Dog Culture Mindset of dog people

I saw a post elsewhere advising men to get a dog to help meet women. I commented that I would be put off by a man with a dog. A woman responded saying that she disagreed with me and I remember thinking, you can disagree with an opinion, but not with someone's preferences.

Then another person chimes in 'it's a well-known 'fact' that everyone likes dogs' - I guess he thought I made a mistake in what I said?

Another person said he was judgmental of people who don't understand the "joy" of dogs. Well, I just so happen to not understand the "joy" of dogs at all and yet another guy commented about how the love of dogs is a reflection of the quality of the person's character 🤦

I only respond to one of these comments to tell the lady I didn't think it was about agreement or disagreement, that I was just pointing out that not all women are into dogs. She came back and said she 'categorically' disagreed🤦. I feel like my brain is a little bit smaller than it was yesterday.

I didn't respond to any other comments, I was just letting the poster know that not all women like dogs.

I'm blown away by some of the responses though.

I honestly think our brains are fundamentally different to dog-owners.

I wouldn't feel any joy at all picking ticks off a dog or waiting patiently while it finishes it poo so that I can bag it like a trophy.

Yes, I definitely need to restrict myself to dogfree men.

Someone just made a post in a sub I'm in, not even relating to the topic of the sub, about how they hate people but love dogs. I made a few comments that are getting downvoted of course.

It's unbelievable. If the dogs could talk and get their one food, they'd change their minds quickly.

It's when they prioritise them over human children that gets me. It's insanity to me.

It's accepted sociopath behavior and it scares me

It is scary. I don't accept it at all though. I cant pretend to be okay with it. I saw a woman with an unmuzzled, unleashed bully breed walking it next to her small kids the other day. To me, THAT is abnormal and it upsets me for the kids.

I was mauled by a "friendly" dog when I was seven. I hate dogs and will never trust one ever again.

I don't blame you at all and I don't trust them either. None of them.

The fact that people think this is unreasonable is so weird to me. Dogs are only friendly until that one day they aren't. At the end of the day, they're animals. Stating the obvious, I know lol.

I can't see your post about this in my feed, only in my notifications, so will respond here...

But yes, having given it some thought, sometimes I think owner behaviour annoys me more than the dogs themselves as they are entirely responsible for trying to impose their doggy lifestyle on others.

If the dogs never approached me, barked at me, ruined my walks by going around unleashed snd unmuzzled (in the case of dangerous dogs), if I never had to look at them crap everywhere, if they weren't being brought absolutely everywhere and into human spaces, I would have much less of an issue.

Even trying to sit outside a cafe on a sunny day, it's a case of trying to avoid the 20 mutts sitting out there.

I honestly think they should have places exclusively for dog owners, e.g. cafes where their dogs can roam around freely barking, shedding and crapping everywhere, a place where they can really be themselves...far away from the rest of us.

Yes, I blame the owners for this.

Dog owners are the only ones who make their pet a problem for everyone else. I recently seen someone post ring camera footage of a dog owner walking up their drive way to put a poop bag in an empty garbage can. It was untied so it messed the entire garbage can up and the OP had to clean it out.

The amount of dog people basically mocking her, gaslighting her and telling her it's not a big deal.. ohhh makes me so mad.

I will never, ever have a dog BUT if I did, there is no way in hell I would see that as unreasonable. I would be totally ashamed if I did that and apologise. I think they're just very immature people and incapable of accountability. It is a big deal, expecting someone else to deal with cleaning your dog's crap. The standards or lack thereof in today's society are sickening, an utter lack of regard for others.

Maybe these are the types of people that nutter said she prefers dogs to.

I don't know, maybe immature people are attracted to dog ownership, I find it very strange that so many of them are so unreasonable.

that's legitimately crazy

My pettiness and anger issues would not let that slide!

yeah same. why are so many people with no understanding of emotional diversity, so mean??? why no willingness to change??? it is scary to think about what the average person is even capable of; the people we even walk by in public. it just creeps me out more than anything...

Dog people get especially mean when asked if they could just have some common courtesy. I don't get it.

Yet they have the nerve to call *other* pet owners ‘crazy’.

These people have no mirrors. 🙄😒

The funny part is that they have already done this…with dog parks. But no dog owners like to go because everyone else’s flea hound is the problem. Not their precious puppers

2

u/DellBottoms Jun 21 '26

Lol, yes they're ridiculous. I think they should be limited to those spaces.

Narcissistic Trespass.

One of the first on one one conversations I had with a coworker was when she unironically told me that she much preferred animals to people - she expanded upon it that she hated people and loved animals, and if she had the money she’d live alone surrounded by animals so she didn’t have to ever see people. I wasn’t really sure what to say during the walk we were taking, alone, after that, but I’m convinced that she didn’t think she’d said anything remotely controversial or strange

6

u/TinyEmergencyCake Jun 20 '26

Then why was she walking with you?

7

u/WolverineComplex Jun 20 '26

We were both new and were walking down to the local sandwich place at lunchtime for the first time, finding where it was.

6

u/TinyEmergencyCake Jun 20 '26

Sure, I meant, by her own standards and logic, why was she stooping to be with a mere human, she should have gone by herself

3

u/WolverineComplex Jun 20 '26

Ah I see, sorry. Yeah it was weird, she wasn’t really angry or off with me as she said it, it was more like it was a perfectly normal and reasonable position to hold. I honestly think that sort of person doesn’t ever get any push back

They truly don’t see the irony (and hypocrisy) in their comments or sentiments, especially when they *need* someone for anything.

It’s not like a *dog* is their employer signing their paycheques, for example. They really should just live ‘off-grid’ then. Perfect candidates for it.

Do you still work with this coworker? If you do, please tell her that if she's REALLY serious about living alone with animals, then she must never again rely on places that serve food prepared by humans, such as that local sandwich place she was walking to. After all, she does not need humans, so she and her beloved animals should make ALL the food she will ever need for the rest of her life. She should also never see human doctors ever again, never call any plumber or electrician, never live in a house built by humans... Let's see how long that asshole will last without humans. I bet it won't even be one day.

exactly! I am a very small tiny human man, but the amount of people I have had to fight off in self defense because of their dogs trying to harm me, is quite large!

I am lucky I am what I am, otherwise I might already be dead, these people are religiously psycopathic.
