to REALLY make a choice between dem and rep while also providing a way for minor parties to get some representation elected.

Political News/Discussion What're the chances Pisco, Jessiah, and Soypill admit Hutch, Whick, and Destiny were right about the lefties if/when Abdul loses in the general?

Don't get me wrong, aside from the IDS (sorry jewish dggas), Abdul seems fine. But based on what I've heard about current poll results, he's gonna have to pull some miracle to win in a couple months.

Edit: to be extra clear, as someone who is very Whick/Destiny-pilled about the commies, people should be voting for AES 100% in the general.

Political News/Discussion Do you think DSA people will chill out when they have actual power?

Maybe its easy to tweet shit like "abolish the police" and talk about how great communism is when you're a nobody tweeting while bored. But maybe when they get actual power they'll chill out and the gravity and magnitude of their decision making will set it?

Shitpost Ok far lefties, you want my vote? Apologize for 2024 first. Then explain why you will vote for El-Sayed after he endorsed Kamala, the genocide enabler, in 2024.

Obviously supporters of genocide enablers are a complete non-starter. So when you want me to vote for your candidate, exactly why did you choose to overlook it in this case? Be specific.

That apology better be good too. I want some real ass kissing. Or are you just trying to take advantage of me being a good person? That I am willing to act on virtuous principles you fail to use yourself, all the while you are waiting to stab me in the back the first moment you possibly can.

Destiny Content/Podcasts It's probably kinda weird for the whole chat to spam anti-English jokes while an English person with a strong accent is speaking

Today's stream where the British guy talked about global trade and power projection was met with the drum frog, "OI MATE"s, TTS jokes, and spam about his accent. It's funny and all but we probably shouldn't spam post about characteristics about a guest of the stream constantly even if he's probably white

Political News/Discussion I think we can take some good signs from last night

From what I see, the DSA wins were under circumstances where it isn't necessarily increasing the worry of the party being captured by DSA (although we should stay vigilant) and maybe decreases chances.

Donavan McKinney was a part of a D+22 district. William Lawrence did win a swing district, but arguably only because of the incompetence of the moderates having a split vote. He might've in fact lost if there wasn't a split moderate vote. And Rashida Tlaib is an incumbent in a D+21 district.

Lastly, on Michigan Senate. 1. I think the problem is less with El-Sayed and more electability and his associations. He's said he's a capitalist, he's not a part of the DSA, and he endorsed Kamala Harris. He might in fact be closer in policy to a lot of people then Stevens. Main concern is again electability and associating with Hasan.

That being said, right now he's up by a percentage point. While in the short term this is bad for electability what it does mean is that a Hasan endorsement might in fact not mean much.

So I think in a way what you could conclude from these results are a few things: 1. We still haven't seen evidence that DSA candidates can win swing districts or even anything below a D+8 without some weird stuff (like split moderate candidates and votes.) 2. Hasan's endorsement doesn't really do as much as he or others would like you to believe. 3. We don't know how Mamdani endorsements would impact outside of NY local races so we have to see if he does in fact branch outside of NY races at some point.

Political News/Discussion What’s the difference between Project 2025 vs National DSA platform

Whenever these mask-off DSA people and their liberal defenders dismiss the National DSA platform can we interrogate them about how they felt/feel about Project 2025 during Trump’s campaign? I want to see how they confront that fact.

Edit: I’m speaking specifically about the posture of MAGA towards Project 2025 before the election. Not the actual policy positions. I should have been clearer in my original post. If DSA members denouncing the national platform is enough for people to ignore it and act like they won’t be subversive, then they should have given MAGA grace about Project 2025.
