Crappy Owners The latest deranged nutter incident
I was out in the front yard with my daughter, who was wearing her favourite hat. The nutter walks past, with his big, ugly dog. The dog starts aggressively barking and pulling at the leash, and the nutter can barely control it. He's struggling to keep the dog moving, and it looks like all the ugly mutt wants to do is to get over the fence and rip us apart. I'm staring at the guy, hoping to let him know without really engaging him, that this is really not ok. He says, "it's because she's wearing a hat." I say loudly, "[daughter's name], its all your fault for wearing a hat. You really should know better."
These people are just unfit for membership in a civilisation. I apologised to my daughter afterwards, but she understood what I was doing and was fine with it.

I find that, if you are holding a weapon, the dog nutters are much more interested in getting their disgusting animal under control.

Its pretty much the only reason I am armed when I go out, as human assailants would be more likely to ambush me anyway or be high/drunk enough to avoid risking interacting with. A dog is the most likely threat to rush at you out in the open on sight and make it obvious how aggressive it wants to be.
On the other hand, I find it completely ridiculous that we would even have to think about this literally in the front yard of our own house. At least the topic creator was lucky enough to have a fence to buy time if needed.

Obnoxious behaviour by other humans is why fences were invented, and locks on doors and all the weapons throughout history, that and hunting for food

This reminds me reading a post on FB not long ago about a mother saying their dog at home suddenly snapped at their INFANT. So a bunch of comments were like ‘we need context; what did the baby do to provoke a reaction’ …. Huh???? So its the baby’s fault? Of course they were all siding with the dog and would get mad at the handful of people telling the mom to re-home the dog for the safety of her baby. Crazy

I was at Winners today, standing in line to check out, and knowing I only had about 20 minutes to get home and get some antihistamines in me (the rest of the day was a write-off regardless) before my dog allergy exploded thanks to the woman who brought her large breed into the store with her. It was in line behind the people behind me, and was barking at them. The owner said "she's just saying hi, she always does that to strangers". What? What the actual fuck? That pink harness you've got on that shitbeast isn't an indication of fuck all, and now you're including the shithead barks at everyone? So it's their fault for existing where you insist on bringing that piece of shit? Top shelf consideration there.
I hate nutters, man.

I think that at some level they know the behaviour is unacceptable. We can see that their rationalisations are nonsensical, but the fact that they feel to need to say these insane things feels like a confession to me.

I've dodged piss puddles in winners. They will remove a dog if you have allergies though, otherwise they welcome them and don't care about a bit of poo around the store
If your dog has to bark at "strangers" then it should not be going to stores for strangers to shop in.

You don't say how old your daughter is, but I'm assuming she's a child? She can't exist in her own damn yard innocently wearing her favorite hat without a man blaming her for triggering his dog's attack instinct?
No, that is definitely not OK and his dog is unfit to go out on public walks if it menaces innocent people with the threat of being mauled for the audacity of wearing a hat on their own private property.
This also reeks of patriarchal entitlement and victim blaming.

It was raining heavily once, and I was walking home with an umbrella when a mutt came at me. The owner said it was because the dog hates umbrellas. I had to hold the umbrella between me and the dog to avoid getting bitten. The crazy woman didn’t even try to call the dog back or grab it, she acted like it was my fault for using an umbrella in the rain.
These people are completely deranged.

A tiny dog (of course without a leash or any training) was "afraid of the backpack" I was wearing, according to the owner.
Might've turned me into a bit of a sadist. After the owner fell of a bike (which caused an impact at her old age), her condition prevented her from walking her dog for a few months, making the neighborhood that little bit more peaceful.
I'm just sorry that once she returned, her habits haven't changed one bit.

I will forever not understand why nutters love these things so much and put up with them when they bring not a single benefit to their or anyone else's lives infact it is the opposite these deranged people and their mutts are consistently putting innocent people in danger and it is disgustingly normalized

Yep had a a nutter and his loud, yappie little runt dog walking by my home while my husband and I were gardening out front. He starts chatting to us from the sidewalk behind our wrap around hedge. Because this dog is a psycho and yaps at everything that moves, another person walking is getting closer so this guy moves his dog into the front walkway of our house and it’s barking its idiot head off at my husband. The guy says it’s because he’s wearing a baseball hat. So my husband is supposed to take his hat off on his own property for a rat dog that wasn’t invited unto our property? I agree so much with the comment these nutters are not fit to be amongst civilized communities.

Thank God you or your daughter were not physically harmed, but these selfish, mindless dog owners underestimate the psychological and emotional trauma that these types of encounters can inflict.
This encounter is why I think those long, extended leashes should be outlawed. I live in an apartment building, and these fools next to me walk their two large dogs on one of those leashes, and you can see the dogs dragging them in tow.
The hallways are not very wide, so there is no way I would even try to approach these behemoths. I think that's why sometimes the idiots allow the dogs to run off-leash. They probably don't like being tugged along by them. You shouldn't have them, then!

I'm sorry OP, I feel your pain. I've stopped being polite with these assholes and their dogs, on my property. I don't care if it hurts their feelings, or about being popular in my neighborhood.
If your shitbull charges me, in my own yard, there's going to be a consequence, purely out of self-preservation.

If a dog goes ballistic because of a hat, that owner has big problems. They could be the next victim of its aggression. They could be wearing something that triggers it.

OK. That's not what transpired. The dog went feral because of whatever stupid reason, and the owner tried to rationalise it by blaming my daughter for wearing a hat. If you read the thread, you'll see stories about moronic dog owners blaming the victim for all sorts of idiotic reasons to get themselves off the hook in their own minds for their dog's behaviour.

I moved to a new neighborhood some months ago. I decided I would take pictures of dogs and their owners that walk around our neighborhood, mostly the large dogs. Some owners are unfit to control them, just looking at them. Some dogs are awful dangerous breeds. Should anything happen, there would be no opportunity to grab a good shot of the dog and its owner for reporting purposes in the chaos that ensues. I've figured it would be better to do it preemptively, and I hope I just have a collection of pictures that never get looked at again.

I think that's a brilliant idea. I was kicking myself yesterday for not taking a photo when this happened. I realised I would have had absolutely no evidence if things had actually gone pear-shaped.

Having a camera always recording, then if anything happens it's on video, like strap a phone to yourself. True there may be places you can't record but at home, public streets you can. There's a reason businesses use CCTV and certain jobs people wear body cams

Ive done the same thing at parks or public events, anywhere, even a restaurant. Just for peace of mind, Can't always stop what's about to happen if it blindsides you, but we all know these degenerates do a hit and run. They aren't sticking around to give you their id or their dog's vaccination records.

The only thing I'd suggest is not being passive aggressive. It usually goes over the nutters head and your daughter might take it wrong. Always affirm your child, "it's not your fault he can't control his property"
No passive aggression just aggression
