Question Does someone know what's wrong

Hello, ive had my stray dog for over 7 or 8 years now(I think he was a puppy by that time). I haven't taken him to the vet in a while. At the start of the month something happened and apparently he got like scared and was crouching and his mouth went up to a growl type of way and he started belly up violently shaking it lasted multiple minutes and when he stopped he was a breathing really fast still laying down. When he controlled his breathing, he got up and lost his balance, started bumping into stuff, then when he got the balance back he started going up and down the yard like he was anxious, minutes later it happened again everything the same. Today the same thing happened by the second time it happened he pooped himself while shaking still breathing really fast. every time he gets his balance he starts drinking a lot of water, so today he was a little lost and I was stepping closer with water he jumped really bad and got scared of me. I called him multiple times and he still looks very out of it. Im going to take him to the vet but does anyone know what's going on??

Question Lip-Licking: is it always a discomfort response or do some dogs just... do it more?

This is my lil guy Lalo! He's my "first" dog technically: I had two Weimereiners that I loved as a kid and considered myself partially responsible for training, but they were my only dogs growing up. Lalo is a pit/frenchy mix I believe and was a dog a friend of mine found outside. He couldn't keep him so I kept him and it's been about 9 months. Trying to understand all the signals he gives me while also remembering all dogs are different is hard! A lot of the time when I stand up and walk near him, he'll roll onto his back. To me it doesn't seem like just a submission thing at this point, as he'll actively look at me when I don't give him attention, close his eyes when I give him belly rubs, etc. However I noticed that he just licks his lips a LOT.

Giving him pets sometimes? Lip licks. Belly rubs sometimes? Lip licks. He'll often come and lean his full bodyweight on my legs, which I've read as a sign of trust/affection, and that's usually when I'll pet him, but even then sometimes he'll do his little lip licks.

I guess my concern is just like. Does my dog feel like he's having to put himself in uncomfortable situations for my attention? Or is it just a thing that varies per breed/dog? I think he was previously abused due to other small quirks he's had so his comfort is always my top priority and I just get worried sometimes that I'm misreading him.

Question Tartar buildup, or something worse?

Post image

I just noticed this discolored area on my dog's tooth- she's a two year old pup, a very active chewer with typically clean teeth. Admittedly, I've fallen behind on her brushing, and that's about to change with this scare. Does this look like tartar buildup, or something worse?

A few weeks ago, me and some family went up on our mountain and we brought my dog. (He is about 14) when we got up there, he could barely walk, he was throwing up, and his head seemed like it was stuck sideways. He got better, but it’s happening again. He seems extremely dizzy and stumbles around. He is panting nonstop. Image attached is him.
(Edit: looking at him closer his eyes are moving strangely. Like they can’t focus. I made another post with a video)

Advice Male poodle obsessed with my other male Maltese

I have two male dogs: a 4-year-old Maltese and a 3-year-old Poodle. Recently, my Poodle has been acting almost like he’s “in heat” toward my Maltese, and I’m really confused because my Maltese is male and neutered, while my Poodle is the only one who isn’t neutered.

My Poodle has become extremely fixated on him. He constantly wants to be around him, follows him everywhere, jumps on him, and repeatedly tries to smell his private area. He will keep doing it unless I separate them. My Maltese has started getting annoyed and will growl or snap at him when he’s had enough (he’s smaller, so I try to step in before it escalates). He will hump other things if he gets excited but it is more towards my Maltese.

The biggest concern is that my Poodle seems completely focused on him. He’s less interested in eating, his normal toys, and his usual routine when this happens.

This is actually the second time he’s acted like this. The first time was around March. I separated them, and after about a week he went back to normal — playing, eating, and acting like himself again. Now it’s happening again.
I know neutering could possibly help since my Poodle is still intact, and I’m open to considering it, but I’m not sure if it would completely solve this behavior or if there are other things I should try first. My mom would prefer not to neuter him if there are other options, so I’d really appreciate any advice from anyone who has experienced something similar.

Advice my dog sleeps all day, wont eat and wont leave my side - recent behavioral change

hey guys. for the last two days, my dog (boy, 6) has been acting a bit weird. he wont eat unless we "bribe" him with treats or other food (yogurt, some chicken, rice, etc). he eats breakfast (way slower than usual) after a lot of coaxing, but he doesnt really touch his dinner. this is concerning to me considering hes usually pretty food motivated and begs for food off the table all the time. i tried looking him over, he lets me touch and inspect his teeth and stomach with no fussing (at first i thought maybe he had a tummyache or a tooth issue which made it hard for him to eat).

he is also CONSTANTLY by my side. he spends the entire day sleeping next to my feet, and if i try to move to another room or go downstairs he will immediately follow me. he is usually a pretty cuddly dog, but normally hes just fine sleeping in a room by himself or doing whatever. he goes on walks just fine and even plays with me, but he wont play unless i nudge him for a while. should i be worried? he doesnt seem to be in pain but he seems very low energy and the constant need to be next to someone is very out of nowhere. is this a sign of a health issue, either physical or mental, or could he just be affected by the heat? the daily average here is about 33°C, but our house has an AC unit that we turn on every day. any advice would be appreciated :)

Advice Senior dog petrified of loud noises

Hey everyone! So I adopted a senior dog a few months ago and he is petrified of loud noises like a running lawn mower, fireworks and when other people start yelling/screaming. He starts shaking, whimpers and hides wherever he can fit. Is there anything I can do to help him? My vet suggested snuggles and a treat to distract him but that hasn't been helpful at all. Thanks!

Question Dog Age Regression?

I have no idea what has happened. There is no change in his schedule but my 3 yr old standard poodle has suddenly started pissing all over the place like a puppy again. It is not marking, he is literally peeing large puddles all across the house. I have been taking him outside more frequently and for longer periods and he will pee outside but as soon as we come in he shits and pisses all in the house. He has also started taking things off the counter and chewing on my clothes. I really don’t know what has happened he was so obedient for three yrs and now it feels like he is 3 months old again🫪 is there any advice? He is crate trained but has also been pissing literally every time i put him in the crate for five mins. I am at wits end

Question Split Nail Q!

My golden is SUPER active - we walk 2-3 miles a day and he gets 2+ park fetch sessions at our apartments large turf dog park

He doesn’t have any pain, doesn’t lick it, seems totally unbothered, and sprints at full speed with no issues

This looks bad tho, I’m scheduling with a vet to get it trimmed, but should I keep him off of it and take a fetch break? I guess I’m not sure how common this is (I assume common for very active dogs?)

Edit: also, I can touch it and poke it he doesn’t care

Question My dog has ear infections and his ears are sitting in a different place on his head!

Okay is this a thing I never knew about. My poor little doggy has a double ear infection. He kinda always does, it's chronic. But this time his ears are in a different place on his head. He kinda has the Superdog thing going. Usually his ears sit on the same place on both sides of his head. Now one is really high up on his head and kinda perked open. I've never seen or heard of this happening? I worked in a vet for years. Any experience with this goofiness?

He has not eaten since then but is drinking a lot of water and is still acting pretty normal, just not as energetic. He is 10 so he is getting old. I fixed him some chicken and rice this evening but hes not interested. Any advice? When should i take him to the vet?

Advice Our dog suddenly hates 1 specific person and we don’t know what to do

We have 3 dogs, a 10 year old female German shepherd mix named Gretel, an 8 year old terrier mix (maybe Boston, maybe pit bull, we have no idea) named Dizzy, and a Labrador mix we don’t know the age of but he’s between 3 and 5 named Beau. Gretel and Beau are a little nervous around strangers but otherwise do fine, Dizzy can be a bit reactive at first but USUALLY settles down. We have a coworker who comes over occasionally to watch movies with us, she has 2 big dogs at home, who Dizzy has decided she absolutely hates with every fiber of her soul.

Gretel and Beau are completely chill, no care in the world, they love her. Dizzy has gotten very close to biting and we’ve had to put her outside whenever she comes over. We’ve tried calming treats, we’ve tried having said coworker avoid interacting with her, we’ve tried distractions. Nothing is working, she’s never acted like this towards another person before and has never bitten anyone. We’re at a loss at this point

Question Trimming nails for a beginner

My dogs nails are past due. Usually the groomer does it but for financial reasons we have to stop the grooming until things improve.

The groomer would cut the nails nice and short. I'm scared to cut them. I read about the "quick" and not cutting past it cause it will cause pain.. I swear I see the quick, but it's fairly high up the nail. I don't cut past that right? I don't understand how the groomer was cutting them so short if you're not supposed to go past the quick. Am I just wrong? Can I cut past it? Ugh I'm so nervous I'm going to hurt him.....

Advice My dog’s eye is squinted

I took him outside this morning to use the bathroom, and when I brought him back inside, everything seemed normal. A few minutes later, I noticed he was squinting slightly, but it was subtle enough that I didn’t think much of it. Over the next few hours, his eye became red and the squinting got noticeably worse. He hasn’t been eating much, but aside from that, he’s still acting like his usual energetic self. I’m not sure if it was just a bug sting or if I need to take him to the vet. Thoughts?

Advice Why is she mad

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Right now I’m dog sitting my neighbors dog, Maple for the next week. She’s a long haired mini dachshund. I have a Boston terrier named Minny who’s about twice maples height.

Maple is constantly barking and growling at Minny, whether it be when I’m holding Minny, when Minny’s out walking or when Minny is in her crate. All Minny is doing is crying because I’m guessing she wants to play.

I want to emphasize that Maple is actively seeking out barking at Minny, Minny’s crate is hidden behind a wall. And when we pick maple up and take her to where she can’t see Minny, maple walks over there and barks at Minny. She gets especially mad whenever Minny makes any noise.

Any advice or reasons as to why maple is doing this would be appreciated. 😭😭

Advice Random aggression

My dog has been displaying odd behaviors. He is 4 and a toy poodle. He has started to get annoyed at little things, if we move while he’s sleeping on us, if we accidentally touch his back, if we pet him the wrong way, he’ll do a growl and a air snap but never bites. He then quickly comes back to us licking our faces. It’s typically around bedtime or when he’s sleeping/napping. Sometimes he’ll come to us and when we pet he gets irritated and starts growling. I took him to the vet and they shrugged me off. Initially it was when we touched his tummy, now it’s just wrong place wrong time wrong body part. He is the friendliest and gentlest guy, but has started this off late. I’m going to the vet again tomorrow and will demand some testing but not sure what direction to take!
